What are you waiting for?

Sunset and evening star, and one clear call for me! __From “Crossing the Bar”, Alfred, Lord Tennyson

*****

We need people in our lives who will bravely ask us, “When exactly are you expecting this to happen?” and then demand an answer from us.

For you see, risk and time are closely related.

But we don’t like risk, it makes us feel uneasy and uncertain. Risk is…well, risky!

So what do we do to insulate ourselves from the uncertainty and unease of risk? A common method is to keep pushing into the future the actual delivery date of our goals, dreams, and responsibilities.

Someday” is the safe answer.

We jazz it up with bold plans and potential exciting outcomes…but all the time, the clock is ticking, the window of opportunity is closing, and the curtains of life are slowing and implacably being drawn.

Isn’t it an irony?

Our postponing of the risk that come with any worthy endeavor ends up increasing the risk that it will never happen, for as a wise mentor once told me, The opportunity of a lifetime does not last for a lifetime.

The ONE THING for today: There is a “do it now” in every day and to postpone it is to erode away a little more of the future you are hoping and praying for.
