Had a discussion with some friends and they raised some questions that I couldn’t really answer..

1. Why does only John include Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead when it is such a core element of what we celebrate as Christians? Would it not be something that all or majority of the gospels would contain even if they only had limited space to write on a scroll?

2. Views on smoking Marijuana , firstly in the case where it is illegal, secondly where it is legal, and if you think it is still wrong when it is legal do you also feel the same way about coffee?

    1. John’s purpose is to show the divinity of Christ through seven sign miracles. The other gospels don’t have that same purpose, so they record different things.

    2. Smoking dope does much worse damage to the mind than caffeine.

    As for #1, great question. It’s not that Lazarus being raised wasn’t an amazing moment, but it’s not a core pillar of our faith. The resurrection of Christ IS, however, and all 4 of the gospels tell of that in detail.
    As far as why only John, I don’t know that it’s significant… The other 3 are called the synoptic gospels and they tell of many details, while John is more focused on the depth of Christ.

    Almost all theologians and Christian historians believe the gospel of John was written last by several years. After the narrative of the resurrection of Lazarus it has mentioned that there was a plot to kill Lazarus two because his resurrection was the most publicly known of the resurrection’s Jesus had done. For the first three Gospels to not mention that might be for a security precaution for his safety as well as that of his sisters.

    When my brother was dying of cancer he used marijuana to try to save his liver from the damage that the pills the doctors were giving him. So it’s a pain killer. No doubt. . I fully understand why my brother took it, and supported him for it. It’s a pain killer.

    But for those who just like to get high my question would be….what pain are YOU trying to kill?

    You’d. Ha e to ask John but the deity of Jesus own resurrection perhaps out shown what he did for Lazarus for this first Christian but time showed ykthe need to bring up the other. Remember John said zjesus did many other things and most likely there is much of what Jesus did is left out.

    It could have been for Lazarus’s the safety, since it mentioned that the Jews wanted to kill him. The other authors do mention Jesus raising other people, like the daughter of Jairus, or the man at his own funeral

    2. In Deuteronomy… sorcery translates from pharmakia (spelling may not be correct). Spirit work is always associated with drugs. We are not to do it. It falls under forbidden sorcery.

    I am not referring to weed used as medication. But if you don’t need to be medicated due to an ailment… you are wanting to achieve a state of mind.

    Each of the four Gospels reveals a different aspect of Jesus. Mathew id’s Him as king. Mark, His servant hood. Luke reveals Him as a man and John reveals His divinity.

    who made “we” God what are u smoking.. “something” what are u drinking -> the same can be said of alcohol, cigarettes -> should a Christians indulge in any of these vices (Romans 1) what does ur Christian say mmmm?

    Smoking is a sin just like breathing any woodfire smoke cloud would be a sin. It pollutes your temple.
    Marijuana is a mind-altering substance. The only proper way to use it would be medicinal. Have you ever heard of Robo-tripping? It’s the abuse of Robitussin. Same idea. Get healed by the power of prayer.

    Much like a car accident happening at a 4 way intersection, with people on all four roads observing the accident.

    The facts are similar yet not the same due to perspective.

    I an another EMT can write an incident report about the same patient, same problem, same vital signs, and give the same treatment, and yet have similar reports, but not the same report.

    Where marijuana is legal, it becomes a matter of whether or not it is profitable for you. Marijuana can be abused, just like anything can. It can also be used responsibly in both the medicinal and recreational sense. Whether you should indulge or not depends on what the Holy Spirit says to you. And, as always, if you do partake, do not practice your freedom in front of a weaker Brother or Sister if it would cause them to stumble.
