Rule #60: Be boringly consistent

“Consistency is the belt that fastens excellence in position. If you don’t do it repeatedly, you’ll not excel in it.”

Leadership is not sexy.

Leadership is seldom glamours, exciting, or adventurous.

Leadership is mostly about being boringly consistent.

If it is a regular occurrence that people are waiting to see what you will do or how you will react, that is a bad thing.

They ought to know how you will react and what you will do under most circumstances.

Most leaders see themselves as change-agents when in reality that is only a very small part of what they do.  Their main responsibility is to faithfully guide the people under their care through the day-in and day-out grind of life.

People have enough thrown at them already.  They do not need a leader who is unstable or uncertain.  They need a boringly consistent leader who is unwaveringly there for them.

The ONE THING for today: Shields go up quickly and people start heading for the doors when a loose cannon shows up. But a boringly consistent, principle-led leader of integrity…that’s the kind of leader people will gravitate to.
