So a little demonstration about the “circle of the earth”.
So a little demonstration about the “circle of the earth”.
Come on preach
Nice simple explanation, it is a simple concept really, but I assume that most flat earthers haven’t taken basic geometry class.
lol, might as well become a Catholic because you bend scriptures and forget nearly 144 other verses to prove your fallacy as truth. Keep going, I can’t get this kind of entertainment anymore since I stopped watching Hollywood and the News.
I hope one day everyone will be able to be honest with themselves and recognize that the bible discusses the earth using the same cosmology of the ancient near east that all the ANE cultures shared. This isnt even debatable within scholarly circles.
The bible isnt teaching cosmology, it is teaching theology. The ancients wouldn’t have a modern scientific understanding of the earth and shouldn’t be expected to. God obviously wasn’t trying to clear up scientific misunderstandings but rather theological ones.
I often hear that the bible is using poetic descriptions that get interpreted literally by those who believe it teaches a flat earth. Would a biblical author really use descriptions poetically that precisely share the exact same elements and descriptions that everyone, including all the neighboring cultures, already literally believe about the cosmos. That wouldn’t be confusing at all.
Even Josephus describes how the jews viewed the cosmology of the bible. Do we really believe that only modern readers of scripture are the ones who finally understand that the bible actually describes a modern cosmology? In the future when our current view of cosmology becomes outdated will there be apologists defending the idea that the bible actually teaches this new understanding?
All of this just provides more fuel for the atheist to attack scripture because the apologist buys into their paradigm that the scriptures cant be taken seriously if it doesn’t incorporate modern scientific knowledge. This is so unnecessary and simply not true. The bible tells the story of God’s plan concerning mankind and teaches theology about how man can be reconciled to him. The ever changing understanding of science is not an important part of that story.
I highly recommend the work of Dr. Michael Heiser.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again,
“Trying to explain to someone who won’t listen is, like Jesus said, ‘casting pearls before swine’”
