   We have so many psychological factors influencing our thought process that we can’t really trust our full end to end thought processes enough to depend upon them fully. As Christians we have to account for various thoughts and biases in our thought processes, but ultimately seek God and his guidance for the truth in all these matters.

   Reason itself ought to lead us to distrust of purely reasoned conclusions, especially when we factor in that the world has been patterned after a God whose thought processes are above and beyond our own.

   We’re very unlikely to ever arrive at reasoned explanations that accurately explain his nature and being – he’s always above and beyond what we can conceive of. So we must do our best with the tools we have, yet humbly acknowledge that we will never fully understand. Beware any man or woman who claims to possess the final truths in being able to explain the ways or nature of God, except for what has been clearly and repeatedly revealed and affirmed in scripture. Many have tried and failed to build robust systems of thinking on top of these.

   I’d say choices are made as a combination: experiences, preferences and wisdom from God.

   Your reasoning is negatively affected by your education. That‘s the Tree of Knowledge.
   You don‘t need reasoning when you read a piece of news or a piece of fact from a history book. If the news or book says that a person made a speech, what reasoning do you need? You need none. Either you believe the guy exists and said it, or you don‘t while neither of your choice affects the truth itself.
   Similarly, when it is said that someone lived long ago encountered a God to know that afterlife exists, what reasoning do you need? Even our today‘s science is incapable to confirm or reject as science only works inside our living realm but not beyond as we cant go beyond our space and time to establish experiments to scientifically confirm the situation. So what you need is the faith to believe or reject, neither of your choice affects what it actually is. This is the Tree of Life, guarded by God from the reach of humans since Eden.
   So your choice boils down to whether to rely on your reasoning which is a delusion to make a decision, or rely on your faith to make a decision, under the circumstance that your either choice doesn‘t affect what truth is.
