I have a friend who says he believes in the Bible but says science has proved millions of years. He says he believes in the Bible yet thinks God is okay with homosexuality regardless of what the Bible says because when those things were written “humans didn’t understand sexuality like they do today.” He says he believes in the Bible but it completely okay with people changing sexes if they were “born as the wrong gender.” The list goes on.
I’ve had multiple discussions and can never seem to get through. He married a very very liberal woman so I think she’s been a huge influence on him in the wrong direction. Do any of you have anyone similar in your life and what is your approach?

I agree with your friend, but don’t really feel like arguing, so whatever

  2. Jacquelyn Kourtney Austin says:

Pretty typical battle after children are raised up for 12 years in secular compulsory education – they are conflicted with ‘the world’ and ‘christianity’ .. so they settle for a little of both instead of Christ.

  3. Ethan Lee says:

Yes… same situation. At this point we don’t discuss it anymore because neither of us is changing our stance.

  4. John Christian Esparagoza says:

By prayer and always think “What would Jesus do?”

Still love your friend, with gentleness, self control and you’ll find answers in your devos hihihihi

    Praying also bruu

  5. T.W. Haragos says:

I’d be ok with an old earth, which is Biblical. Everything else isn’t.

  6. Jacquelyn Kourtney Austin says:

Ultimately he doesn’t fear the God of the Bible and take council from the Truth of His Word. He does not see the Holy Writ as Truth. He rather believe man more than God, or at least compromise on a few wise words from God and hold close the things of this world

  7. Chuck Relyea says:

Your friend does not believe the Bible…A double minded man is unstable in all his ways. Love em!

  8. Bariane Lozano says:

God loves us so much and he “accepted” us even if we are sinners but it does not mean he is “approving” our sinful ways or any sin we do today. God bless you

  9. Julius Aquino says:

Share the truth from the Word of God and leave it to the Holy Spirit to do the teaching

  10. Jeffrey Torres says:

Ask him, “by what standard do you believe those things?”
It’s going to come down to he’s playing god..it always does.
    That nullifies his opinions.

  11. Johnathon Morris says:

Square inverse law proves otherwise and also the second law of thermodynamics. Check out kent hovinds study on the topic of the age

  12. Ashley Moore says:

If you hate God’s word, it’s a sure sign that you hate the God of the word.

  13. Carlos Sotelo says:

The terms “liberal” and “Christian” do not go together, especially when the term “liberal” is used in regards to social justice and politics. Sorry, but your friend may claim to believe the Bible but your friend clearly does not agree with any part of it. Your friend is consumed by the heart of satan for professing to not believe in and accept the truth of the Gospel.

  14. Ben Incoll says:

If God is ok with sexual immorality then why are they not allowed in the kingdom of heaven ?

  15. Jay Zeke Malakai says:

As an ex-gay, I believe I might have the answer. Put simply, to make him zealous, show him how he isn’t. I was ticked off when atheists not only knew the Bible better than me, but rejoiced in how much I wasn’t following it. It was as if the devil himself was telling me “I may not be able to keep you out of Heaven, but at least I can keep you from living like Hell”. So I decided “nope, God’s got me, I might as well act like I’ve got Him”.

The liberal wife might be an issue, but in the end, it depends on how true his faith is. If he’s a true Christian, he’ll grow, even if it means she divorces him. If not, she’ll make him apostatise. You may need to witness to him as if he’s an atheist.

  16. Gregory Kayko says:

God is the same today tomorrow and forever.

  17. Anthony R. Vacanti says:

If someone says, “I believe the Bible, but…” then they don’t believe the Bible.

  18. Andrea Rodden says:

God could be working on your friend. Pray for wisdom if God has something for you to share with him. God has used many friends in my life to show me truth. When I was a brand new Christian I had many beliefs that didn’t line up with the word. Also, he could be praying about it for himself. I’m still not sure on young vs. old earth but I come to God with my questions and believe that I seek Him with my whole heart I will find Him. God can handle all of our questions. It’s ok to have them and still believe despite them. What I completely disagree with is that because your friend believes this way that his heart is consumed by satan. No. The Holy Spirit leads us all to truth. I do not believe because you aren’t sure about something that your heart is consumed by satan. God’s chosen people were works in progress. They were flawed. I think anyone who thinks they have arrived hasn’t I know God is making me to be more Christ like every day I search for him and turn my life to him. Now, I probably wouldn’t go to this particular friend and ask for biblical advice. But I wouldn’t write him off either.

  19. Mark Anthony Holland says:

Wait how is the millions of years thing and homosexuality even remotely comparable? Also definitely not a young earth Christian but regardless the age of the earth is COMPLETELY irrelevant to Christ’s teachings and what He did for us

  20. Slaven Radic says:

If he considers that the Bible is the Word of God, and if human writers were inspired by the Holy Spirit and basically wrote as they were inspired, would that change your friend’s opinion? But before you ask that, look to build on commonalities first.

  21. Angi Barber says:

I also said those things and still have a difficult time..
Focus on the fact that he believes in Christ our Lord. He belives in God or creator. You telling him what the bible says on these topics is not helpful right now. Ask him to do a weekly study on a book of the bible and just read a few passages and read the study notes and discuss it in very small bite size peices. Allow God to reveal to him truths in His time.

  22. Andrew White says:

The Bible claims to be revelation from God. It is fulfilled Bible prophecy that is presented as God’s evidence.
Isaiah 41:21-23 Produce your cause, saith the LORD; bring forth your strong reasons, saith the King of Jacob.
Let them bring them forth, and shew us what shall happen: let them shew the former things, what they be, that we may consider them, and know the latter end of them; or declare us things for to come.
Shew the things that are to come hereafter, that we may know that ye are gods: yea, do good, or do evil, that we may be dismayed, and behold it together.
    EXAMINE THE EVIDENCE
    TYRE
    BABYLON
    ASSYRIA
    ISRAEL
    CHRIST

i did and had to accept the Bible as Divine revelation. I may personally feel uncomfortable about some of the truth God teaches us. But if I truly believe in God and his word then I now I’m humility and acceptance.
You have to examine the evidence, hopefully then you will have convictions that will carry you through along with the love of God and friends .

  23. Emmanuel Scott says:

For someone that claims he believes the Bible, let him know he is breaking the first commandment: Idolatry. He has created his own god to fit his own views and feelings even though the Bible, which is the standard, says differently. Let him know that he is a false convert and he doesn’t know God at all. That he is at emnity with God and erge him to repent and truly follow Christ. Believing scripture wholeheartedly.

  24. Carl Moulton says:

Just ask them what exactly they believe in the Bible. Let them answer and hopefully listen to themself.

  25. Seth Iris says:

Born as the wrong gender? God doesnt make mistakes. God clearly despise homosexuality. Its a curse as i understand romans 1:26-27.
And God have warning in leviticus 18:22 and somewhere in jude 7…

Now, have he seen these? If he does and still think the same, even didnt consider these words as a decree or law of God, we have a problem.
Male and female, He created them. Not male and female and male in wrong gender or female in wrong gender.
My view of it is confusion in love. They take the affection of love as just one thing. But the bible clearly has 4 types of love: family love, friendly love, romantic love, and Godly love. They confuse brotherly or friendly love as romantic love because they take love as just romantic love.
In John 21, Jesus asks Peter if he agape (love of God) Jesus three times. And three times Peter answered fileo (love of friend).
Thats what they are confused with, maybe.

  26. Reese Mizrahi says:

Scientists can’t prove millions of years at all. It called a theory for a reason. They have shown proof to the contrary. Look up how they found dinosaur bones with material matter they admit can’t last even for thousands of years.

  27. Madison Willoughby says:

Yes, I’ve talked with more than one and it is useless. They are so deceived. It’s heartbreaking, but ultimately they get to choose for themselves to deny Jesus just as you chose to accept Him.

  28. John Delmore says:

Perhaps take the beam out of your own eye before you worry about someone else’s mote. Seriously…he may be wrong in many things, but your job is to be an example of what Christ has done.

  29. Joshua Jenkins says:

I think people forget about Roman and Greek culture, when they say “our homosexuality is different” both if those cultures were incredibly homosexual. They act as if homosexuals have been despised since the dawn of time. It’s not true. Ancient Rome and Greece was full of them, and they were loved! When Paganism died out, homosexuality lost it’s support base.

  30. Ashley Moore says:

You cannot separate God and the Bible. If you say that you believe in God, but also say the Bible was only written by men and not God breathed, you don’t even know the true God. You have created your own ‘g’od that fits your lifestyle.

The Bible is not just a book written by man. It is the directed, inspired, complete, infallible, and inerrant word of God about Jesus the Savior. Reject the Bible, you have rejected the true God of the Bible. You are still at enmity with God and under condemnation. There is no such thing as believing in the true God and rejecting His word. By doing this, you have created an idol, a ‘g’od that doesn’t exist, with absolutely zero saving power.

    Sounds Catholic to me ??

  32. Sandy Robinson says:

It doesn’t matter whether or not humans understood, God understood and He has never changed.

  33. Emanuel Mullen says:

Many people profess in Christianity but rarely possess it.

  34. Charity Creech says:

Science has not proved millions of years. They just have theories just like evolution is a theory.

  35. Kim Churchman says:

Classic case of ‘Be careful whom you marry’, the same thing happened over and over in the Old Testament

  36. Rachel Draker- Rangel says:

A)Is he reading the Bible and studying scripture?
B )Does he love Jesus or does he believe the Bible because he is a cultural Christian?
    C) To believe in the Bible means to believe in the inerrancy of scripture. Sounds like he doesn’t if he picks and chooses what he agrees with.
    D) Pray for him. Suggest books and debates for you to watch together or for him to watch on his own. We can’t know where his heart is but it’s clear he’s confused. If he’s seeking truth be a friend to seek with, if he’s close minded still be a friend but stand firm on Truth when the subject comes up. Good luck.

  37. John J Volk says:

Just love him and his wife and pray for them. Let the Lord straighten them out!

  38. Naathan Lewis says:

“I have a friend who says he believes in the Bible but says science has proved millions of years.”

The Scientific Method is not used to measure historical events. You can’t use Science to prove that George Washington was the first President of the United States. It’s like trying to use a water hose to fry an egg.

Also, God did not make a young universe and then let it naturally age. God created a fully mature universe. He didn’t wait for light to travel billions of light years so you could see the stars. No. The light was already there.

There is plenty of science out there that refutes millions/billions of years, but you’ll never hear it in the mainsteream.

“He says he believes in the Bible yet thinks God is okay with homosexuality regardless of what the Bible says because when those things were written ‘humans didn’t understand sexuality like they do today.'”

God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah on behalf of homosexuality. He makes it very clear that it isn’t something that is acceptable among humankind, much less his own people.

There’s this misconception that ancient people were stupid. No, they were just as intelligent as modern day humans. The technology was different. A genius with stone tools is still a genius. Sexuality isn’t a science anyway, it’s innate. To say we can understand our innate sexuality better than ancient man is arrogant.

“He says he believes in the Bible but it completely okay with people changing sexes if they were “born as the wrong gender.”

Considering it forbids men from wearing anything that even pertains to women and vice versa, I doubt full-blown transvestism is acceptable.

The very situation you described is why believers are not to come in union with unbelievers.

  39. Ruth Magnusson Davis says:

He should read some material from the Creation Science group. They are physicists and scientists who are able to debunk the current wisdom. But when it got down to it, for me, it was pure logic that convinced me that (for example) the theory of evolution was wrong. I would also recommend John MacArthur’s book, In the Beginning (I think that was the title…)

Does he go to life church ? lol

  41. Eric Jewell Hayes Sr says:

    2 Timothy 3:5

  42. Jason Blackshear says:

God is okay with homosexuality just as much as he is with murder, rape, and slavery. He tolerates all of them in this world, the kingdom of the enemy, but WILL NOT tolerate them in His own kingdom.

To declare that reality is wrong and should be subject to our own will, is to declare One’s self of greater understanding of reality than God, rendering God and his design insignificant. All men rebel against God, only those whom submit themselves to His will and subject themselves to His standards will ever understand their rebellion against Him is folly.

  43. Wes De Vries says:

He believes in a god of his own making…

  44. Daniel Finlay says:

So there was no homosexuals back then?
Also letting people hurt themselves because they have a mental illness is just messed up.
    gender dysphoria it’s a thing.
He is cherry picking, because he want to serve a god that’s cool with sin.

  45. Daniel Finlay says:

I guess your friend also believes people are stuck being gay, or trans because they are born that way.
I present to you The Changed Movement

  46. Daniel Finlay says:

pray that God would remove the Spirit of Jezebel out of that woman and off the man.

  47. Greg Logan says:

The real question is whether is heart is sold out to God… And even a bigger one is whether yours is

  48. Markus Ramchiary says:

If he don’t repent I’m afraid suicide spirit may overtake him.

  49. Eleazar Jaring says:

Give him Romans 1:18-28 where homosexuality originated and God not approved it.

  50. Jo Kothenbeutel says:

He believes evolution over the Bible.

Creation was done in 6 literal days.
