The Unfailing Cross

“Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me.” - Psalm 23:4

As you know, tomorrow is the 11th Anniversary of when the twin towers were brought down. What a memorable moment in the history of America. Earlier today, I watched a documentary on 9-11-2001 shown on TBN. What a powerful message that came from God through the twin towers.

In your opinion, what do you think one of the biggest points God was trying to show His people through all of this? His sovereignty? His grace? His mercy? Is it that God wants unity in America again? It could be anything. I think what God was trying to tell His people is this: the cross never fails. Oh, the wonderful cross! How it saved a wretch like me! How it changed me! How it brought me to my knees to repentance! Oh, the wonderful cross! There have been beautiful hymns written from the beginning of time even until now, about how wonderful, glorious, holy, outstanding, and merciful the cross is.

On 9-11-2001, America was hit with possibly the biggest attack it has ever faced. Men and women rushed to the scene to help firefighters and policemen. Pastors went immediately to the scene to pray for the people and help dig in all the mess. Stores opened up at all times of the night to help the firefighters and policemen with any supplies that they needed. Firefighters were required to change their boots every three hours because of all the chemicals. I see God’s people coming together, yes! I also see something else. A chaplain was on TV telling his story and said they his church had put on a “Encourage America” service. As the service began, a man approached the chaplain that was sitting in the front row of the service and said, “there is someone in the lobby that wants to speak with you.” As the chaplain entered into the lobby, there was a firefighter laying on the ground weeping. They started praying for the firefighter, then, one by one, all these firefighters started to join them in crying and in prayer to God and the chaplain said this: “At that moment, we began to start asking God where He was.” Searching for God, to others, is something that is hard to do. You can’t see God physically. It’s tough to understand at times. Three days had past. It is now 9-13-2001 and the firefighters and policeman all stop one morning. As they scattered through all of the debris, they said it looked something like a cathedral. It looked like there were chairs all made out of metal…and what they saw next would become a monumental piece that is still standing in NYC today. They saw this…….

People that day saw hope. They saw four crosses in the middle of the debris. How amazing is that! Men and women described the crosses found in the debris as this: “the crosses looked like they have been beaten…one cross even had a huge piece of metal on it that resembled a sash on the cross.” It was a sign of grace from God to His people.

There is redemption for all who go to the cross. Even though He warns us about hard times, you be reassured that God is there…even through all of the debris…the cross will ever stay strong. Even in the middle of your hurt and your pains, the cross will forever stand. In the midst of your attacks and circumstances, there will be something…someone….the One…who will ever be constant in your life. In the midst of every storm, God wants us to dig deep down and find the cross that is inside of us that will forever be our rock. He is Lord. He is Holy. He is the rock. He is your Cornerstone. He is your hope. He is your peace. He is your salvation who made the unfailing cross.
