Suicide is an “unforgivable sin.” That people who kill themselves won’t get into heaven. Is that true?

Would you be able to repent of it?
-
Not true!

If the suicide attempt was unsuccessful, they could repent of that sin. However, if they manage to kill themselves, they’ve already passed on. However again lol, if they miraculously come back from the natural death, they have been given another chance.
-
Hebrews 11 lists heroes of the faith, including Samson, who committed suicide in the process of killing the Philistines. Judges 16

I can not find that in Scripture. The only “unforgivable sin” is making the things of God evil and the things of Satan good. We don’t know what causes a person to make that choice. That’s between them and God. We can only watch for signs and try to support them and get them help. Praying constantly for them. Above love on them.
-
No. There only one unforgivable sin, and it isn’t suicide. One may ask if someone who has truly put their faith in Jesus would do such a thing, but it is not any more unforgivable than any other sin.
-
If one does it in the right mind and willfully then yes doomed forever. The question is if the person was in the right state of mind at the time of suicide. The next question what about those who elect euthanasia?

No

I don’t believe that at all. In order for that to be true we’d be saying we’re strong enough to remove ourselves from the strongest hands in existence, therefore we are stronger than God. That is illogical and unbiblical. So suicide must not be strong enough to destroy our salvation.
Don’t take this as permission to die though. If you’re asking because you’re looking for permission, please don’t. You have a life to live that was gifted to you by God. Don’t get rid of it, please.
-
Who has the authority to decide whether to go to heaven or not? Are we God or Judge?
-
There is only one unforgivable sin, rejection of the Holy Spirit. If you have salvation, you always have salvation. No sin can keep you from Christ.
With that being said, im sure suicide will dramatically influence your reward at the judgment seat of Christ.
-
No, unless of course they are unbelievers when they commit suicide, otherwise they’re safe if they remain believers
-
Where do you get that? Got a Bible verse to support that view?
-
While life is still in the body, and the soul repents of what they have done …. God only knows for sure.
-
You did not give life to yourself. God gave you life therefore you have no right to end it or take your own life. Knowingly and willingly planning to take a life is an act of murder. Thou shall not commit murder!
-
so Judas would go to heaven? judas did have a broken heart
-
Most who do so are not in their rational minds, so I don’t think we can say for sure.
-
For Mental Issues only God can judge
-
Only God knows.
But suicide is disobedience. ‘Do not kill’ does apply to ourselves too. Also, suicide might hinder God’s plan. Who knows, your purpose is to lead a thousand people to Christ and you end your life. Thats double the cost. And everyone of us has its own God’s purpose.

““I tell you the truth, everyone who acknowledges me publicly here on earth, the Son of Man will also acknowledge in the presence of God’s angels. But anyone who denies me here on earth will be denied before God’s angels. Anyone who speaks against the Son of Man can be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.”

Not at all. They think its unforgivable because you have no time to repent from it but that is completely legalistic
-
God knows the hearts of them. I hope so.

I sure hope so.

To the OP: no. Final un repentance is

No, praise God…

Bible doesnt speak about suicide, most are not in their right mind when they do it, It is a selfish act to those who love the person. Some day we will know. Till then we trust in His word…Romans 9:15 .For he says to Moses, “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.”
-
When you get saved you’re forgiven of all sin (past, present, and future sins, (Matthew 18:21-22)). That’s not saying that you have a special license to keep on sinning just because you are forgiven, God already acknowledges that we will inevitably still keep sinning in some ways hile we are being sanctified. After all, “being sanctified” is another way of saying “you’re in the process of being sanctified” which implies that you’re continuing to grow and mature in a state of stumbling. The Bible gives no hints of a believer being doomed for hell if he dies in sin, which includes suicide. The only sin that is unforgiven is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit (Matthew 12:31-32) which in our days is the continued unbelief of God. When you die as an unbeliever you miss your chance to ever be forgiven and your fate to eternal hell would be sealed.
-
I believe it depends on the circumstances, and I would think God would take into account your heart and your reasoning say if you intentionally ment to take your life or not. God is a forgiving God but this life you have, has been paid for by a price. So it’s not yours to take. Period
-
It would be foolish if you take ur own life..Eccl 7:17
-
There is no greater love than a man lay down his life for another. Isn’t that also a form of suicide? Does the soldier who dives on a grenade to save his comrades go to hell?
-
Do not take your or anybody’s life , it’s not ours, life is given by God so it is His property….
For we have been created and only the Creator has the right to take it back… -
Blaspheme of the Holy Spirit is the only unpardonable sin. Having said that, God doesn’t wink at murder, so self murder doesn’t honor God. I watched the Ravi Zacharis video, it was well said.
-
Nowhere in the bible does it say suicide is unforgiveable… I believe that there will be many brothers and sisters in heaven who have committed suicide. Christ didn’t just die for our past sins but he also died for our future sins as s well and when God looks at us he sees the righteousness of Christ
-
No.
-
Hard to say….Suicide is the ultimate act of selfishness. It is an act that denies God the ability to work in your life and transform you into the person He wants you to be. When you commit suicide you are telling God that you know best….On the other hand there are always those outlier situations that might be brought up that are questionable and only are answerable by God.
-
No sin is really forgivable. All sin is mortal. Jesus died to take the place for your being judged for your sins.
-
we cannot classified suicide as an unforgivable sin. the unforgivable sin is a blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 12:30-32).., for further info, when a person is God’s chosen, suicide will not affect or remove his salvation from him…., Saul was appointed king of Israel and he served God for a long time. until the was failed to do exactly what God commanded him to execute ( Amalakites) so for this reason,God anger burning against him and God removed him from being a king of Israel. and He chose David as the replacement. from that time on the Spirit of God left Saul, this time Prophet Samuel was already dead. that time no Prophet could help him to connect him to God as before, so Saul consult to the medium in order to talk Samuel to hear the message of God for him. and this is the word of samuel for Saul 1 Samuel 28:18 V.18 Because you did not obey the Lord or carry out his fierce wrath against the Amalekites, the Lord has done this to you today. V.19 The Lord will deliver both Israel and you into the hands of the Philistines, and tomorrow you and your sons will be with me. The Lord will also give the army of Israel into the hands of the Philistines.”
After this communication, Saul left to fight the enemy of Israel, unfortunately the Israel lost their fight and Jonathan his son was killed and Saul killed himself by SUICIDE, he fell to his own sword (1 Samuel 31-4). Now how could i say that Saul is not destined to die in hell? in verse 19 Samuel said to Saul; TOMORROW YOU AND YOUR SONS WILL BE WITH ME. if samuel is in hades saul and sons also is in hades. if He is in Heaven Saul with his Sons also in Heaven. -
No, that is a Roman Catholic view
-
Only God can and will decide what sin is, what forgiveness is or is not, and who will enter Paradise. Please stop saying Heaven. Eternity will be spent in the presence of YHVH, Yeshua, and Holy Spirit in the New Jerusalem on the New Earth.

-
No I’m not sure where that belief comes from.
-
There’s only one sin that can’t be forgiven..
-
do you go to hell for being sick, no, and people that commit suicide have a mental illness
-
I don’t think God would deny them eternity, ask Pastor Rick Warren whose son Matt committed suicide where he thinks his son is … heaven
-
I think the most honest answer is – “We don’t know for sure.” But I would not want to meet my Lord and have to explain why I took a life which I had decided was not my own, but His. A life He gave up His own for to save me from everlasting destruction.
The real issue that I see with suicide, and this comes from someone who has in the past contemplated it, is that it is the supreme act of self centeredness, and that it never truly stops the pain. It only hands it to someone else. Primarily those who care most for you.
-
Completely unfounded in Scripture. A fully false doctrine that is foreign to scripture…..
-
We don’t know their heart. God is gracious.
-
By that logic….then murdering another human being would also be denying the Holy Spirit in them and also unforgivable. That is absolutely false teaching, folks. It’s made up, wholecloth. That is not what the Bible is talking about in denying the Spirit. Murder is covered by the blood of Christ for those who REPENT and believe, just as every other committable act, must definitely including suicide. Suicide being unforgivable is medieval, unbiblical, mythological, and Roman Catholic. It carries as much biblical weight as Mary being co-Redeemer with Jesus, her bodily assumption into heaven, named the Queen of Heaven, lived a sinless life, remained a virgin forever…. purgatory, confessing sin to priests, and suicide is unforgivable….ALL are completely, utterly, wholly, totally, fully unbiblical and foreign to the canon of Scripture….
-
I don’t think it’s unforgivable.
-
Judas committed suicide and he went to hades instead of asking forgiveness to Christ.
Anyone thinking you can still go to Heaven and commit suicide is wrong.
-
Of course it is NOT true.
-
I can’t find that suicide is the unforgivable sin in the Bible. Hebrews 6:6 says those who fall away are crucifing Christ again is. What does that mean?
-
if he is a christian.. surely he will go to heaven
-
Not true. God knows every person’s heart and circumstances. Some people simply can not cope with the way the world works. God will be the final judge for them based on their belief and life. Not by their last action. This notion of suicide being a one-way ticket to Hell, is based on the catholic practice, of you are guilty until you paid the priest to forgive your sins. We that worship Jesus, knows that He alone has the power to forgive sins, and He is not bound by time.
-
Just gunna ask a question. If you comment suicide are you truly save? Because your hope is not in Jesus it would be in man or yourself.
-
Look at the newest evidence of the scriptures, stop being stuck in a model of reality that is 2000 years old.
‘heaven’ is within and all around the truth is bigger than the Semitic or medieval authorities could have imagined, look at quantum theory, research on NDE’s and entheogens the truth is out there readily available.
-
It’s similar to what these suicide bombers believe in. As a Christian I’ve always wondered about that first realisation they experience the moment they pass over.
-
No. It’s not true.
-
Yes! Go straight to Hell!
-
Yes people who commit suicide can go to heaven. If they have accepted Jesus and repentant of sin.
-
Well you’ve murdered without repenting so yea
-
We get to Heaven because of our faith in Jesus Christ. All our sins are forgiven the moment we accept Him as Lord and Savior. Past, present, and future. If a person is a believer they will go to Heaven. The idea of suicide as the unforgivable sin is a Catholic belief not a biblical one.
-
For those who are saying they go to Hell, I’m wondering what if you say the same of children who commit suicide??
-
The Bible says there is one unforgivable sin and that is to reject the Holy Spirit. Murder can be forgiven. Many prisoners convicted of such a heinous crime get saved behind bars! And suicide is self-murder. Now, is it right? No, because it means that your struggle is your own and not carried by Christ. And yet every circumstance is known by God. He never shuts the door to Heaven, man does in rejecting His call.
-
Not sure. Scripture in this area is not solid. I would say God is going look at it depending upon your whether you really are sick in the head or really aware what you are actually doing.
-
It is always an ethical dilemma, the greatest gift that God gave is life and by giving it, God is the only one empowered to take it (huge difference between kill and murder, God doesn t murder as God is the one who gives life), on a Scriptural level we can see this in Deuteronomy as God puts forth the decision of life and death, giving the right (Godly) answer as to “chose life so you can live”
-
I think brothers it is very wrong to say that suicide take them to the hell because you don’t know what level of sorrow and pain they tolerated it can be difficult to say that they go to heaven but it is impossible to say that they go to hell they didn’t kill any one didnt reject Christ till the end but remain faithful but finish with themselves how can God be cruel that let people suffer a lot in world and after that hell ………. ??? Why ??? Plz don’t say this we can’t imagine there difficulties and Gods mercy ……. If Remained with Christ can be forgiven ..
-
No
-
I believe Yes. It is only Catholics who now tend to disagree based on the writings of a Saint. If the last thing you ever do is a major sin, you can’t repent.
-
If you notice that everyone saying yes doesn’t have a verse to back it up.
-
HOPE : in God there is Hope then if a person does have God then why he wants to end his life suicide is an act of a hopeless person then hopeless person does not believe in God
-
YES. It is only God that has power to take life.
-
I think God waits patiently to hold us. I think he grieves when we grieve. He mourns and cries when we cry.
-
It is our job to carry the light into the darkness. Every suicide falls at our doorstep. We need to reach out to those we love. Show love. Give love. Shine your light into the dark.
-
Reach out to those who think that you dont love them. And especially reach out to those you dont even know. GROW YOUR LOVE BOX
-
It is not true. As a believer Jesus covered all sins, past, present, and future. A person who would commit suicide is obviously not in a stable frame of mind. If they are an unbeliever they go to Hell not because of the suicide but because they reject Christ.
https://www.desiringgod.org/interviews/do-i-need-to-repent-if-christ-died-for-all-my-sins -
I’ve heard people say a murderer cant go to Heaven, and suicide is murder. So I guess Paul, Moses, Samson, and David who the Bible says was a man after Gods own heart didn’t make it.
-
No it is not true….the Bible doesn’t speak to this issue directly….however because we are the Temple of the Holy Spirit, we are to take care of our own person and cherish our life….
-
Nope. The only unforgivable sin is blasphemy against the holy Spirit
-
No
-
Only God knows. Everything He wants us to know is in the Bible. If its not there , trust His reason. Let’s get out there and be a light for those people ✨ in depression, well all people, period. My mother committed suicide and posts like these are kinda awful because I know my mother was not a Christian. Let’s be a light for others that feel hopeless and alone, and do for them what Christ has done for us!
-
No, that is not true. Yes its true that it is a sin as all murder is.
-
No, suicide does not prevent you from going to be with Jesus for eternity. Dieing without accepting Jesus and His sacrifice for our sins is what sends people to Hell.
-
Blaspheming the Holy Spirit is the only unforgiveable sin. There is no Scripture that says that murder even of oneself is unforgiveable. However, courage to keep going against all odds can be found in true fellowship with God.
-
You are in WAR. The enemy has surrounded you….you have information which , if divulged…will cost thousands of lives. You know they will torture you and your family….you decide to take the cyanide . HELL???
-
No if you are born again you are sealed. suicide can’t take that away. The only unforgivable sin that I heard of is blaspheming against the holy spirit. Change my mind with scripture
