Do you find it disturbing that Jesus wants us to put love into action, but many Christians just want to argue theological points that bring no one closer to Jesus. I thought this site would be about how to defend your faith, not arguments over doctrinal issues that have remained unresolved for thousands of years.

Don’t take it too personally. We cannot control what other believer is thinking. Argument will exist. I usually refer to Titus 3: 9-10. It help diffuse tension and walk away from unfruitful discussion.
I find the best way to help other is to just truly be a witness.

Well, it depends on what theological points you’re talking about really. Do I think your salvation is on the line if you have differing opinions on some of what Paul said? Nah, I don’t think so. But, there are many theological points which need to be clarified in order for one to have sound doctrine.
Tell me one issue that wasn’t solved for “thousands of years”
I personally believe there are none, as the Orthodox Church already provides all the answers.
To me the ones with doctrine issues are the false ones trying to get us back to the law, the sabbath, etc etc. they are everywhere and take up a lot of the discussions. The other questions are honest ones curious and or just want a discussion over it.

Well said brother. I am not an apologetic but joined the groups to learn. I find it very off putting seeing brothers and sisters in faith debating to be right and not debating to find the truth. It’s like a cock fight… who can use the fanciest words and be the most condescending. It really sad as there are genuinely some good discussion points.
Isn’t it amazing how many ppl claim Christ but completely differ in his word and teachings. Personal interpretation of scripture, feelings and belief turn apologetics into arguments and are the root to division within the body of Christ.
Love stems from truth .. any love based on unity in error is not real love .. love trys to correct .. look back at church history the greatest periods of growth and corporate santification is attained in the controvery and guarding against doctrinal error .. God alowes heresies to purify the church .. and God raises gifted men to cambat it .. Its how thing are and have been from the beggining .. Dont kudge the process by the the flesh sometimes involved in that process ..

I have only just joined- hopefully to learn and develop my understanding of scripture. At the moment I read the comments and decide which ones are of interest to me, which I would like to comment on and which I will lovingly pass by.
I have been asking this matter from long ago, I even posted a post saying “is this an Apologetics group or an argument group against one’s position?” But our Admins. do not accept my post. But I have been in argument as the posts are against the position I hold.
This site reveals that first sometimes we have to define what a Christian actually is before we can share our beliefs, including what Biblical love is. If our terminology uses the same words, but with different meanings, then we have to define our terms. This is an Apologetics page, so that’s what you do. I have had discussions with JW, SDA, Latter Day Saints, Catholics, OP, atheists and agnostics in the short time I have been on here. “Give every man an answer, the reason for the hope that is in you, with gentleness and respect”.
I don’t think that’s peoples fault, I think the Bible is not clear and contradictory which makes it confusing.

No wonder people turn away from the church, or are not excited by Jesus when all they see are the bigoted unloving opinions and attitudes of graceless and merciless Christians.
It’s easier to argue than to love. Love is work, it’s humbling, it can be dangerous and you are likely to be taken advantage of…arguing puffs you up and makes you feel superior to others?
Many in here do not know how to debate and discuss.they only want to bash and insult others…waste of time. If I were monitoring I would not allow insults and name calling, no place for that in a theological discussion..some people don’t know how to politely disagree.

I don’t believe anyone who joins these sites really ever change their doctrines; I have however learned a lot of ways to defend my views. Also just bc you lose a debate doesn’t make your view wrong just means you need to study more-the basics of apologetics.

how is a “doctrinal” issue unresolved? The word of God gives us the doctrine and thus the word of God settles all doctrinal issues without question. Believers are supposed to make their theology and doctrine match what the word of God says, not vice versa
wow, how to answer this post. Well pride has existed for thousands of years. People are misled and have been for thousands of years. The devil never rests. And you have no ability from the outside 2 state is a fact that these arguments don’t help somebody. You will never see people changing their doctrines coming closer to perfect Doctrine you only see the comments. Look at how many members are in this group versus how many people actually post and comment. So forgive me for disagreeing with your viewing Outlook of this page as you stated in your post we are supposed to fervently defend the faith we are supposed to zealously defend the faith and if you read your Bible you’ll see that Paul and Barnabas argued so strongly about taking someone with them that head turned away once before that they broke Fellowship over it later on that breach was healed. So you cannot see what the end result is of all these arguments discussions and debates.

All is not yet said and done. The churl h is ultimately where er his people are and as we value each other we will always seek each other out, sit is the nature of living faith, to rejoice together in the faith with each other. Perhaps not always the same way but in the way appropriate for Circumstances.
I have serious issues with certain things that are considered mainstream or acceptable that atheists frequently site as reasons to disbelieve or to believe that God has caused some evil or genocide and I seek answers to be able to refute and respond in a valid and useful manner. Unfortunately the only answers I have been given generally are based on false doctrine and I must refute false doctrine when I see it.

Yes many apologists are only interested in in house debates which wasn’t the original intention of apologetics.
Correct doctrine brings correct worship, if love action is what your looking for, go do missions work and not in the U.S., plenty of poor countries need the love of Christ shown to them, if your looking for love action, your not going to find it in an apologetic forum, you will find debate, correction, inspiration, revelation, etc. of the word of God

David, Christ himself said He came to bring a sword. He also said His word is foolishness to those who are perishing. Was Christ being loving when He called the Pharisees a brood of vipers? Actually yes he was. Don’t mistake worldly love for Biblical love. They are very different.

And he told us that we would be recognized on Judgement Day based on our choices and deeds Matthew 25:34 it is good to encourage in admonish one another within study but it is more important to feed the hungry clothe the naked shelter the homeless care for the widowed visit the imprisoned. May we have the love and wisdom to keep first things first + our days are numbered and our hair is counted let us prioritize
The Pharisees of Jesus time taught false doctrine to the people and Jesus said they “were the blind leading the blind and both shall fall in the ditch(end up in hell)…so what good is it to bring people to Christ if they are not taught proper and sound doctrine? The writers of the new Testament warned us about the ill fate of the end times church and its false doctrines of devils…

The short answer is yes. I think doctrinal issues can cloud the mind. I’ve had debates over this very issue. It’s the condition of the heart, the sincerity of the heart that matters. Look at the thief on the cross beside Jesus as only 1 example.
Jesus doesn’t want you to put love into action. Rather HE wants you to accept the kingdom of God because once you do, your actions will show the kingdoms traits, of love into action, swift to listen, slow to speak and slow in anger just to name a few.
The love that is of God even Jesus Christ is pure beyond our reason and justified in all righteousness.
