Why when you can use a natural pill like melatonin

  5. Shane Hill says:

There is nothing wrong with a little alcohol….certainly for medicinal purposes….but we must be careful here….

  6. Ed Weems says:

Drink a little wine for thy stomach’s sake, wine is a gift from God to make man’s heart glad, of course if you have a problem you should not be drinking look for people to take one of the gifts of God and call it a bad thing is yes nutty, melatonin is natural so is wine and beer oh, I enjoy a glass of wine with my evening meal, it keeps me regular and I enjoy my meal.

  7. Uma says:

Yes but do not be addict with that but what is the purpose of drinking? Will it glory to God ?

  8. Michele Burley Cotterill says:

Paul told Timothy to have a little wine for his stomach problems. It’s when a person gets drunk that the problem comes in.

  9. Tim Hickling says:

“Drink but do not be drunk” seems to be self-explanatory. If you struggle with the addiction for alcohol, that’s clearly a sinful behavior to indulge.

  10. Lane Heape says:

    try Valerian root

  11. Aaliyah Matthews says:

Why do we need to find excuses to drink when we serve a magnificent God who can heal insomnia or any condition we have?

  12. Jarrett Lee Farewell says:

As long as you’re not drunk then yes. All things in moderation. Anyone who says otherwise is inserting pietistic and legalistic traditions where Scripture explicitly DOES NOT condemn the drinking of alcohol as sin; it condemns drunkenness. And if we should think that all alcohol should be avoided because of the possibility of what could happen, then we pretend that we are wiser than God and speak one thing where the authority of Scripture speaks another. And if anyone says that alcohol is evil and destroys lives then they are projecting their sin and intent into an amoral and inanimate object that has no will or intent, it’s all about what you do with it. Furthermore, if alcohol is so evil as some may think, then rubbing alcohol for cleaning before a shot, Purell, or mouthwash are all evil, so the logic is fallible. Alcohol is wonderful and can glorify God in our enjoyment of it when done in moderation.

  13. Thato Masiu says:

No. If Christians struggles with sleep, they should consult the doctor and the bible. The doctor will diagnose and recommend medication (thank You Almighty God for the doctors) and Lord Jesus Immanuel Christ will heal and ensure the devil steals not Christians joy of sleep ever again.

  14. Ryan Brownley says:

The Bible isn’t against drinking or alcohol in and of itself. Even Paul permits Timothy to have some wine to help with his belly. The problem is over indulgence. The Bible instructs is that we are to be sober minded, not given to too much alcohol.

  15. Patrick Yisrael says:

There also is a proverb about drinking. Check the book of Proverbs.

  16. Raja Anand says:

If we want to be controlled by the Spirit of God we cannot also be controlled by alcohol. The two cannot simultaneously hold sway. When we choose one, we eliminate the influence of the other. As Christians, we are to always “walk in the Spirit” (Galatians 5:16, 25; Romans 8:1, 14). So drunkenness for a Christian is never an option on any occasion because there is no occasion when we should not be walking in the Spirit.

  17. Connie Lee-Anne says:

You can but you shouldn’t. If you are drinking alcohol for a self medication purpose then you’re turning to mal-adaptive coping mechanisms.
Look into why you aren’t sleeping, try natural supplements like melatonin.

  18. Duane L Burgess says:

    Does alcohol help with sleep?
    Alcohol is a poison.
We can tolerate some of it.
    Scripture doesn’t forbid fermented wine.
    Scripture warns of drunkenness.

  19. Isaac Hauzel says:

Unless you’re drunk it’s totally fine

  20. Jenny Tressler says:

A glass of wine after dinner is said to be healthy…but if you’re getting addicted, it’s better to cut it out. Everything in moderation.

  21. Jacob Weaver says:

There is absolutely nothing wrong with drinking alcohol. The Lord Himself drank wine. What is bad is when it becomes an addiction. Everything in moderation.

  22. Ben Peckover says:

If you mean to get blotto. No. Just have a drink to relax. That’s fine.

  23. Peyton Freebird White says:

All things are permissible, but not all things are beneficial. Moderation is the key.

  24. Wynni Wagner says:

Alcohol is not the sin. Drunkenness is….

  25. Sharon Brown says:

    Try melatonin it’s natural

  26. Ngazipme Shirak says:

if it is to just induce sleep… why take it at all so you dont have to ask such question. surely there will be many cheaper cleaner means or ways for you to have a good night sleep

  27. J.R. Sartin says:

Yes, and legalism is a nasty ditch.

  28. Nedson K. Banda says:

The problem is not alcohol. The is getting drunk. It’s not only alcohol which intoscates. The are many other causes. Power (leadership position), money, education, group of people you come from( racism or tribalism).

  29. Avi-Asher Hyde says:

If you have struggles falling asleep like I do, you can try natural remedies like melatonin (what the body naturally produces to fall asleep).

Alcohol, by definition, is poison for our bodies. Depression, anxiety, dependance, (not to mention cost) and obviously insomnia are unavoidable results of daily drinking to excess.

  30. Ann Brown says:

The Most High has commanded in His word that we enjoy His feasts by purchasing

    ****WINE AND STRONG DRINK****

    if we choose to:

Which of you here want to refute this command?

  31. Greg Volz says:

My advice as a former alcoholic…be very careful. Drinking is not sin but can quickly turn into it. Sin desires to have you and make you a slave.

  32. Stan Wosnicki says:

The Bible warns against abuse not use.
Be careful as bad habits and behaviors can follow.

  33. Patricia Ramirez says:

When you like to drink alcohol you will find every excuse in the world to keep doing it and come out w bible verses to support your habit. My was food I was hungry all the time and eating and eating one day in my prayer time I saw this verse Philippians 3:19 after that I declare that I had only one God! And my stomach is not my God ! Later that day, the never ending hunger Stop! Brothers and sister when the world see you drinking only one sip , to them your a Drunk! And they won’t receive anything from a person that has a drinking problem.

  34. Josh Miller says:

Face value, I don’t believe this would contradict any biblical commandments. However, it isn’t wise. That would never be a medical recommendation. For many reasons.

  35. Marlene Ferguson says:

This is the worst thing you can do for sleep, from a medical point of view. The alcohol will put you to sleep, briefly. But then, it disappears rapidly, leaving you with a lot of sugar in your system, which will wake you up. A doctor told it to my son, and when he stopped drinking at night, he slept so much better.

Then there is the possibility of developing alcoholism. I wouldn’t play with that. Plus, I personally do not believe God wants us to self-medicate with alcohol. Try Trazadone. It is a good sleeping pill. You don’t have to increase it, and it doesn’t leave you drugged in the morning. You do need to get it doctor prescribed. I have really bad insomnia and have since I was a small child. I’m glad for doctors and medicine which help my life.

  36. Michael Hall says:

Alcohol is not an issue. The abuse of it is. If you need 8 beer to fall asleep every night, it’s not ‘help’. That would make you an alcoholic who needs help.

  37. Spencer Williams says:

Alcohol can help fall asleep but reduces the quality of your sleep so it’s not the best sleep aid. Also if you have addictive slant to you I would definitely avoid it. No it’s not a sin to drink but it’s not the best witness either.

  38. Marlene Ferguson says:

I make no judgement on people who drink. I stopped drinking when God saved me, 40 years ago. I should never drink, and now medically I cannot drink.

But, it is also a medical problem when people start to self medicate themselves with alcohol to get to sleep. I understand insomnia. I have had it my whole life. But, there are many other prescription drugs that can put you to sleep, or methods such as Christian medication. It is just bad judgement to take alcohol to make you sleep. It has the opposite effect, in the end.

These are only a few links. I think damaging your body is a sin, because we are the temple of the Holy Spirit.

  39. Wyndell Ferrell says:

Do what you think is needed for your body. Remember, its not about what we do. Its about what He did.

  40. Michael Strycula says:

Yes. Paul exhorted Timothy to take alcohol to calm his stomach. It’s all in how you use it and what it turns you into.

  41. Julian Collins says:

I used to work nights and I can tell you that drinking before going to bed does NOT give a refreshing sleep. And it can easily form a habit

  42. Jay Zeke Malakai says:

Scripture tells us to let no one judge us in food or drink. The only restriction (aside from addiction) is if it causes a brother to stumble. Beyond that, Paul tells us that all is permissible, but not all is beneficial. It seems most comments on this post say it doesn’t actually help with sleep. You’re free to try it, but you should consider the potential results.

  43. Fortune Eze says:

It is God that gives sleep, not alcohol. Psalms 3:5

  44. Rainier Ray says:

How much are we talking? To clarify, alcohol by itself is not prohibited but alcoholism is. Just like food is not sinful but gluttony is. Just like dreams and goals are not sinful but covetousness is. The common vein is quantity and quality. If you find that “some” alcohol helps, then that can be defended but it’s when it’s taken to the extreme or a dependence/addiction ensues, that’s when it’s sin.

  45. Sheila Anne says:

    It woudn’t appeal to me

  46. Gregory Arellano says:

Alcohol may make you fall asleep more easily but it greatly reduces sleep quality.

Speak with your doctor for better methods. I use to use a small amount of whiskey but moved away.

  47. Rachel Draker- Rangel says:

Your question is a 3 parter. 1) Can Christians drink alcohol? Answer: There is no commandment not to drink alcohol but drunkenness and subsequent slothfulness are clearly not part of living our best Christ like life. 2) Can a Christian be dependent on anything- including alcohol- in order to receive a needed result? No. The Bible is clear that our hearts and minds should remain clear headed and retain discernment and lean upon God for help through struggles. 3) Can a Christian take medicine to sleep, cure an ailment etc? This goes back to dependency and thus abuse. Which are both not Biblical but is medicine in order to cure or heal a physical/chemical/hormonal issue in a healthy doctor approved program wrong? Obviously this would be a no. Medicine is good as long as it’s ethically prescribed and ingested. *I’d just add that not all medicines or doctors are created equal and to always try the healthiest most natural route possible before trusting in prescriptions. I also think an occasional use of a glass of wine to aid sleep is not a dependency and thus would be fine. Common sense and discernment applying always. I’m an insomniac too. Melatonin and sleepy time tea work well as does exercise.

  48. Jo Jo says:

Yes, but not all the time. I dont think it’s a good idea to drink alcohol everyday for sleep. We develop a tolerance and if we drink regularly. Soon 1 glass wont be enough. 1 glass will lead to 2. 2 to 3.. and so on.
Exercise can help you sleep better. When the body is tired, it automatically wants to rest. And of course reading God’s Word ?

  49. Annie Nana Twumwaa says:

There’s so many ways of getting sleep without Alcohol though.

  50. Kevin Kilpatrick says:

I don’t. It is not a good witness to be seen at the liquor store. I quit drinking when God showed me I was headed to Hell.
