RESURRECTION HOPE: Although the resurrection of Christ secures the resurrection of his people, the two events are not contemporaneous. Christ rose first; his people are to rise when he comes the second time. Questions: Does the New Teastament ever say that Christians have “died”? Or does it always use “fell asleep”?
If so, do they merely just fall asleep? Or do they go directly to heaven?

The key word is “death.” For the believer death isn’t final. If this earthly house be dissolved we have another house not made with hands. The disciples thought Jesus meant Lazarus was actually sleeping in verse 12. Then, in verse 14, Jesus speaks plainly and tells them that “Lazarus has died.” This is to be clear that Lazarus has died in the flesh, and is not sleeping or unconscious. Thus, before Christ went to the Cross he had power over death…
