Fulfillment of prophecy, it was the beginning of His ministry (you must understand the significance of baptism to Jews at the time), and as an example of obedience.

It was His way of identifying with sinful humanity. Back in Biblical times, baptism was an outward manifestation of repentance.

The answer has been given, but not explained. ‘To fulfill all righteousness.’ When the religious leaders asked Jesus where His authority came from He asked whether John’s baptism came from God or man. They were trapped on the horns of a dilemma but the answer to Jesus question was the answer to theirs. Jesus had authority because He submitted to John’s baptism as John was the last of the line of the OT Prophets and Jesus authority came from obeying His Father. What did the Father say when Jesus submitted to baptism? ‘This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.’

Jesus was baptised to be our example, He was the Son of God before He was baptised, and people have to become children of God before they can be baptised.

Crazy how he got baptized yet people don’t want to huh. Just saying. Follow his ways, imitate him, and have the same mindset as Christ Jesus God tells us and yet we out here not wanting to do it you know. Why is it so hard ?

He is our example. If he would have not been baptized we’d all be arguing over that too. ?♂️

This is what Jesus means to baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Matthew:3.15
Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented.

As soon as Jesus was baptized, he went up out of the water. At that moment heaven was opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting on him.

Mathew 3:16:

Jesus was a descendent of the kings line as we find in the lineage in Mathew. But to be a of the priest hood he had to follow exodus 29. Part of that was to wash them with water by a priest. John the Baptist father Zechariah was a priest of the line of Aaron which means John was a priest of Aarons line. So John baptised Jesus to pass on the priesthood to him so he could be of the line of Malchezadek(king/highpriest). Fullfillment of psalms 110

The sonship of OT Israel was shadow of the sonship we have in Christ. WIth Israel having a way out (exodos) through Red Sea with Moses Jesus is the Way (hodos) who makes it a point to “fulfill all righteousness” as he told John the Baptist. He is the new covenant for those who believe and receive by faith.
