If anyone believes that baptism is required to get into heaven I have a question. Did the sinner that died beside Jesus make it into heaven? Where in the bible does it say the disciples were actually water baptized? Also, if a new believer gets saved in church, but the water baptism service isn’t for another 2 weeks and that same new believer is killed in a car accident on the way home, are they going to heaven?

Is salvation necessary for baptism?

Definitely not. There is no verse that specifically says it is necessary. It is a work, and that would require doing something, or a good work, to fulfill salvation. It nearly always ACCOMPANIES or COINCIDES WITH BAPTISM. It is never required. If you don’t have any desire to follow God in Baptism, then it’s hard to trust that salvation, because in general, that’s one of the first things a saved person usually does.

If you’re capable of getting baptized, why wouldn’t you want to?
I see this question pop up over and over in many Christian groups and I can’t wrap my mind around why one wouldn’t want to get baptized when Jesus clearly encourages baptism.
