1. You are making an assumption as to what Judas’ intention for stealing was and then comparing it with giving tithes.

2. There is no such thing as a Prosperity Gospel. This is a derogatory term from those that are against the teaching that God does provide for us as believers.

3. Tithing actually makes sure that our heart is connected to God.
Disclaimer: There are actually 3 types of tithing mentioned in the law although that tithing was established outside of the law. One of the types required giving to the orphan, the widow and the hopeless. The same things that James says are TRUE religion.
4. If you attend a church that just takes your money then you’d have to check your heart to see why you even attend there to begin with.

Our church has purchased a van for the pregnancy center, funds 3 women’s shelters along with other churches and missionaries to various places…that doesn’t count the normal church bills…my small tithe seems so small but it helps..I do it for the glory of God…
Are you suggesting that churches do not have bills and that if a pastor takes a salary he is serving money? There is no logic in that case and poor exegesis, so I hope I am misunderstanding. Additionally, a church requiring money and people giving for the function of the church are two wildly differently discussions.
I do think the churches need to keep the doors open , they pay rent, or are buying. Lights needs to be on. Gas and Electric need to be on. Upkeep: painting. hand towels and t-paper in the bathrooms. lawns mowed. This all takes money. Then we get into giving for missions that your chuchs supports. Pastor and secretary salaries. So many more thing. I do not think Pastors should buy airplanes and very expensive home on the givers money. They should live like the rest of the people do.

I used to have similar thoughts until I volunteered on my church’s finance team and learned what it costs to keep the doors open. In this world, church buildings need money to operate. It’s a fact of life.

This is just someone who is twisting The Word. I come from a family of pastors and ministers, they don’t get a salary from the church, because they would rather have the church bills be paid first, then whatever is left over they get. You don’t know the first thing about what they go through to make sure that the word of God is heard, and to be able to shepherd people, the calls in the middle of night they get because someone needs prayer and intercession. The fact that they have to take time out of their own family to be able to tend to others. It’s a hard job. Don’t take it for granted.

We get a monthly statement showing where every penny goes…what kind of Christian are you when you call churches thieves and robbers….Paul and the apostles, disciples got support from their fellow members…people sold everything they had to help the early church…..you have read about Ananias and Sapphira who kept back proceeds from their property from the apostle Peter….

The pastor needs to have a reasonable income. The building uses utilities that have to be paid. Building maintenance costs. Many churches sponsor missionaries. After the Easter tornadoes here in Mississippi, many churches fed, clothed and housed victims who lost a little or a lot. We joyfully tithe, contribute and donate to our body. If your “church” isn’t a working part of the community, it’s DEAD!
And how do you expect the church to continue to operate without funding? I want my pastor to be a pastor. Not have to work another job to keep the Bill’s paid at church. I want him to be able to concentrate on God’s Word and being my shepard. Not being tired from working all day and trying to prepare sermons.
For everyone that’s saying tithing is wrong, how many of you are pastors? Or staff? Second how should the church pay the pastor and the Bill’s such as mortgage, electric, water etc? While I do think many churches abuse their finances, and those millionaire pastor should not be. But Bill’s have to be paid, pastors have to be paid.
We are the church. We are giving to pay the bills. Having a church is not cheap. God told us to give 10% of our income either way. Sure, he doesn’t need it, but he wants it, which is all that matters. Our sensitive opinions do not work on God lol.
Pretty sure the church needs an income to fund mission trips and giving to the poor as well as any other charity service they offer. Also how else is a pastor going to make a living? Their families need to eat too. How is the church to pay for cleaning, toilet paper, paper towels, bibles, etc if not through tithes? I’m not a pastor nor is anyone in my family.
My church is not taking money from me through tithes. I am returning to God a portion of the money He gave me through tithes.
This is Anti-Christian and anti biblical
