John 1:4 | NIV | In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.

Jesus brings into our lives life, light, grace, and truth.
In Jesus is eternal, abundant life. Jesus told the woman at the well that rivers of living water would flow from within her.
When Lazarus dies, Jesus tells Martha, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; whoever lives by believing in me will never die” (John 11:25, 26 | NIV).
In 2 Kings, Naaman, the commander of the army of the king of Aram contracts leprosy (which to him would be an almost absolute death sentence). Back home, his Jewish servant girl persuades him to go to the prophet Elisha. Elisha tells him to wash seven times in the Jordan, but Naaman becomes angry at the simplicity of his instructions. Eventually, however, he goes, obeys, and is healed.
I know we’ve been cleansed, totally, by grace through faith. But, I see, in this story, a parallel to our journey with Jesus: I keep on dipping in the Jordan, and life overtakes death in me because in Him is life, and life to the full.
He is the light of the world, and He has overtaken the darkness! The “powers” of evil, of sin, and of death, actually have no power, because Jesus has conquered them all.
The Psalmist wrote that God’s Word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. Jesus illuminates our journey, step by step, not as a spotlight, but as a lamp that leads the way. It’s the light, the Word made flesh, God with us, that walks us step by step on our journey home.
