Our life, character and self-image are reflected by our apparel and mode of dress. The admonition of Scripture, “Be not conformed to this world,” reminds us that our manner of dress must be modest and decent (Romans 12:2; 1 Thessalonians 5:22, 23). It is not displeasing to God for us to dress well and be well groomed. However, above all we must seek spiritual beauty, which does not come from outward adornment with jewelry, expensive clothes or cosmetics, but from good works, chaste conversation, and a meek and quiet spirit (Philippians 4:8; 1 Peter 3:3-5). – statement from the COG Practical teachings

notice this phrase: However, above all we must seek spiritual beauty, which does not come from outward adornment with jewelry, expensive clothes or cosmetics, but from good works, chaste conversation, and a meek and quiet spirit.

1) Spiritual beauty does not come from…jewelry, expensive clothes or cosmetics.
2) (Spiritual beauty) comes from good works, chaste conversation, and a meek and quiet spirit.

Clearly this statement is a wide departure from the teachings of 30 years ago. It is an open ended statement condoning the wearing of adornment that is excessive and expensive.

It is deceptive in that it teaches a new legalism loosely defined illusive description and that these descriptions are the source of our spiritual beauty.

This is rank deception and a wide departure from the Church of Declaration of Faith. This teaching necessitates an eventual change of the faith declared by the church.

Costly apparel….
My watch costed $100 – and has to have batteries replaced or the watch replaced every few years.
My wedding band costed me $69 23 years ago. (And the same for my wife).
Most people don’t like my ring but love my watch.
LoL. I find that funny, sad, and hilarious.
Biased, ignorant, judgemental they are.
I love when people show who they truly are, and what they truly are.

You compare our sanctification to the standards of the Church of God of yesterday.
BUT
was their standard biblical.?.

I had family members that looked and for the most part lived the part of ole’ time “holiness”.
But they loved their soap operas.
Soap operas that showed adultery, fornication, etc. So-on, so forth. …

I read this scripture;
Romans 1:32
Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

Those watching with pleasure are going to receive the same judgement as those doing it…

So brother, what say you?

the terrible implication of the new COG is that they believe the old COG taught that not wearing…jewelry, expensive clothes or cosmetics was the source of spiritual beauty.

But that is a false notion – holiness emanates from a sanctified life. A work of grace that is subsequent to the new birth. Holiness results from sanctification; faith of the believer in the word and a cooperative work of God in the heart.

That has not changed though the COG departs from that.

True holiness and sanctification….comes from the inside of believer..its the unseen work of the Holy Spirit reflected in the believers character…This affects the believers motives and way of outward dressing…
