Out Of My Mind
I can’t get the scenes
Out of my mind.
They play over and over again,
Controlling my emotions
Like a slick TV preacher
Playing the heartstrings of a poor, elderly widow.
Every time I think I’ve won,
One sobering memory brings me to my knees
In painful convulsing.
The scene so vivid it takes my breath away,
Causing my legs to give
To the dead weight of my wretched body.
I can’t get the scenes
Out of my mind.
They play over and over again.
