You can repeat what I say or you can do what I say.
Matthew 28:19 is asking for a Name.
Acts 2:38 is obeying. -
Peter tells us to be baptized in the name Jesus Christ. I think this means by the authority of Jesus Christ. Jesus gave us the formula to be baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Nothing IMHO. Majority view is “in the name” means the same as in the authority of. But if it makes you feel better combine it. In the name of the father Son Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit. ?

To shut up the controversy, and knowing the Greek prepositions were somewhat interchangeable, I used to baptize “Into the Name of Jesus Christ, in the Name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.”

in the great commission…matt 28 19….it helps to read the previous verse matt 28 18….Jesus says all power in heaven and earth is given to me…..so does the name of jesus make more sense now? It did to the apostles because 50 or so days later they baptized the first converts in Jesus name acts 2 38

Noone baptized in titles until late 2nd century. Prior to that it was always “in” or “into” the Name of Jesus (Christ).

Really not much difference. The controversy is mostly because Unitarian pentecostals who follow Monarchianism and Sabelianism have adopted an ideology that was considered heresy and rejected by all Trinitarian Christian’s.
And the Unitarian Christians acuse Trinitarians of being pagans worshiping three gods…It goes down to this
When you read Scripture you find that The Father, The Son and the Holy Spirit are all One, yet they do exist in separate persons. Jesus prayed to the Father, and sent us the Holy Spirit to be our Counslor.
We will have to decide if we will obey Jesus’s command on Mathew 28:19-20

The baptismal formula is clearest in Matthew 28:19. This is significant since it comes from the most “Jewish“ of the Gospel accounts, by this implication it’s focus is heavily on theological precision.

Nothing, In Matt 28:17-19 Christ tells us that all authority has been given to him. And what does he do? He hands it back to the Father and Spirit. This is pure Unity.
To do something “in the Name of..” means in the authority or power of.
For example: A rider gallops up to a castle gate and says, ” IN THE NAME OF THE KING, OPEN THE GATES!”, this rider is not just using his level of military authority, but is on a mission by the King, for the King. And the King’s authority is stretches out through this rider. Giving this soldier the complete authority that he needs to accomplish his mission.
The Same is happening in the NT. We can either baptize in the Name of all 3. Or, because Christ has been given all authority and power, we can do it in his name alone. So Matt 28:19 is showing the Christians that all 3 persons within the Godhead are on board with this. And Christ made it clear, in Matt 28:17, that you can do it, in the name of the one who has all authority right now.

There are so many opinions here. Some make sense and some do not. But I can tell you that Jesus or God or however you want to say it, knows your true heart in anything that you do. If you want to eat pork do so. If not, then it’s okay too. Right? So since it is not a prerequisite to being saved, I would say (from what the Bible says) that since it is an outward sign of in inward change, it matters what your heart feels.

You will never find in the Bible where they baptized anyone in the the titles “Father, Son , and holy spiritual.”
Peter said in acts 2:38 “ repent and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. “
Mathew 28:19 says “ baptizing them in the “Name” of the Father and of the son, and of the Holy Ghost.

Well first of all it is not recorded the exact words spoken when someone was being baptized. Maybe they said something like this, according to your profession and faith in Jesus Christ we now baptize you in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.
That type of baptism you will be recognizing all three persons of the Divine Trinity. -

Jesus Christ command baptized in the name of the Father ,Son ,Holy Ghost , because they already known Christ , but the unbelievers are not , so the apostles invited them to be baptized in the name of Jesus , maybe they know the history of Jesus ,but not as personal savior . So baptizing in the name of the Father , Son , Holy Ghost ,is a command for the believers who performed the baptizing , baptizing in the name of Jesus is a command for unbelievers who invited to believe in Christ .

God is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. 1 God 3 persons. It’s not just Jesus Christ in heaven. But there are 3 that bear record in heaven. Jesus said my Father bears witness of Me. I am not Alone. Baptism in Jesus Name alone is false because it doesn’t acknowledge the Father and the Spirit. the command of Christ Jesus before His ascension was in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit to water baptize to all the gentiles. The command that Jesus said of baptism in the name of the father (what’s that name) ,the son (What that name) and the spirit (whats that name)…of course all these are not names..they are all titles of names… giving an illustration.. a servant sent to another kingdom in the name of his master..he says in the name of king so so..my master I come.
So the biblical teaching is that the name of the father, the son and the holy spirit is JESUS CHRIST..the name through which the father the son and the spirit has saved us..in this age n that to come…
So baptism is ministered in the name of JESUS CHRIST. -
I wondered about that myself. The three are one. So, if you have Jesus, you have all three.

I choose not to get caught up with worrying about these differences, God knows our heart. Baptism and exactly which words are spoken is not what saves us, our belief and choice to make Him Lord of our lives is what matters. Jesus is always clear – do not miss the heart of the matter.
