And does it apply to Christians today?

Yes it applies! Our God changes not. Same today and yesterday and forever. I am now living by these truths and have my sights on mountains that must be moved in our day. I will move them and they will be moved… I, yet not I…
Edit to add: How it applies to the sovereignty of God? The very words that Yeshua spoke there are revealing His sovereign will for us who believe. So… it is God’s will that we seek only His face so that we might be made to discern it…. both individually and corporately. Whatever we ask according to His revealed will in a real-time matter it shall be done.

Jesus is using metaphor and hyperbole. If you take the passage literally you make Jesus a liar. In this passage we need to examine the underlying principles.

Mark 11:23 this mountain . . . into the sea. This expression was related to a common metaphor of that day, “rooter up of mountains,” which was used in Jewish literature of great rabbis and spiritual leaders who could solve difficult problems and seemingly do the impossible. Obviously, Jesus did not literally uproot mountains; in fact, he refused to do such spectacular miracles for the unbelieving Jewish leaders (see note on Matt. 12:38). Jesus’ point is that if believers sincerely trust in God and truly realize the unlimited power that is available through such faith in him, they will see his mighty powers at work (cf. John 14:13–14; see note on Matt. 21:21).

He said have faith. No instruction on how to get the faith that saves. God gives that in regeneration. Other passages. Not just one.

Phrases that have to do with “moving mountains” is metaphorical for “accomplishing extremely difficult tasks.”

It applies very much today. My family has seen tremendous tragedy and lose (mountains) the last 3 years. Ive witnessed first hand God moving those mountains.

It’s important to note you can’t have faith if you don’t hear the message. This would be God pursuing your heart. Romans 1 tells us he pursues all our hearts with his creation as evidence. After that a quote I’ve heard is “God causes us to choose faith or not.” I believe faith is our response to Gods call so there is a human action involved so I may not be Calvinist Idk. I don’t believe our action to choose is free. Its yes or no.
