The scriptures tells us in Psa 14:1 “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good.”

As Christians we sometimes call unbelievers “fools” in our dialog with them. Though that is an accurate description of them, I find I must continually examine myself to make sure I don’t use this verse as a way to insult and mock them “using the scriptures.”

I’ve personally said it before knowing I served it up with a little insult icing on top!

What are some of the ways you explain they are fools biblically speaking without intending to be and coming across as insulting?

?Hummmm. Tough one! Some people would be offended, some not. My sister often says “you fool” when someone does something silly-she doesn’t see anything wrong with that but I find it rude and offensive. I think one of the ways-if you needed to use that term, would be to say “in the bible it says…”. If the person takes offence at you calling them a fool, you could explain that it is the word of God and that it’s pointing out a lack of wisdom/discernment or whatever. I personally wouldn’t be in the habit of using that term- just my opinion though.

Well said John. I wholeheartedly agree. We need to be careful that we’re not throwing out insults … rather we should be posting good responses where we can.

Effective evangelism is about explaining the blessings of following God, not detailing the negative consequences of rejecting Him.

Atheists utterly reject bible quotes. So they won’t believe you when you call them fools.
Nearly all of them are agnostic atheists and therefore stop short of denying the existence of God. Furthermore they claim the “devine” right to the burden of proof for the existence of God. How to address that is key. Then they are all ears.

Truth is not an insult, like you said we are the ones who make it in to one
