Besides my father my favorite Church of God man is Jack Durham. He and his wife were charter members, 1916, of my home COG in McMinnville, Tennessee. He was the charter clerk for the church, became an evangelist and later became a bishop in the COG. From the beginning he and his wife served as faithful SS teachers. He preached in the surrounding communities and filled in as pastor in the absence of pastors.
His family were involved in the COG and this family produced two well known evangelist, pastors and overseers. Jack and his wife lost an infant son about 1918, lost his wife remarried and then lost his second wife in an auto accident while traveling to Chattanooga for a convention meeting, 1938. In 1940 he married Nora and she continued with Jack as a SS teacher. They were my teachers in the junior grade level.
He was old fashion holiness and as long as he lived he sat on the second row of the left side of the congregation. You always knew Bro Durham was in church and I loved that old man, dearly.
He was not a wealthy man but was rich in holiness.
