If God allowed Eve and Adam to eat the forbidden fruit, what was the sense of commanding them not eat the fruit?

not to*
-
Obedience
-
To teach us that disobeying God will lead to death(Rom 15:4).
-
Isaiah 55:9-10 my thoughts are higher than your thoughts and my ways greater than ur ways
-
The introduction of free will.
-
The choice to obey God or not.
-
Free will.
-
The sense is that He could have created obedient drones but He didn’t. He gave us free will….and look what Adam and every one of us did with it. The fault is all ours, not God.
-
To see if they would obey and trust Him.
-
For us to know how important obedience is
-
We have the freedom to choose but we are not free from its consequence.
-
Good question.
-
Do you tell your children “do this, don’t do that” or do you follow them around enforcing wanted behavior and restricting unwanted behavior?
-
God did not “allow” Adam&Eve to eat the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. But God decided for them to exercise their freedom of choice.
-
Free will. Our will of free choice.
‘You want your kid to be a doctor but he wants to be a rockstar’ kinda thing. -
Because love is not love unless the opportunity to not love exists
-
do you have kids? ever told them not to do something and you knew they would anyway? and you allowed them to because they just had to learn the hard way?
-
Are you thinking commandments mean God won’t give you the choice to disobey them?
-
In the first place, God didn’t allow that’s why He warned Adam and Eve not to eat it. They were persuaded by the snake the shrewdest creation of all says the bible.
Always read your bible with an open and teachable heart to have your questions answered.
-
What was the sense? ?
-
What’s the sense of a commandment if disobedience isn’t a possibility?
-
Freewill
-
Have you ever had kids? Did you expect your children to do everything you told them to do? But you told them anyways. Why would you tell them? So they would know what you wanted from them. Telling them also allowed you to punish them when they disobeyed you. it’s no different with God. That’s because this is how he made it to be.
-
God didn’t want a bunch of robots . So He gave us the most important decision of our lives , WE can choose Him or we don’t have too.
Free will to choose or not. He’s given us many , many things like Dominion , Love and sound minds. But He’s respectful and gentle and will not make the choice for us. This life giving choice does have an expiration date , so choose wisely . -
How important and dire it is in the Eternal/Spirit-ual sense …. to know and love God over all.
-
Trust. Ultimately all relationships are based on trust. Satan declared God a liar and Eve believed Satan rather than God after what God provided. So the consequences ensued.
-
GOD has permissive will,as well man chose not to do HIS will due to self emotional manipulation
-
Free will
-
Who told you that God allowed Adan and Eve to eat the fruit of knowledge
-
A dog will be more loyal and sincere to God than what a human can do. The heart madam the heart is filthy.
-
God warns Adam and Eve about fruit from Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. And leaves them the choice to choose. One consequence is death and the other is life. They choose to listen to Satan and consequence is death.
God now gives us another choice to live life eternal if we receive Christ. Or if we choose to reject Him, life condemnation in lake of fire awaits us.
Our God is not tyrannical that you must choose salvation. Choice is given. -
If science says we are from apes and now we are human with emotions then science is trying to make us both human and machine ..do u still trust their findings…as for me science is the devil in desquise ….for ur question adam was not a mortal no in immortal so that condition was their deciding factor to choose wether to remain mortal or immortal..
-
They couldn’t very well claim they didn’t know it was wrong. And that would have been the complaint if God didn’t . For the same reason.we have is law now. When we end up in Hell we can’t. Claim we didn’t know!
-
Where does it say that God allowed it?
-
To test obedience.
-
Within the challenge of free will lies the true test of faith
-
Everything in the perceived universe has a polar opposite z he couldn’t create good and leave it alone without a polar opposite as evil and still expect the universe to obey the same laws so he set the anomalies (the human race) in place and basically gave them the ” I have set life and death before you, choose life as life is good and God is Good” syndrome
-
God did not permit Adam and Eve to eat from the tree of good and evil, He can’t have condemned them and allow them at the same time that would be confusion, and remember God is not the author of confusion, Adam and Eve had freedom/free will, where the Spirit of the Lord is the is freedom!
-
God didn’t allow it was their choice by free will.
-
Free will… didn’t your parents tell you things you weren’t supposed to do, then when you did them, discipline you for it?
-
True love always comes out of free will.
-
To establish God as being Lord.
-
Answer to some questions can be found by searching in Internet…
-
For them to exercise their own fee will in choosing for themselves. No free will+no choice=no responsibility for their sin.
-
Whats the point of this question?
-
choice…. choice is the ultimate sign of love… without a choice there is no love…
-
Why make the tree in the first place.
-
That is all about truth- genuineness.
If someone gives a lady free choice whether to choose him or not and the lady chooses him freely, she has a genuine love for him.
But if he forces her to love him, the choice of the lady will not be genuine but rather fake one.
God is truth, thus He deserves and seeks only true choice out of love from human.
If God forced him in everyway not to choose freely, there wont be any free choice. Therefore the man will only be puppet and God, being the Truth Being, will not get the true choice which is against His nature.
-
That’s free will .. just like we can chose to reject the call of God
-
Free will love choice
-
To give choice of obedience.
-
Because the lamb was slain from the foundation of the World. It was,
It is
And will
Always be about Him. (Jesus the Christ)
knowing that you were not redeemed with perishable things like silver or gold from your futile way of life inherited from your forefathers, but with precious blood, as of a lamb unblemished and spotless, the blood of Christ. For He was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you who through Him are believers in God, who raised Him from the dead and gave Him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
— 1 Peter 1:18-21 -
Why do you tell your children not to touch something hot when you know all along sooner or later they are just going to get burned anywhere and learn the hard way???
-
God allowed? God commanded them not to eat? two opposites clubbed together in a single question. hmm.. interesting
-
Their first words when they get burned is “I should have listened to dad”……
-
if there was no POSSIBILITY to be disobeyed, will there be any Command at all?
-
Free will
-
Deut. 29:29
-
Remember that God created Adam and Eve with His own hands and placed them in a beautiful garden where they could enjoy eating from every kind of tree (Genesis 2:7–9)—except just one. It was God’s gracious way of giving them a fair choice. By trusting God and not eating of the forbidden tree, they would live forever in paradise. By choosing to listen to Satan, they chose to run away from the Source of all life—God—and, naturally, experienced death.
-
Exercising free will
-
To see their obedience, how much they let His word sink in their hearts.
-
We are not compelled to serve him… It’s our free will to choose serving or deviating from him. Eve chosed to eat the fruit, we have our agency that’s just it. Because of our agency (freedom to choose), he will judge with justice
-
Did ever allow them? Which Bible says so?
-
Allow??
-
IT IS THE SAME DICISSION FOR US TO DAY, if God asked his Daughters not to cut their hair and dress modestly care for there homes instead of invading the pulpit. he permits you to chose which is his permissive will, yet he is asking us to keep his word and not take it lightly so as to do his perfect will. but their is a mystery in the fruit in Genesis. Gods children keep Gods word
-
If I tell my child not to jump on the sofa or he will fall down and break his neck, then he go jump on the sofa… did I allow him?
-
Free will
-
Clarkent S. Zeñaby the answers you get will depend on the person’s hermeneutics. Many here have a man centered hermeneutics and center on free will. I have a Christ centered hermeneutics. Therefore, the short answer is the glory of Christ. We would not see the glory of Christ without this sin.
-
Integrity of relationship
-
It was their choice. God does not want robots to serve him. And neither do you.
-
God allowed? It is fake news.
-
They/we had to become personally aware of the evil energy that undermines the universe and the future. God has chosen humankind for such
-
Ask that question to a Calvinist.
-
Free will
-
Free will!
-
Freewill, basically.
-
So that man would suppress the Truth in unrighteousness
-
Excellent question. Here is an excellent answer:
https://4womaninthewilderness.blogspot.com/2013/08/two-trees.html -
That is because of free will…and they chose to eat the forbidden fruit. See what free will can do? Will cause people to sin. Because the only Will that will lead us to perfection is the Will of God. And man’s Will always chooses sin…for men love darkness more than the light (cf. Jn 3:19-20)… for all have sinned and come short of the glory of God (Rom 3:23)… “As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: [11] There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. [12] They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.” (Rom 3:10-12).
And after the fall of man, the only way to receive redemption is by the grace of God. Grace is a gift given by God to have faith to believe in Him (Eph 2:8-10). It is God Himself who enables man to believe in His Son, Jesus, and man has no power on his own to choose God other than the material things on this earth (again, confer with Rom 3:12-13). -
God desired a being that would CHOOSE to love (i.e. agape, self-sacrificing love) Him, so He created man and woman with freewill. In order to meet this objective, in order for it to be a “true choice,” there had to be two distinct things to choose between – because God is interested in things that are TRUE and GENUINE, not pretense. So God created a large and fabulous garden with many wonderful things to eat, loved them, and spent quality time with them. God asked commanded them to not eat from one tree in that garden. To me, it’s equivalent to putting a child in a fabulous amusement park like Disney World, telling the child they can play, ride, eat, do anything they want, as much as they want, and stay as long as they want – as long as they don’t play with one toy in the middle of the amusement park.
-
I tire of man blaming God for actions of man.
-
LOVE, require FREE WILL
-
Secondly, to forbid, meant to declare unlawful
-
Allow means PERMIT.. WHICH MEANT ORDAINED
-
I believe God left the final wiring of mankind, up to mankind itself; free will and a choice, if you will. Would you rather live naively in paradise, without much of a care in the world. Or would you rather know good from evil, become almost god-like, but with repercussions – sickness and death. But in God’s love and plan, we can have it all through believing, and following His Only Begotten Son.
-
GOD TOLD ADAM THIS TREE IN PARTICULAR FASHION IS FORBIDDEN.. that doesn’t mean, one isn’t allowed to partake. I.e. listen/ hearken which is to OBEY
-
He didn’t allow them to eat but they’ve chosen to eat it. They habe chosen to eat the fruits by themselves.
-
Free will
-
And the expectance that they would have the sense He gave them to actually listen.
-
Freewill
-
Why make the tree? Why create the garden? Why design family? Why create anything?
It all came with a purpose and that purpose was that man would know their creator, the power, the love, the perfection, the righteousness, the one who sustains the order of the universe. He can create and he can repair, he can form, shape and mold and He can destroy. We were created and positioned for a view and perspective of this God. Now, what we do with that view and that knowledge is the very purpose the tree was planted and sin was presented. We can know His mercy because we can know our sin. -
It was a test of obedience.God knew they will disobey even before the ate that tree. God is all knowing.
-
In order to have free will there has to be a choice between right and wrong, if there was only a right choice there would be no decision for us to have.
-
Who are we to ask God “why”? We are His creation and not Him our creation. He does according to His will.He is soverein God. Stop asking Him”Why God”….
-
It was their free will to eat or not to eat that forbidden fruit. They chose wrongly. Through one person sin entered the world and through on man -Jesus Christ sin is removed.
-
It is called free will, it is our choice to sin on not to sin, that it is our choice, if God didn’t give us the choice then we would have no option to choose anything for ourselves we would then be robots
-
That’s the problem human, when they choose to do things, they don’t care but when it backfired on them God is first to blame. When they failed exam, it’s lectureral but if they pass ,’ I scole or got it and I pass’. will be the expression. Who are you Mr Man to be blaming God ?
-
Free choice
-
Forced love isn’t love, he wanted a people that would choose him and want a relationship with him, there had to be a choice.
-
Commands can be disobeyed, as they chose to do.
-
When GOD was commanding them he said the day you will eat you shall Die, but the command was they should not eat it. And in the realm of their choice they chose otherwise, GOD allowed their will and this time It was a choice of DISOBEDIENCE.
GOD do not do mistakes his will is always PERFECT. -
Good question … but He knew they would do it … so in the eternal annals God had already set HIS PLAN OF REDEMPTION in place Gen 3 v 15. ?❤️?
-
Free will
-
Do you have children?
-
Obedience
-
Huh? To test their obedience.
-
Freewill, because God wouldn’t command something impossible to do. They could’ve not eaten. We would be in a perfect planet. To say God sovereignly decreed the fall is to make Him the author of sin. Fall of satan or Adam.
-
To the OP: love must include free will
-
read colossians chapter 2
-
That’s because GOD doesn’t force HIS will on anyone. Read Isaiah 1 vs 19, it says if you be willing which means this is my will but you also have your own will to follow. GOD is not a GOD of force, HE gave us choice.
-
Doubt is the problem.
-
God didn’t allowed them the devil tempt them
-
Free will
-
Same as you have free will today to eat the forbidden fruit of sin or not!
-
They needed to fall that He should be the redeemer.
-
Glory
-
I had same challange until I discovered that God builds steadfast love between man and Himself through tests. Proving and Trying is a component of the God and man relationship
-
God is just and holy, He never allow or permitted to rather GOD allowed them make a choice.
-
Freewill my dear Watson
This is clue for you.
Yes for you it is a clue.
Now what shall you do.
Don’t ignore the clue
If you do you’re through -
Free will ….
-
Allowed??
-
FREEWILL
-
The were NOT allowed to eat the fruit of tree of knowledge, but capable, see the difference ?? Make sense now ?
-
Do you have kids? Have you ever given them a direct command but also allowed them the freedom to choose right from wrong?
-
Ive studied this topic extensively and this Great article I found explains it in fully! By Lynette woods. Enjoy! ?

One has nothing to do with the other unless he designed a robot’.
-
Free Will v. Sin
-
God didn’t allowed them to eat, but God give them a free will, He advised them not to eat. But, by their own will they eat, it is not God who let them eat. it is them who lead themselves into this situation
-
God has allowed us to sin. That includes Adam and Eve eating the fruit. That does NOT mean that eating the fruit reflected God’s will for us. God allows man things without it being his will. He allows it though because He loves us enough that He wants us to choose to follow His will.
-
if God made Eden without the forbidden fruits. where is free will there?
-
That’s where Freewill shows up and proved to human beings that they are limited otherwise, they would have claimed that they can do without God, the Maker.
-
He didn’t allow them.
