why do want to follow JEWISH LAW ?

  2. Aaron B Lister says:

    The same applies today.
    Ephesians 6:2

I don’t believe it applies to this life but the next.

  3. Thato Masiu says:

It applies to all of us children..whether we are infant children, toddler children, teenage children, young adult children, adult children and veteran children. There is One True Parent to us all (Revelation 1:8)

  4. Anna Lotta says:

I’m not sure exactly, but I would put it to you that perhaps it counts as long as the children are not married? As in, a man must leave his father and mother and cleave unto his wife? Perhaps that is the defining moment of not being a child, but then again, your parents are always your parents so it could be a forever-thing

If there parents are still alive why would it not?

  6. Jimmy Slater says:

Wrong, it says in Galatians 6:1-2 ” children obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right, honor your father and mother ” (this is the first commandment with a promise), ESV

  7. Tonya M. Bechtold says:

The Bible also says that slaves are to obey their masters and show them do respect. In a lot of cases, in the Bible, slaves were not the slaves that we are thinking of, but they were servants who are well taken care of. I’m saying sometimes folks, not all the time! God is getting to the heart of the matter. Self-control. It is one of the fruits of the Holy Spirit and as believers in Jesus Christ, we are to represent him well. It Certainly isn’t easy, but it is our high calling in Christ Jesus.

  8. James C Prinkey III says:

To honor your father and mother means to carry on in their example.
The responsibility falls to the parents to be a righteous example. People think this commandment is for children, that’s wrong, its for the parents.

My grandmother lived to be 93.
She was healthy and independent until the last year of her life.
She always told me that she respected and honored her parents. Spoke to me often about them. And quoted this verse to us.
My dad is now 87, he is vibrant and healthy.
He looked after my grandmother with her shopping , grass cutting , home repairs and such.
He also has helped out many widows from the church and community.
I told him recently that I believe that is why you have been rewarded with a long and healthy life.
Because most of his friends have died.

Well, purely from anecdotal experience, my mom and I had a strained relationship from childhood till late 30’s when I was hopelessly lost in new age deception. After being born again, we are much closer and I care about her feelings where I used to not. My brother is pro abortion, pro all the other leftist insanity and he regularly emotionally abuses her about how her faith makes her vote in ways that destroy the country. He won’t let her have a minute to defend her faith or stand up for herself. She still deeply loves him but dreads his calls. He is only 3 years younger than me. I guess what I am saying is an adult child can honor their parents by not raking them over coals because they are ideologically possessed.

    Never stop honoring.

  14. Richard Carson says:

There’s an order to the commandments. God comes first (authority comes from God not parents), No other gods (parents cannot become an idol), Taking or Carrying or embodying God’s name upon yourself is sacred (you cannot be a follower and behave in ways against god, regardless of what parents say), Keep the Sabbath Holy (regardless of what your parents say), then it gets to honor your Parents.

You cannot get to a place where you are able to honor your parents unless the first Four Commandments in place. They are the context for your ability to honor them.

Adult children honor their parents by putting God’s Authority first, Not making false gods or idols, Living in a way that doesn’t put God to shame as a follower, and remembering to take a time of rest to recognize God’s Holiness. If those are in order, then listening to your parents and caring for them (keeping in mind all demands are secondary to God) will be pretty effortless. And it’s a chain, the parents are to honor their parents keeping the first Four Commandments in their proper place.

The first Five Commandments are all about orienting your life and devotion to the proper place with God. The 6th through 10th Commandments seem to me to be God orienting you to your proper place with others: Don’t end a life God created for your own gain (Life is valuable), Don’t damage your own sexuality (Your body is valuable), Don’t take the labor that isn’t your own (Your work is valuable), Don’t lie (The Truth is valuable), Don’t desire things that are not yours (The Devotion of your Heart is valuable).

If adult children have the first five in place and their is an order, then they cannot deny the second five without having problems with the first five.

  16. George Haithcock says:

The same because I had daughter that was treating her crippled mom bad. I told her she wold not get away with that. In fact I told her I did not see her living to be 60. This past July she died of a heart attack at 41 years old

  17. Shane Johnson says:

The same way .. Respect honor … Only children grown and out of the home make thier own decisions … They should keep a careful ear to thier parents wisdom of a longer life in respect and consideration .. But as soon as they are out from under the headship of the home .. It is time for them to make thier own mistakes and be responsible adults …without direct authority of thier parents
