A FASCIST EXAMPLE (editorial of the COG Evangel July 26,1941)

CHRISTIANS should be patriotic and in that love of patriotism work in every way possible to make their country the greatest country on earth. Especially is it true that the citizens of the United States of America have a right to boast in that wonderful government and freedom that God has given them, but it must be remembered that our government was founded by religious men and women who were driven by the spirit of intolerance from the shores of other countries and wandered across the great expanse of the Atlantic to found a land where they could worship God according to the dictates of their conscience, thus it has been that this wonderful nation has been referred to as Christian America and her Christian ideals have been greatly exalted, but it must be remembered that because a nation started right and’ was founded upon Christian ideals, it is not immune to a drifting away from ·those ideals. It is certainly clearly disclosed or made manifest by the newspaper advertisements, the signs on the highway, the roadhouses that line our thoroughfares, the looseness and nudeness which is condoned by the societies of our fair land, that the nation as a whole is not Christian.

A law passed in Florence, Italy, takes a stab at our American looseness. We quote from the Pathfinder of July 12: “Women in Florence, Italy, have been warned by police that they will be fined if they appear in shorts or slacks.
‘This stupid Hollywood style must be curbed,’ said the local press.” Such a statement coming from such a nation should cause us to hang our heads in shame that we have to accept their dress morals as superior to ours. Real
Christianity, good, old time religion will correct every problem affecting the life, manner ofdress, and general behavior of those who have accepted it.
