“He who OVERCOMES shall be clothed in white garmets, and…

“He who OVERCOMES shall be clothed in white garmets, and I will not blot out his name from the BOOK of LIFE; but I will Confess his name before My Father and before His angels.” Rev. 3:5

Why “overcome” if my name CAN’T be blotted given that I can’t lose salvation??

I mean, once its written in the BOOK its written for good and forever, right?

So not being blotted out from the Book of Life is contingent on overcoming? Is contingent on enduring? But how so if I CAN’T lose my salvation?? Whether I endure or not, since my name IS written in the Book, why would Jesus have to make a threat to blot out a name if He can’t (I speak as a man)??

But we’re given a clue in Rev. 2:23…..”And I will give to each one of you according to your works.”

Why not according to my faith?
Or according to His abundant grace?

Because without works faith is dead and grace is nullified……

Prove me wrong??

    James 2:10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.2:11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.2:12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.2:13 For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.2:14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
    Notice in v14 the word “say” as in, saying “I’m a Christian” but doesn’t have a faith that produces works.

    We are not saved BY good works, we are saved FOR good works.

    Eph 2:8-10
    2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:2:9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.2:10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

    I wondered about this passage too, from a little different view. My question is: Is everyone’s name listed in the Book of Life, to start with, and only removed if they do not overcome (follow Jesus)?

    1. Jesus said he has a God.

    John 20:17
    Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”

    2. The apostle Paul said that Jesus has a God.

    Ephesians 1:3
    Blessed be the God and father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

    3. The apostle Peter said that Jesus has a God.

    Jesus said that God is greater than himself.

    John 14:28

    Jesus and God had different “wills”

    Luke 22:42
    “Father, if it is Your will, take this cup away from Me; nevertheless not My will, but Yours, be done.”

    At the end, Jesus will be placed under subjection to God.

    1 Cor.15:24
    24Then the end will come, when He hands over the kingdom to God the Father…

    1 Cor.15:28
    28And when all things have been subjected to Him, then the Son Himself will be made subject to Him who put all things under Him, so that God may be all in all.

    Jesus prayed often. To whom did he pray? Himself?

    Who was speaking from heaven and said, “this is my beloved son in whom I am well pleased” at the baptism of Jesus?

    We overcome by the Blood of Jesus and the Power of our Testimony. The overcome is a continual process not a one and done thing.

    If salvation is based on performance, then Jesus death on the cross accomplished nothing.
