Lukewarm Living
“I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I am going to vomit you out of My mouth.” - Revelation 3:15-16
Before reading this, I challenge you to read this with an open heart. Hear me out, please. I am not writing this to be another person that is pointing a finger at you. I am writing this, because I am pointing my finger at myself.
Do you enjoy lukewarm coffee? I sure don’t. Are you one of those people that gets up in the morning, makes your coffee, goes to get ready, and when you get back, the coffee you have made and poured into your coffee mug is now lukewarm, BUT you still decide to drink it, because you don’t want to a) waste it…b) you know it will still somewhat help you wake up…or c) both.
Is that you spiritually? Do you get up every morning, do your same routine, and know all your doing is being lukewarm? I’ve been there. We get ready in our houses that have A/C and heating units. We put on our nice button up shirts, get in our almost paid off car, drive to work, sit at work, do your thing, go home, kiss your wife, thank her for dinner, go to bed, and do the same thing again the next day. And the sad thing about this, is that we think we are being a “good Christian” when really we are doing nothing for the Kingdom of God. We have no idea how good we have it. Yes, our world is falling apart. Sin is bad today, just like it was back in Jesus’ day, but let’s push that aside for a moment and focus on one thing today: yourself.
If we spent half as much of our time praying, instead of worrying about what other people are doing, our world would be different. I really wish that we, as Christians, would get to a place spiritually to where we don’t judge those going to the altars. I’m going to be honest, that’s why most people don’t go to the altar anymore, because they are afraid that someone will judge them and say, “well, I wonder what they did this week that is drawing them to the altar?” That’s pathetic! When has going to the altar ever been a negative? NEVER! God told people in the Old Testament EVERY SINGLE DAY to make an altar, sacrifice something as an offering to the Lord, but now, God sent His one and only Son to be the ultimate sacrifice, so that we can go to the altar any time and give what we have to God!
We go through our check list lives, spending zero time in prayer and devotion to God, that we go through out our day thinking that we have it all together and the sad thing is, is we don’t. On the outside, we are perfect. We go to church, we raise our hands twice every song the music pastor sings, we hear the sermon that the pastor has to preach, and then we sit in our chairs during church on our cell phones, talking to one another while people are in the altar being delivered from their sin and making new covenants with the Almighty Father.
I am asking you, as you read this, to put down the judging gavel and pick up the Word of God. Learn that there is no love outside of Jesus. Understand that He is the ONLY way! Seek Him with your whole heart…stop worrying about what the person beside you is doing, and start worrying about your own relationship with Jesus. We need to get out of this lukewarm lifestyle, because in the end, God is clear when He says, “I will chew you up and vomit you out of My mouth” (Revelation 3:16). You were made for a time such as this! You were made to be in unity with one another. You were made to go into all the world and make disciples. You were made for MORE!
