Yes. I can choose to believe in elfs and Santa. I can choose to believe anything I want. What is your point, So we can further discuss?

All you can do with any information is reject.
If you started believing there was a bat cave under your house with no information basis, that’s what we call ‘wishful thinking’.If someone showed you blueprints and what looked like a pole you could slide down and explained there was a bat cave, you can only reject that information.

For me believe is being persuaded by evidence.

No. We accept a set of beliefs based hopefully on merit, evident, logically thought out arguments and reason and dare I say it feelings.

Basically yes out of FREEWILL. God is a gentleman… He does not force people to believe in Him but His word and grace is given to all (so faithfully, patiently and lovingly).

When I was young I thought belief was something that happened to you. The older I get the more I feel it is a choice. Faith is when the Lord gives us evidence/proof of that which we choose to believe. This is how we know it is true because we choose to believe and then the Lord ratifies our choice with evidence ?

Yes, but it’s not like flicking a switch, it’s like choosing to exercise.
If you want to believe something, you can gradually adopt that belief

I’ve yet to discover why or how people choose to believe things they can’t verify to be true.
This is one of my primary holdups with becoming a believer. I find it no different than trying to convince myself to believe in Saint Nick.
Not intended to insult those that do, i just don’t understand it.

Yup. You are very much influenced by “nature and nurture” meaning your personal feelings and thoughts along with environment, raising, culture etc. But you are not a robotic automaton. You have free will. The fact that you are asking about choice and free will is what distinguishes is from animals in the sense that we can step outside of ourselves and ask about our own precepts and beliefs. We can get deeply introspective about who we are, what we believe, why we believe it, and where we are going. Mankind is not an animal, we are created in God’s image and have free will.

Pride is the most pervasive sin and one of the deadliest. It keeps God’s spirit from communicating His truth to your heart.
The reason why academia is riddled with atheism it’s because of Pride of the intelligence. They just refused to say “I don’t know” so they make declarations rooted in science and philosophy.
I think we’re all born with the truth written on our heart. The way to Christ is be humble and meek heart.
