Jesus Christ is our example how old was he when he was baptized?
Infants don’t even know what baptism is
Where does it condone infant baptism? And your ideology comes from your broken theology that baptism is necessary for salvation when baptism is symbolic of our obedience and our spiritual death and Resurrection with the Lord Jesus into new lives
Infants can’t make an informed choice about accepting Christ as their savour
The same place it denies infant ear piercing.
Nowhere…It’s never practiced before and after Jesus. Only adults were baptised in the Bible.
Infants cannot confess Christ for repentance unto salvation, which is a prerequisite for baptism.
The bible says we must repent and then baptised, a baby can’t repent!
The Bible does not expressly deny infant baptism.
Where in the Bible does it approve infant baptism? If there is no where in the Bible, then know that you and your priest just added that doctrine to the inalterable (Bible) word of God
Jonh the Baptist baptized people who repented and came to Jesus. It doesn’t say he baptized babies
Baptism is a symbol of regeneration. It is a willful association with Christ’s burial & resurrection and represents the washing away of our sins. It requires intelligence — understanding and comprehension. An infant has neither.
One has to accept Christ to be baptized. What do infants understand about sin
“Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved” Mark 16: 16, the word “believes” suggests a person who baptized must have this consent of putting their faith in Christ but an infant cannot believe or put their faith in Christ. So, infant baptism is wrong.
OP: Better yet, where does it affirm it? The burden of proof falls on the affirmative and the negative contructives – not on the denier.
The better question would be “where does it say it is necessary?” The idea of infant baptism is to remove original sin. When I Christened my babies (I was not catholic but my ex husband was) I was in shock when I was told in the pre-required class to learn that the reason they are baptized was to remove that original sin so that they wouldn’t go into purgatory if they died. No way no how do I believe that God would deny the entrance into heaven of an innocent child who is unknowing of sin because their parents didn’t have the priest sprinkle water on their heads. The Bible tells repeatedly that salvation is attained through Christ alone. Baptism does not save you, Jesus alone does that. Baptism is a symbolic act that a person does when they have truly repented and accepted Christ. You have to be of an age to understand what that means. Infants are not. Do I think it’s sinful to baptize a baby? No. But that baptism does not ensure salvation for the child. The child’s own free will acceptance of Christ does. I prefer baby dedications where the parents vow to raise the child up in the ways of the Lord, which will (hopefully) lead to that child’s salvation when they are old enough to understand sin and repentance. And before the child’s understanding and ability to do that, if tragedy happens, I believe those sweet babies go to rest in the arms of Jesus. I suppose this could start another debate on the “age of accountability”. But I would say there is no definite age. It’s different for everyone. Remember, God knows our hearts. And God knows when a person, at whatever age, fully understands the reality of Him and what it means to sin and the sacrifice the Jesus made for us. I also believe that some people never reach that age because of mental handicaps.
Who is in a household?
The bible denied it because the requirements of baptism is to repent and then baptize.Since baby have no ability to repent then thats clearly understood denied.
Where it is written infants should be baptized
My question to you is, where on the Bible do you find infant baptism?
Baptism is nothing more than immersion in water and turning away from sin. This is what John the Baptist was doing, calling people not to repent but to turn away from sin. People are immersed into someone/something. As a believer we must consent (choose) be immersed into the Messiah and turn from our old ways.
Acts 19 (CJB)
19 While Apollos was in Corinth, Sha’ul [Paul] completed his travels through the inland country and arrived at Ephesus, where he found a few talmidim [disciples]. 2 He asked them, “Did you receive the Ruach HaKodesh [Holy Spirit] when you came to trust?” “No,” they said to him, “we have never even heard that there is such a thing as the Ruach HaKodesh.” 3 “In that case,” he said, “into what were you immersed?” “The immersion of Yochanan [John],” they answered. 4 Sha’ul said, “Yochanan practiced an immersion in connection with turning from sin to God; but he told the people to put their trust in the one who would come after him, that is, in Yeshua.” 5 On hearing this, they were immersed into the name of the Lord Yeshua;
Zephaniah 3:9 (KJV)
For then will I turn to the people a pure language, that they may all call upon the name of the LORD, to serve him with one consent.
We must make the choice by ourselves. No human can make that choice for us. A baby/child cannot turn from something they are not aware of. Neither can they consent into something they are not capable of understanding. Shalom
The point of Baptism is to publicly show that you have made the decision to follow Christ.being put under water and up again signifies the washing away of sins and coming up a new creation in Christ.Infants cant do that so it makes no logiv
Invalid question…its nonsense.
Just ask “what kind of baptism was practiced written in the Bible”…?
Where in the Bible it is accepted?
The question should be, where in the Bible can you find infant baptism?
The very word “baptism” comes from the Greek root BAP that means to plunge, dip or immerse. Such actions can be dangerous for infants. The Great Commission lays out a three step approach to the making of a disciples. First, we make a disciple, then we baptize him or her, and then we teach that disciple everything Jesus taught (Mt. 28:19-20). It implies adults who have some understanding of the Christian faith. That rules out being an infant. All the baptism in the book of Acts follows these same three steps in the same sequence.
Baptism is an act of obedience and publicly declares that you believe Jesus was crucified for my sins, died and arose again . He defeated death. A baby cannot make that decision.
In Revelations 23:1-9 read it tell me what it says.
Something that makes sense to me just sharing.
Acts 2:38 “each of you must repent of your sins…and be aptized.
Obviously an infant cannot do this thing( repent).
Baptism is an outward testimony of an inward transformation. It’s the first step of obedience for a disciple of Christ. You are sealed by the holy spirit in baptism and marked as Christ’s own forever. How can an infant have that inward transformation?
THE BIBLE DOESNT DENY IT BECAUSE IT NEVER TAUGHT IT. Common sense
Without faith it is impossible to please God Heb 11:6.
A baby cannot hold faith
Where in the Bible was an infant baptized?
The book of” I know better” page 234,ch. 4:2-9 says… Which seems to me that is a lot of people go to book.
What is baptism? When you understand the true definition, you will see why it’s impossible for an Infinite to get baptized
If you want to baptize a baby go ahead! If you want to dedicate that child to the Lord and signify that with baptism go for it, but remember it is an oath you make and are responsible for not the child. If you think the child is saved because you had them baptized then you are delusional. If nonconsensual baptism saves then just dunk your unsaved loved one next time they are in the pool or pray over them in the shower.
Where in the Bible does it describe infant baptism in the first place? (Household baptisms don’t describe infants being baptized. It is an assumption that this includes infants) Also, where does it command anyone to baptize infants? Especially when “baptizo” means to immerse…. Read the Reformers and Their Stepchildren” which clearly lays out the fact that infant baptism is simply a carryover from the Catholic church. No one has really been able to defend against this argument.
Beginning with a question framed like this seems to reveal a preconceived notion. Is this the right way to approach scripture, God’s written revelation to us? Might I suggest we instead ask “what does the bible have to say about baptism”? If we honestly ask in this manner we find that nowhere does the bible explicitly say anything about infant baptism. It does explicitly speak of water baptism of believers. Some suggest households are saved and baptized and conclude that households include children, even infants. The question should then be asked is this enough to create an entire doctrine? Why would the Bible not provide examples and instructions if infant baptism was commanded?
Not the right question. The right question is where in the Bible is there an example of infant baptism!
When it extends baptism to those who believe in Jesus, who have sins to repent of, who call on the name of (appeal to the authority) of Jesus, who can make an appeal to God for a clean conscience, and other things that an infant cannot do.
All references to baptism all say that either confession or belief are required prior to being baptized. Either one of them require a level of understanding that is impossible for an infant. Look at Acts 8:37 and Acts chapter 10 for two good examples of this. If your Bible doesn’t have Acts 8:37 you need to toss it in the trash and get a real one.
Baptism is for adults but dedication is for infants. Infants cannot repent nor profess confession of faith. Jesus was adult and was about to start ministry here on earth when he was baptized by John de Baptist.
The Baptism of Jesus
Matthew 3:13-17 (NLT) 13 Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to talk him out of it. “I am the one who needs to be baptized by you,” he said, “so why are you coming to me?”
15 But Jesus said, “It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires.*” So John agreed to baptize him.
16 After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened* and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”
John had been explaining that Jesus’ baptism would be much greater than his, when suddenly Jesus came to him and asked to be baptized! John felt unqualified. He wanted Jesus to baptize him. Why did Jesus ask to be baptized? It was not for repentance for sin because Jesus never sinned. “We must do everything that is right” refers to accomplishing God’s mission. Jesus saw his baptism as advancing God’s work. Jesus was baptized because (1) he was confessing sin on behalf of the nation, as Nehemiah, Ezra, Moses, and Daniel had done; (2) he was showing support for what John was doing; (3) he was inaugurating his public ministry; (4) he was identifying with the penitent people of God, not with the critical Pharisees who were only watching. Jesus, the perfect man, didn’t need baptism for sin, but he accepted baptism in obedient service to the Father, and God showed his approval.
Put yourself in John’s shoes. Your work is going well, people are taking notice, everything is growing. But you know that the purpose of your work is to prepare the people for Jesus (John 1:35-37). Then Jesus arrives, and his coming tests your integrity. Will you be able to turn your followers over to him? John passed the test by publicly baptizing Jesus. Soon he would say, “He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less” (John 3:30). Can we, like John, put our egos and profitable work aside in order to point others to Jesus? Are we willing to lose some of our status so that everyone will benefit?
Well where in the Bible there is infant baptism!!
Baptism, as modeled by the Spirit in the Scriptures, is relevant ONLY for those who have trusted in Jesus Christ as Lord for the remission of sin. Unless one has attained an age sufficient to understand God’s righteous decrees upon their life, they cannot adequately discern and decide in the affirmative to trust in Jesus Christ as Lord or to deny Him; therefore, baptism, having been demonstrated as an act of obedience to Jesus’ command, plays no role in the life of an infant nor do the Scriptures articulate pedobaptism as any form of doctrine or practice in the Church.
Pedobaptism does not glorify God but only brings recognition to the parents and the Church, nothing more, nothing less. If a mom and dad desire to dedicate their child to the Lord and promise to raise said child in the fear and admonition of our Lord…this is Scriptural and a beautiful thing but water is a non-issue.
Pedobaptism is also a dangerous practice in that untold numbers of men and women, having been baptized as an infant, mature and live a life apart from grace through faith in Jesus as Lord yet they mistakenly believe that their infant baptism has somehow bestowed God’s grace and mercy upon them; therefore, they erroneously believe they are saved and secure not knowing they are headed to death sin and death in Hell (John 8:24).
Deuteronomy11-2
And know ye this day: for I speak not with your children which have not known, and which have not seen the chastisement of the LORD your God, his greatness, his mighty hand, and his stretched out arm..
Jesus said in mark 16:16
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.
It means that’s the criteria to be saved..
A child can not believe, cannot confess, and cannot repent.
The first instance we have of infant baptism is not until the 3rd century A.D. There may have been some obscure references to infant baptism as early as 180 A.D. by Ireneaus but it was not practiced widely until the 3rd century.
Tim Rydstrom, You can’t go by what the Bible Doesn’t say, We have to go by what it Does say. Which is, To be baptised, a person must Hear, understand and believe the gospel, Then choose to repent and be born again, Then choose to be baptised. So how can an infant do those things.
Our greatest example of Baptizm is Jesus. He was baptized when he was 30 yrs. old. Why? Well we have the answer in Mark 16:16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved but whoever does not believe will be condemned. Plain and simple it is necessary for you to believe in Christ before baptizing and it is impossible for an infant to have that understanding. Hope this answers your question.
