Would love some help please! Having my 5th study with these Jehovah’s witnesses today and we are FINALLY going to talk about Christ on their terms! Would really appreciate some input with some of your favorite scriptures to bring them to see who Jesus really is.

So far I have felt like I’ve been talking about Jesus so much to them, but he’s not a topic of study until chapter 4 of their book so they have always just changed the subject back to Jehovah’s name, Paradise Earth, etc… We finally get to get into who Jesus is and although I have a notebook full of scriptures to point out, I’d love some input!
For those who don’t know, they believe Jesus is Michael the archangel, not God, a created being, only resurrected in a spiritual body… They do need help and I have to try!
Thank you all ?

Begin with the Gospel of John. Jesus is the Word. Jesus is love. Jesus is Messiah. Jesus is God. John says Who Jesus IS.

  2. Larry Koester says:

Jesus’ divinity is an important topic throughout Johns’s gospel. The dangers of thinking we can be good apart form Christ’s gift of righteousness throughout Romans.

    John 8:58

  4. Sydwell Parton Mthombeni says:

Linda Macdonald is right. The book of John is a great tool to start. It describes the deity of Christ more plainly. Even Col. 1:15-21 is a good place to focus on who Christ is.

  5. Dale Crockett says:

In Genesis 1.26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness. They will rule the fish of the sea, the birds of the sky, the livestock, all the earth, and the creatures that crawl on the earth.”
    Genesis 1:26 HCSB

    Key…… Let US
    who is the US?

  6. Lorna Aniwasal Kihel Borbon says:

Genesis 1:3 LIGHT is the First God mentioned, first WORDS too (John1:1-3) then John 8:12 Jesus said I am the LIGHT

    John 17:4-5
[4]I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
[5]And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.

This is my favorite verse to show his diety

  8. Doreen A. Asañon says:

Well, if the Bible says that Jesus “is the Alpha and Omega” the beginning and the end, this speaks loud and clear that Jesus cannot be a created being. He was called Immanuel, which means “God with us”. And obviously, just as the Bible says, power belongs to God, and so with Jesus comes power too as He is God. The King of kings and the Lord of Lords from the ancient of days according to prophet Daniel. The one who were with the Israelites in the wilderness leading them out from the bondage, according to apostle Paul. The God Almighty who was, and is and is to come according to John.

  9. Micki Shilvock says:

    Proverbs 30:4
Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended?
who hath gathered the wind in his fists?
who hath bound the waters in a garment?
who hath established all the ends of the earth?
what is his name, and WHAT IS HIS SON’S NAME if thou canst tell?

You might also familiarize yourself with Exodus 33. In verse 33 God meets with Moses face to face as friends do. Later on God tells Moses no one can see His face and live. Who was Moses meeting face to face with? It was the preincarnate Jesus!

    Isaiah 48:16
    Come ye near unto me, hear ye this;
    I have not spoken in secret from the beginning;
from the time that it was, there am I:
and now the Lord God, and his Spirit, hath sent me.

Who was around from the beginning? God. Who was sent by God and His Spirit Who was around from the time that it was, the beginning? Jesus.

When people deny the New Testament they must be shown from the Old Testament. My suggestion is find all the proof you can of Jesus there. C

  10. Ernesto Fernandez says:

Start with their bible: John 1:3, they will say yes, Jesus made everything (else), then take them to Isaiah 44:24 and ask where is Jesus in that verse?

  11. Ernesto Fernandez says:

I did this at a park and I didn’t have a Bible but they did, they didn’t know what to say, then I explained the trinity, saying Jesus is God eternal, uncreated.

  12. Jim Lee says:

Real quick, here are a few: (1)Compare Rev 1:8 with Rev 21:6 In one case Christ says I am alpha and omega/ the Almighty. In the other it is God who says it. How many alpha and omegas are there? (2) Also I Cor 8:4-6 say there is one true God, all other are false gods. Yet John 1:1 says the Word was God. Also in Hebrews 1:8 he is called God. Their NWT Bible translates John 1:1 as “the Word was A God.” So if there is only one true God and all other gods are false, and Jesus is “a god” what is Jesus? Is he a true God or a false god? They can’t answer that. If he is a god, and there is only one true God, Jesus must be either a true god or a false god, which is obviously logical ..Also in Isaiah 9:6 he is called “the mighty God.”(3) They translate the greek word “kurios” as Jehovah…except when it refers to Christ and then they are deliberately inconsistent to protect their heresies. For example Philippians 2:11. To be consistent they should translate that “Jesus Christ is Jehovah.” Also look at Colossians 3: 23-24, where in the SAME sentence. they translate kurios as Jehovah two times, but the third time they translate it “master” because their deliberately deceitful translation will not let them say “Jehovah Christ.” This will be good for YOU but don’t expect them to listen. Their true god is the Watchtower organization which will not even let them think outside of their mind control. They must not even question these things without getting into trouble . There is absolutely NO freedom to think among their society.

  13. Loel Passe says:

Hebrews chapter one will blow their Christology away completely and prove Jesus is NOT Michael the arch angel or any angel.

  14. Kim Fanning says:

Interestingly When Thomas saw Jesus and said, “ My Lord and my God”, Jesus did not rebuke or correct him.

  15. Eric Licayan says:

Me when I one of Jehovah’s witnesses came in my house I ask him about the deity of Christ, he said he is only mighty God Jehova is the almighty
The Alpha and Omega the first and the last then I ask him to read in his bible in Isaiah 44:6 revelation 1:8; 1:18 ; 22:13 then I asked him when did Jehova died ,he smiled and say maybe I come back some other time ,I said bring your founder or the leader of Jehovah’s witnesses and I ask when did Jehova died he walked and never came back again

Here in the JW BIBLE, all three persons of the trinity are listed. It’s a hard concept. Like teaching a child using and egg. Three parts: shell, clear/white(like the Holy Spirit) and yolk like the Son. 3parts, 1egg. (No disrespect to the trinity)

  18. Edward Peggy Davidson says:

Go over the history of there bible .

  20. Marne Sayre says:

    Psalm 110:1 Psalm 110:1
The LORD said to my Lord: “Sit at My right hand until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.” – commentary – Verse 1. The LORD said unto thy Lord. — Jehovah said unto my Adonai: David in spirit heard the solemn voice of Jehovah speaking to the Messiah from of old. What wonderful intercourse there has been between the Father and the Son! From this secret and intimate communion springs the covenant of grace and all its marvellous arrangements. All the great acts of grace are brought into actual being by the word of God; had he not spoken, there had been no manifestation of Deity to us; but in the beginning was the Word, and from of old there was mysterious fellowship between the Father and his Son Jesus Christ concerning his people and the great contest on their behalf between himself and the powers of evil. How condescending on Jehovah’s part to permit a mortal ear to hear, and a human pen to record his secret converse with his coequal Son! How greatly should we prize the revelation of his private and solemn discourse with the Son, herein made public for the refreshing of his people! Lord, what is man that thou shouldest thus impart thy secrets unto him!

  21. Paul Olsen says:

They love to be teachers. Get them into their teaching mode first then ask them about their rag, the watchtower and if what it says is true or not. They will say, of course it is. Then ask them about prophets who say things that aren’t true. Don’t have that verse at my finger tips right now but have them read it and see if they agree with it. If so, ask why the watch tower said that the world end, I think 3 different times!
One more thing, since they are teaching a different Jesus, DO NOT INVITE them into your home. There’s a reference for that also.

  22. Spencer Wade says:

Hebrews 1 is good. It mentions that Jesus is greater than the angels and that He is God. Also, John 8:58 where Christ refers to Himself as I AM (YHWH). The fact that He is called Lord is the common indicator of His eternal divinity.

  23. Casey Powell says:

You’re going to notice a distorted form in John 1 where they have it mistranslated “In the beginning was the Word. And the Word was a god.” Poor Greek. It’s to differentiate Jesus from God. This comes from Marcion the heretics point of view from the 2nd century

  24. Jeremy Hill says:

You won’t be using the same scriptures since they have their own translation that supports their view. You’ll have to convince them that they misunderstand how Jesus spoke about himself. Jesus referred to himself most often as “Son of Man”. Maybe start there.

I had to learn how to witness to the JW as well. You’ll have to use their New World Bible. They think other translations are demonic. I had to download a digital copy. Sorry to say they can be very sneaky and argumentative. I tried to follow a pastor’s YouTube instruction and they still caught a small gap I was inexperienced to have closed. I’ll try to find my notes and get back to you. When is your meeting with them? In the meantime, Gene Kim has some helpful YouTube videos on this topic. Before I started, I had to establish basic fundamental truths: 1) best lies are 99.9% fact but that 0.1 lie is what can totally throw you off. You can give examples of other religions such as Mormonism; most sound just like Protestant churches even JW, but they trusted another revelation. 2) if there is 1 mistake/flaw/contradiction in any version of Bible, then that entire Bible can be compromised. After establishing that, then you start to point out the contractions in their Bible. The biggest one is in Revelation. You have to refer back and forth to OT step by step on the deity of Jesus. But it’s so important to have them agree first what they think “The Alpha and Omega” and “The First and The Last”, if you miss a step like I did, they will catch you and you’d have lost the best weapon against them. If done right, they would have no defense but to agree their Bible version is compromised.

Sorry about the multiple posts, ask them to explain which prophet angel or beings were called by the same names/titles…. don’t bombard them with questions , just give them one verse comparison and ask them to please explain to you…

  36. Jim Lee says:

That the Jehovah’s Witness teaching is opposite from Scripture truth is easy to prove. There are literally dozens of ways in which a person who knows the Bible can refute their doctrines and expose their heresies and intentional deceptions. BUT that is not the problem. The problem is that their authority never was the Bible…that is just their ruse. The absolute authority (who is always right and must never be questioned) is the Watchtower organization. That organization is their god. No disagreement is allowed., under threat of being banished from all fellowship with any of them…even your own family! They may come in under the pretense that they want to discuss the Bible, but there is NO openness or teachability on their part. The social pressure and the mind control with which they manipulate their members is TOTAL..

  37. Ramon S. Quilala Jr. says:

For us orthodox christians, any sect that would oppose the divinity of Jesus is reduced to heretics, best move for you is to stop doing studies with them, even their Bible is designed only for them. Get out while you still can.

  38. Pedro Zepeda says:

Jesus is not an angel like they think. Jesus was God in the flesh. In John 8:58 said, “before Abraham was, I Am.” Ego Emmi in the greek which is the same frase we find in the episode of the burning bush in Exodus 3. When Moses asked “who would I say sent me” and then God said “Ego Emmi” I Am. Sooo when Jesus used that phrase “I Am” he was saying that he was God. This is why in the next verse the jews picked up stones and were ready to stone him, becaused he called himself the “I Am”. We also have to note that he wasn’t talking to americans or any other modern nation with a modern language. If he were then he would have said “I Am God”. But that’s not the case, he is speaking to jewish people that spoke Hebrew or Aramaic sooo in there lanuage “I Am” is the equivalent to “Im the God of your ancestors”.

Angela, be sure to take a look at my replies above. Took me a good hour to use their NWT to show that their bible and belief on deity of Jesus is compromised.

  40. Jeff Benjamin says:

I can recommend a couple videos to watch on youtube about this. Jehovah’s Witnesses: beliefs practices, and errors by Mike Winger & by the Living Water with Ray Comfort. try those videos. Also, ask them if they believe if Jesus was a liar, if not, than point them John 2:19 that He was talking about His bodily resurrection and only God can conquer death. There plenty of other indirect references to show His deity as God.

  41. Arthur Adam Haglund says:

    WE told you!

You are not witnessing to them, they are running the show. They lied and said they wanted to study the Bible with you, but you are NOT studying the Bible, you are following them, you are, in essence, and fact, letting Satan lead you and you are following.

You wanted help, then stop it!
You are being disobedient to Christ!

    Do you say, “GoodBye”?
Then the Bible says that you are participating in their sins.

  42. Paul Olsen says:

    Angela,
I found the verse I was looking for earlier.
2Jn 1:9-11: “Whoever goes on ahead and does not remain in the teaching of Christ does not have God. The one who remains in the teaching, this one has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house and do not greet him. For the one who greets him participates in his evil deeds.”

  43. Brian Foster says:

    Here’s my approach:

Invariably the cults attempt to get their foot in the door by claiming the original Bible was corrupted and claim God has given them the corrections. From there, they pick certain Bible verses out of context or that have non-specific meaning or appear to “contradict” in order to “prove” their corruption claim and they then smuggle in their “corrected” truth. From a knock at the door they proceed as if their “truth” has equivalent credibility and want to have a serious dialog regarding the same God Christianity refers to.

Before I have any conversation at all, I make one request to the cult disciples: You say the Bible was corrupted and you now claim to have the information that corrects that corruption. Since anyone could make a similar claim as yourself, and many have, show me an independently verified ancient original uncorrupted copy of the Bible that matches what you’re claiming.

Of course, they’ll respond that the original uncorrupted version was lost, destroyed long ago. This then reveals certain disqualifying characteristics of the god cults can’t help but advocate:

    1. The god they’re advocating was powerless to prevent the corruption of his word in the first place, apparently being subject to the plots and schemes of evil mankind for extended periods of time.
    2. The god they’re advocating is so inept that he could not preserve an uncorrupted copy for later generations to verify “truth” claims that challenged him.
    3. The god they’re advocating is so inept and subject to the schemes of evil men that he was powerless, apparently wringing his hands for over 1500+ years before he could find someone to whom he could send the supposed truth corrections.
    4. The god they’re advocating is so inept that countless generations perished because he was unable to get the corrected truth to mankind for those 1500+ years.

If such an inept and powerless god of the cult actually existed, what makes his cult disciples sure he has any better control over his word than before? With such an inept and powerless god, why isn’t it just as likely that he was overpowered and subject to the plots and schemes of evil men again with their “corrected” version? Such an inept and powerless god is certainly not worthy of worship.

No, the God of the Bible isn’t the inept and powerless god these cult disciples can’t help but advocate. The God who created the universe and life, and had the power to preserve the physical body of the Living Word, his Son Jesus Christ, from seeing corruption in the grave, is certainly capable of protecting his Written Word from the corruptions claimed by the cults.

I could never be persuaded to put my trust and my eternal destiny in the hands of such an inept and powerless god the cults invariably (though most unknowingly) advocate. Therefore, there can be no meaningful dialog with them beyond giving them a good look at the idol they’re peddling.

  44. Jeff Benjamin says:

also, ask if they can check any outside resources & evidence outside the Watchtower for and against the Jehovah’s Witnesses. if not, then why be part it. I’m a christian because I do just that and more
