I hear this quote a great deal. “Religion has nothing to do with Christianity.”

I get the “relationship” part of the believer however, we each identify as something, Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, Cheeseburgers and/or so forth and so on.

Does religion play a part in your life or not?

  1. No. Religion is based on a set of rules and traditions that are frankly not biblical and cause strife.

  2. If religion has a significance to God then those who aren’t member to a denomination cannot enter to heaven

  3. Yes Jesus abolished religion and introduced relationship. There is no problem to identity your self with Christianity as a religion even if you don’t believe in religion.

  4. James 1:26 “If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless. 27 Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.” (NASB)

  5. James 1:27 KJV Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

  6. Give your definition of religion and perhaps people can give their answers. If you refer to man based attempt to reach God then, no religion has nothing to do with me. If you give the traditional definition that religion is “the belief in and worship of Jesus” then yes. Problem with religion is they try to categorize all religions as being “ok” or leading to God. Only by One can any human being come to the Father in a relationship.

  7. I think many Christians identify with the relationship over religion statement because they define religion as something that involves legalism, ritualism, rules, controls, etc., many of which are man made. Christianity is different than every other faith, and many people lump “religion” all into one category and as such, their definition of religion isn’t really a scripture definition, but a traditional corrupted one.

  8. How does identification equate to religion?

By your statement, we can only assume that atheism is a religion, also.

  9. Religion is man’s attempt to reach God and in true Christianity there is nothing you can do to reach God on your own.

  10. Christians need to read the Bible more.James says true religion is looking after those who need help. stop saying we have no religion and read the Bible.

  11. Mark Fonner people who do not or will not make the connection with religion and Christianity, do so without faith and the definition of “religion”!

  12. Often we use words in their popular sense. That is not always or even often the same meaning they hold in academic circles. Basically “religion” is the study of man’s concepts of the metaphysical such as worldview, presuppositional perspective. Theology is the study of God. The only thing we can know with certitude about God is that which He has chosen to reveal about Himself.

  13. Your suppose to fellowship with other believers and have a relationship with Jesus. You should dedicate everyday to Jesus not just on sunday with rituals and ceremonies. You take the personal relationship out when you pray, praise, and worship like a robot

  14. Some people think calling Christianity a religion is a bad thing but the Bible itself refers to Christianity as a religion.

  15. James 1:27
Pure (True) religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

  16. By definition, “Christianity” is a religion as it is a set of beliefs, doctrines, and rituals centered around a divine Figure. The relationship is due to the born-again experience.
