Reading Matthew 4:1 ..So Jesus was led by the Spirit( of God??) to be tempted by the devil .But then why would He (Jesus) then in Matthew 6:13 in teaching us to pray say” …lead us not into temptation…”

The point is, God doesn’t lead us into temptation and doesn’t let the devil tempt us more than we can resist

When the life is led by the spirit of God, not a temptation no matter how big can overcome the soul. The Lord is near to deliver the soul from the snare of the tempter.

In this passage the it’s very obvious that the Spirit only led Jesus to wilderness to be tempted by the devil to prove that he is the promise Messiah and obdient servant, who will not disobey God.
These prohecies were primarily written in the book of Isaiah. On the other hand, the tempation in the book of James is from the devil. God will never temp Christians for he convicts us before we make a choice especially when attemp to commit scence. -
I think it also allowed our Savior to know, as a man, the temptations of man to be our Perfect Comforter.
“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

Jesus never fell into temptation no matter how often He was tempted. We all to often do fall into temptation, so it’s better for us to avoid temptation whenever possible.

We should pray, “lead us not into temptation”, because we have the potential to sin. Jesus didn’t.
The Spirit led Jesus out to be tempted specifically BECAUSE Jesus can’t sin. It was a proof for us that he is God in the flesh.

It seems to me that we are asking God, or at least I am, that he bring us to him or to his work for him that does not take us into areas where our flesh is so very weak.
A saved man who had a past with prostitutes, for example, probably should not be working in a ministry that works in bringing women out of prostitution. too much temptation there.
