Hi,
I would like some clarification on spiritual parenthood. Whilst I understand the need for discipleship I don’t understand the idolisation of spiritual parents. We are currently seeing churches take that and run in a way that that the head pastor (aka prophet) is consider “THE” father for entire congregation. Where is the line drawn between mentor and pseudo high preist? Isn’t the role of the shepard to serve not be served?! Especially in this age of false prophets and the lot. Would appreciate sincere feedback.

We have a good model in Paul and also in John the Apostle. Both spoke of spiritual fatherhood but it was always in the context of the gospel as a message of both kinship and kingdom and not about their own persons intrinsically. That is unlike the context of Matthew 23:9 when Jesus said call no man father. Jesus was emphasizing a wrong in making ones self as the end all- – be all in spiritual fatherhood in their own merits.

The Commandment to honor ones father and mother is considered the foundation of government. But humans often take good things and turn them bad. The church anfd flock image as well as shepherd and pastor as proper images though parent mhood and choachhood are not out of the question. The submission is always both ways and based on mutual love under Christ

Each Church in the Bible is Independent ran.
Head Pastor term is not used. But its what Timothy was.
There is people that Believe New Testament Churches had Moses style leadership. Southern Baptists and Independent Baptists do this usually.
(There is votes too. But voice or raise your hand.There is people that believe in a council of Elders. Presbyterians do that. Some Southern Baptist Churches do that.
There is a 3 belief too.

The idolization of spiritual leaders is unbiblical because God tells us we are NOT to have idols. Of any sort. Period. Philippians 2:12 tells us that each of us is to work out our salvation with fear and trembling. Each of us will stand accountable to God for ourselves, so we should never let ANY pastor/preacher/shepherd/mentor take such priority in our life that what they say is considered scriptural. Always, always, always check everything you are taught/told to the standard set in the Bible. This way, no false teacher will ever get his hooks in you.

I would leave the church. We are called to worship God not man.

The role of a Pastor is to equip the Saints for ministry. Anything beyond that is out of bounds.
