How did God create the solar system before the sun? How did he create plants and trees before the sun, knowing that plants rely on photosynthesis for survival?

God created the sun on the 3rd day to show that He alone is our source of light. Before the sun was created, God Himself was light so we don’t worship the sun.

The gap theory does, indeed work, from my understanding. The gap occurs between verses 1 and 2. The creation as we read it could definitely in fact be a recreation. When God creates, He said it was good. He won’t create something without form and void. Something happened to this world prior to this existence. If you look up the Hebrew, the word “was” is transliterated as “became”. The world had become without form and void”.
The 6 days are indeed literal. The gap appeared prior to the written Day 1 of what we read.
Here is something interesting I just now happened upon looking at that chapter.
The word “created” only applies to the heavens and the earth in verse 1, the creatures that live and move, and man.
Everything else says “God made”. Looking up “made” in the Hebrew says nothing about creation which actually implies that these other things had already existed before, but had been hidden, perhaps. Which is what the firmaments would have accomplished concerning the stars and planets, and the water blocking out all light from what God had previously “created”.
We cannot keep God in our own little box of thinking. He is so much greater than our finite minds. His statement and promise of not destroying the world by flood again, could also imply that it wasn’t the first time he had done it with Noah.
The falling of the angels in Revelation possibly happened before Day 1 as we know it and their evil very well may have been the reason for the destruction in verse 2. After all, Satan is called in the Bible “the god of this world”.
Language is EVERYTHING when studying the Word of God. Even the simplest words like “was” and “made” do not translate to what we think they mean according to usage in our society. Language evolves. We must always go back to the original Hebrew and Greek to keep it all in context. If we lose context, we lose everything.
Phew. Sorry for the novel. I hope this was helpful and insightful enough to force us all to dig deeper into God’s Word.

Biblical creation narratives are myths. Not necessarily in correct order as per day. But rather quantum evolutionary creation processes. People suggesting a new earth creation might be correct but only in the sense of a new transformative earth out of an old earth by climate, cataclysmic and apocalyptic changes, eg. Last ice age about 12 000 years ago.

For questions why and how. I have found myself getting frustrated. Trying to understand certain things beyond my understanding. Bottom line. He is God and will do whatever pleases Him. Just my 2 cents.

Actually if you get the correct initial conditions of early earth (darkness on the surface – water world) and the proper frame of reference (the surface of the earth not outer space) then the Genesis account becomes 100 percent consistent with modern science.

Ah no not really mentioned that way in the Bible. But Sure God could have supplied the light supernaturally if he wanted to. But what does the text say. He created (that is made visible) the light to surface dwellers on earth. The animals would need to see the sun moon and stars one day in order to set their biological clocks. And it was so. The plants on day 3 could live because the sun was created prior to day 1 “in the beginning “

Plants survive in all the time with in the extreme poles for long durations with little light.
Also may I add that by posing the question the way that you did, you are putting limitations on God on his ability to sustain his creation.

The sequence of creation is a reflection of how we are to solely depend on Him, and not depend on the created things to sustain us. By His word, everything came into existence. By His word, everything still thrives today. We, and all things created, cannot exist without Him. Of Him, through Him and to Him are all things (Romans 11:36). -
Gen 1:3 God said let there be light. God’s glory was the light. The next 24 hours or a day he made the sun and the stars.

Everything depends on God not the Sun. In the eternity to come there will be no sun. His glory will illuminate everything

Did you ever try reverting this question to atheism? To what evolved first? For example is we all evolved what part of our cardiac system evolved first? Your heart, your blood or your blood vessels? Because it would not make sense to evolve one if you did not have the other two. This can be applied to almost every part of the human body. I mean why would you evolve a heart if u did not have a brain to control it, yet how would a brain survive without a heart to feed it oxygen. In reality all these things had to come into existence at the same time. But when God can control the 3 Parameters of this universe (time, space and matter) and is not subject to them, truly anything is possible with God

Perhaps the answer you seek (if you are seeking an answer) is found in the last book of the Bible.
“And there will no longer be any night; and they will not have need of the light of a lamp nor the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illumine them; and they will reign forever and ever.”
Revelation 22:5Since there is no need for light from the sun in the future due to God’s illumination being sufficient for all, why would you assume He had to rely on any other source except Himself in the past to create and sustain life?

God supplied the light for the first three days. After that, He created the sun to be the light-bearer from that moment on.

Well I think that God first of all knew that we would come to the conclusions we had about the way solar systems and stars in these kinds of things are formed and he did it in a specific order to show us that we were wrong It just so happens that I have taught physics in college and I can tell you that what we know of gravity does not allow for the formation of stars or planets We know we are wrong we know for sure we are wrong and this is why dark matter is given a name and put out there even though you might as well call it the dark matter unicorn ferry because we have zero evidence that it exists.
So given everything that you think we know about physics is wrong and we know what’s wrong What does that leave you with that leaves you with a great big question mark saying I don’t know how I was created but I know it wasn’t created by gravity We know dirt swirling around and a vacuum does not produce planets or stars as a matter of fact did you know that we have never observed a star in creation and according to the present cosmological theory of the big bank we should see it happening all the time It should be a normal occurrence and s*** happens several times a day as a matter of fact and we should be able to see all of it but we can’t and we don’t It’s never been recorded.
Also taken to account what we know the Bible says to be true We know that God is light and therefore if plants need photosynthesis and God is hovering over the face of deep they have photosynthesis Also if gravity doesn’t have anything to do with the solar system information then God can create the planets and stars in any manner He sees fit It’s absolutely accessible.
finally I want you to stop thinking this as some giant magical God in the sky and start thinking this as advanced physics we don’t understand yet.
corn mechanics is a good example of this there are very strong implications in quantum mechanics that we have far more control over reality than we previously thought It also shows that our essence of being and the way that we think about ourselves changes reality itself and we can do experiments and have done experiments that show this repeated and often You can Google this stuff it gets kind of heavy if you get into the equation stuff but if you’re strong in mathematics and logic then it wouldn’t you shouldn’t have any trouble with it. -

It is a great topic I am just going to sugest not say its doctrine. If we go through what is said God created the heaven and the earth. we need to talk about the heavens plural Paul said he knew a man 14 years ago caught up into the third heaven. So can we make sence of the three heavens:
Lets say one of them is where the glory of God is or Gods abode the one where only angels can be in.
Another heaven is local earths sky atmosphere. Another heaven is outer space. Now we have place each heaven in its proper context. I suggest the one in Gen 1 is Gods abode with the earth no space . The angels can see God directly in his glory. They do not require faith because they see him. Faith is unique to man. The next race “man” will relate to God differently than the angels he will believe in God. But we need an enviorment for that the abode of God will be away from the earth seprated by the firmanant (space). Man wll have a local heaven atmosphere around the earth. Gods glory will be seperated from man. The forth day says its for times and seasons ans God places the sun and moon in the firmament . So the light on the first day could be moral light against the darkness that was already there. -

I know a way simpler explanation guys.
Its because the people who wrote the bible then thought the earth was flat so it made sense to them. Now we know the earth is a globe. It just shows you that the bible was written by men as political propaganda and nothing to do with God. -
God is a living Light. In His presence everything grows. In jeaven, there will be light without a sun. The light itself will be God. God created living things and in His presence, they lived and grew. A sun, made later, carried on a small part of that process.

There was light, not sunlight…but light. Its entirely possible that this first light was even better for plant life than sunlight. There is so much we dont know about what we do know.

Daniel, the state of the Hebrew verb indicates that the sun and the moon had been created at an earlier time, probably day one. Also note Genesis 2:1-5 that there was a time, long before man, even prior to the water cycle, that there was no vegetation. This is a description of the primordial earth. Ultimately, there really is no reason to think Moses got it wrong.

So God made the earth and he was just holding it in his hands in space and light was coming out of him as he was holding it, that’s why there was light on earth. Then he made the trees and plants, then after he went back to finish the rest of the universe? So he created the earth and he created the universe around our earth afterwards? One day or 1000 years after? And trees could survive because they could photosynthesize from God light?

I think the simpler explanation is that the people who wrote the Torah thousands of years ago didn’t know about heliocentricism and they thought the earth was flat in the middle of the universe and not moving, and they thought that the sun was just a small light on the dome. It’s just shows you that the bible was written by men with their ideas and nothing to do with an invisible God.?

Day two – separate the heavens from the earth
Day three – flowers plants and trees
Day four – sun moon stars
Day five – birds and fish
Day six – animals and manIn my opinion the plants and trees could survive a day without the sun. But you have to believe in the literally seven day creation account to believe that. And who is to say that trees would have really needed the sun had it not been for the fall of man. All creation groans because God no longer walks among us. Just some thoughts.

It’s a matter of timing, before the sun was individually visible the earth was already being irradiated. Thus light was visible, before the sun became the dominant source.
This is only possible if the creation account is metaphoric, and based on an unlimited time. ie eternal God, as opposed to a literal 6 day creation -

When you buy a car you get a Users manual telling you basic things needed to operate the car. If the car breaks down the Users manual does tell you how to fix it, for that you need an extremely detailed Workshop manual.
The bible is the Users manual given to us. God keeps the workshop manual for Himself.
The book of Genesis and Revelation are the two most contested books in the bible because people try to read them as a workshop manual when they are not.
Jesus refers to Moses as writing Genesis.
Moses was around 1500 bc. Creation took place thousands upon thousands of years before. This is not an eye witness account.
His job was to bring 600,000 slaves out of Egypt. These slaves needed to be told about this God who was delivering them from captivity.
The Egyptians and surrounding nations worshiped countless gods including the sun, the moon and the stars.
Moses in telling them the creation story was telling these Hebrew slaves that the God they were to follow created all these inanimate things that were worshipped as gods by everybody else.
Moses whole focus is revealing who God is not the technical Worshop manual details of how He did it.
It is meant to give us a spiritual understanding of just how mighty and great God is, not a scientific intellectual understanding of how He did it.
