Back in the day I wrote a daily devotional that was included in church bulletin. I wrote Monday – Friday and then Sonja would wrap up the week with a devotional on Saturday. We called it: “Sonja Gets the Last Word.”

A couple days ago she read to me her reflections from watching this video; we both got a good laugh from it. I’ve re-posted the blog and included Sonja’s “last word”. See her reflections and a link to the video below…

Here’s praying you have a great day of mostly sitting on your hands.

I just watched a video blog my husband David posted in October of last year entitled, “Sit on Your Hands.” It was a very informative video encouraging the practice of waiting on things to work themselves out (if possible) instead of stirring the pot. He mentioned two of the things that often drive us to “stir the pot.” Things like FOMO (fear of missing out) and his newly minted acronym, FOP (fear of pain.)

As I pondered his message, I wondered if either of these fears had ever caused me to do something I later regretted. The one thing that came to mind occurred during the  2nd Women’s Ministry Conference I planned as WM Director of Illinois Church of God.

I got bitten by the FOMO bug regarding the meal that would be a part of the conference. I kept hearing about other states using Food Trucks instead of hosting a meal and I didn’t want my ladies to miss out on this wonderful trend. (Wink, wink)

Although we had some questions, the Women’s Ministry Board and I decided to go for it.

Perhaps it would have succeeded if the conference had not gone an hour longer than the scheduled time for dismissal. (Pentecostals!! 😊)

Maybe it would have been embraced if many of the women attending had not had a  long-standing tradition of going to “their” special restaurant together every year on the way back to their respective homes.

Did the high prices charged for the food make a value meal at a fast-food joint more appealing? Who knows?

All I know is that the #1 complaint written on the event response sheet was, “we didn’t have a taco bar this year.”  (Sigh!!)

I should have kicked FOMO to the curb and embraced my newly minted acronym, LWEA (Leave Well Enough Alone.)
