In the bible, the term is used in three ways to the refer to: (1) Israel (Isa. 45:4); (2) Jesus Christ (Isa. 42:1); (3) the church/born again christians (Eph. 1).

The church/believers. The church is the elect. Jesus is coming back for his bride which is the church.
Christ is coming back to get his people which is called the rapture. Paul thought in his time that the rapture is coming.
Christ will rapture his people then the 7 year tabulation will start.
God doesn’t want his people to experience his wrath.

His elect are those He knew would accept Him according to His foreknowledge. The elect are those who are in Christ. God was not willing that any perish. Christ’s sacrifice was available for any and all who would accept the free gift of salvation. The elect are those who accept the free gift. There is biblical basis for all of this. I do not believe the elect are a select group of people who won a salvation lottery and were predetermined to do so. That would mean the Bible would be wrong when it says “whosoever” “any” and “all”.

Revelation 13:8 answers your question and the more time you spend in the Word the more you will with the Holy Spirit’s help just simply thank God that He has saved you. Also, consider Jesus’ words in Luke 10:20.

From what i know the elect are the ones who understand the events of the end times, those who will stand against the Anti Christ in the last days of this Earth Age.

Some people cant Handel Roman’s chapter 9 it appears like God is not fair. The broader doctrine is the sovereignty of God. He choses who he wants to save before they are born. In Roman’s 9:18 it says Therefore hath he mercy on whom he will have mercy.

The answer depends on the context of the verse. The word translated into ‘elect’ is first found in Isaiah referring to God electing Israel for the proclamation of His commands and the bringing forth of the Messiah. Other passages refer to Christ being the chosen servant or the elect of God. In Roman’s 8 and 9, paul is referring to the election of the people of Israel like first found in Isaiah.

The idea of people being predestined for salvation and others for hell, originated from Augustine. Who, for the majority of his life believed in gnosticism. Salvation from knowledge. He took some of that with him into christianity and formed a theology that John Calvin took off with. It comes down to who God is. Is He a God that predestines people to hell (which you find nowhere in scripture) or is He a God who desires for all men to know Him and be saved (which is in scripture) 1 Timothy 2:4
If calvinism is correct, then nonbelievers have the greatest excuse in the world.
