Can someone explain why the genealogy written by Matthew differs than the one Lucas wrote?

Because Matthew goes by the lineage of Joseph and Luke by Mary’s.

Unless Joseph had two fathers (which he didn’t) then the Greek in Luke is to be read as an ellipsis, and Mary is of Heli.

In Matthew it was the genealogy of Joseph while in Luke the genealogy of mary

Matthews writing is designed to convince Jews that Jesus is the Messiah and King in the lineage of David. Since God promised this to Abraham that he will be the father of kings ends his geneology there. He now must go through Joseph who is in the lineage of David through Solomon the King.
Luke on the other side having been a Greek paid attention to individual personalities of a person. He begins to access Jesus as a perfect man who comes from Adam. To establish this must go through the physical birth of the mother to Adam. He traces His lineage through Mary and Nathan the son of David. He proves Jesus is both a perfect God and perfect man.

Matthews is the genealogy of Jesus to Abraham. Lucas’ is that of Luke Skywalker.

I honestly view this as a general overview, not a specific view of the lineage of Christ. I think this is apparent in the scriptures. Matthew takes the time to make note of the direct and detailed lineage of Christ, while this is NOT Luke’s attempt at all.
