Anybody have in thoughts about what Jesus wrote on the ground in John 8:6-8?

Have no idea and it doesn’t matter. If God did not reveal it why make something up

The closest estimate or explanation I’ve come to is something a very wise man told me He said that it may have been the sins of the Pharisees that were standing there accusing the adulterous woman.
however it seems plainly obvious that it was left out of the scripture for a reason. -

Yes. But none of them are revealed in scripture and therefore useless.

Some suggest, where is the man? If she was caught in the act both must be stoned. Other might be , stone her to death, if you are wrong you committed murder. The main reason we don’t know is this is why he came to forgive all sin except blasphemy against the Holy Ghost

I thought the Law commanding her to be stoned, but I like “where is the man” a lot better.

I always wondered if maybe He was writing down the sins of the guys that wanted to stone her!

Johnny Cash thought he might have been writing things like “murderer. Adulterer. Thief…” basically reminding those around him of their sins, in case they forgot. Johnny Cash said it, so I’m inclined to agree.

There’s no way for anyone to know, if that passage even was based on a real event in the first place. Since there’s good reason to think that the pericope adulterae isn’t part of the original text of John such speculation serves no purpose.

Maybe the Ten Commandments to show the stone-throwers that they indeed have sinned

I have heard all of the answers written in the comments. I just had a thought…what if he wrote her name? The men brought her there calling her by her sin. She is written in the Bible as “the adulterous woman”. What if He showed her that He knew her more intimately than that?

Some believe that He was writing the Pharisees names and possibly their sins. This theory is based primarily on Jeremiah 17:13: “Those who depart from Me shall be written in the earth, because they have forsaken the Lord, the fountain of living waters.” In the preceding chapter from John, Jesus spoke of Himself as living water. So perhaps He was fulfilling a prophecy. Others believe it was to demonstrate, as God the Father did when He carved the Ten Commandments with His finger, that Jesus had the authority to issue two new commandments: for us to love one another, as He loved us (John 13:34), and to bear one another’s burdens, as indicated by Paul in Galatians 6:2.
We don’t know for sure what Jesus was writing, nor do we know who saw His message. It’s possible, however, that once the crowd had dispersed and He was left to deal with the woman Himself, He’d written only one other word:
Forgiven.

Perhaps he was writing the names and the dates some of those men had sex with that same lady.

While we have no way of knowing, it is a very interesting idea to ponder. It could have been something from the law, or even one of the prophets, like Micah. Something along the line of Israel prostituting herself with false religions but still God having grace. It could have even been the names and sins of the accusers. What ever it was those guys were shut up and went away.

The law in Leviticus says both men and women are to be stoned when caught in the act, he was writing down that law.

Probably a kist of common sins those holding stones commited. Lust, envy, pride,etc. Thats my guess.
