HAS ANYONE EVER WONDERED ABOUT THOSE MINISTERS WHO USE TO BELONG TO THE CHURCH OF GOD, BUT ARE NOW INDEPENDENT? I think the CoG denomination might should look into this matter. Perhaps it would give their leadership a better understanding of their ministers, and who knows, it just might bring some of these pastors back into the organization.

A few weeks ago, I preached at the Maranatha Christian Center for our good friends, Pastor Art Kennard and his wife Susan Kennard. Bro & Sister Kennard both use to belong to the CoG (Cleveland, TN) denomination where Bro Kennard served as an Ordained Minister. Now they are basically independent, even though they both still believe in, and adhere to the teachings of the CoG. It is amazing how many ministers across America, and even around the world, use to be ministers in the CoG. Bro & Sister Kennard now pastor the lovely Maranatha Christian Center, which Bro Kennard constructed, located on State Route 62, just a few miles north of Shelby, Ohio, and closer yet to the local CoG where he once pastored for many years. Bro Kennard is also an Alumni of Lee College in Cleveland, TN. No offence taken and none intended…..But if you are a loyal Church of God member, I would invite you to go by and visit the local Church of God instead, which according to this post is just down the street.

But Bro Earl Ray Stinson, my thought is the CoG should ask themselves a question as to why they are losing so many CoG ministers, many of whom were raised in the CoG, attended Lee, and were Ordained into the ministry? MCC is a great congregation, again, mostly who were CoG.

I understand the premise of your post and it is legitimate. I do not believe however, me attending their church is going to bring all the CoG ministers back into the fold. It would be nice but we’ve got as much chance of that as Hillary being a good president.

Earl Ray Stinson, You attending MCC will not bring anyone into the CoG because you were never part of the issue as to why these people left. What I am posting is the fact that many CoG ministers have resigned from the CoG denomination, and if the CoG is to close its back door, then first of all, they should ask themselves, Why is is open? What must be done to retain CoG ministers/members?

These are pertinent questions. But I would recommend our people attend our own….their own….denomination. The two are separate issues. Though I agree totally with your first purpose I disagree with your second issue of where you should show your loyalties. I’m done. Thank you for letting me speak. God bless you and I certainly hope the Church of God listens to your FIRST intent, but not your second.

Let’s think about this. If your congregation starts a COG denomination organization, who gets the building? And exactly how much support does the COG (Cleveland) give to the typical church planter? Where is the incentive to be COG (Cleveland) beyond heritage or ‘brand loyalty.’ There is no Biblical mandate. The COG denomination stopped believing it was THE Church of God a long time ago.
