If Jesus has already died for the forgiveness of everyone’s sins, why do we need to repent or seek forgiveness?

Repenting is the acceptance of salvation. Without it, there is no hope.
-
Here’s a scenario.
When Popeyes had the chicken sandwich, you had to go there to receive it.
Same principle with Salvation. You must go through Christ by repenting (Changing your mind) and seeking forgiveness (changing your heart) to receive it.
-
Jesus’ death, burial, resurrection, provides the Way to life but you must accept it in order to activate the Gift freely provided by Jesus’ suffering for you at the Crucifixion. The pardon from death in sin and death in Hell is not imposed upon you but you must seek it and desire it and ask for it by believing that Jesus Christ is God who died to pay your sin-debt and confess this with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus was resurrected from the dead for your justification; otherwise, you will not enter the promise of salvation to all who believe.

Why do you need to say I love you, provide the stuff she needs and the wedding? You do it in response to her love and in response of His love. You do it because you love you love to show the whole world the love given to you. You do it because you’re letting your wife know what she means to you and you’re doing everything you can to display God’s love through you.

In this pandemic situation, the Govt. has given a form to be fill by every country men who are in need of money to meet their need so that the Govt. can transfer some amount in their account.
Now, the condition is, though it is for every poor people of the country men only those who fill up the form will be credited to their account. The same is in salvation. There is God side and Men side action required.
God side: provide the sacrifice for forgiveness of sin.
Men side: to put our faith in Christ.
So, the death of Christ is not an automated machine for salvation, only those who have put their faith in Christ will be saved.

Because God said so.
-
Very simple,
it’s a ‘gift’
take it,
or leave it.The choice,
is yours.And I’m taking it.
-
Freewill made man not to humble themselves before God…and what is the purpose of your freewill?just to tell yourself that you can able to go against Godwill…because of your freewill you put yourself sovereign than God.

If they prepare your meal at a restaurant why do you have to receive it to have it?
-
Because that Is a false teaching that formed 200-300 years ago, “all you gotta do is believe/pray Jesus in your heart” which is no where in the Bible! True doctrine is that an individual has to WILLINGLY want to know the truth (1Timothy 2:3-4) then not only simply “believe it” but actually “hold” or “abide” in the teachings of Jesus (John 8:31-32)
I do Bible studies with people all over the Nation and the world (different beliefs, cultures etc etc) if you or anyone on this comment section would like, I’d be more than happy to do personal virtual Bible studying? shoot me a PM and let me know! ???

It’s his free gift. You have to accept it. God doesnt force his grace on anyone. Freewill is very important to him.
-
Because God is too loving to force anyone to spend eternity in his presence. Not everyone wants to be saved and God gives us freewill to make that choice while alive.
-
He made the way. We make the choice.

If I offer you a $100 gift card and you reject the gift card, do you have the gift card?
-
To confess ones sins is to accept responsibility for immoral actions and to promise to try to do better to grow closer to the Lord. When we sin we in essence damage our relationship with God, but also with the church. To repent is to clear our conscience and begin to repair the broken relationship within those two.
-
Well simply knowing that water quenches your thirst doesn’t quench your thirst; you have to drink it.
-
He didn’t die for everyone
-
Because if you do not accept a gift given to you, you would NEVER receive it. In order to receive the gift, you first realize that God loves you so much, He gave His Son Christ Jesus. In order to receive the gift, you first acknowledge Him as Lord and Saviour, realize you are a sinner, and repent in order to change, not because it will get you into heaven, but because of love in order to please your Father. Everything we should do is because we want to please Him. That is the kind of the simple reply.
-
Even jesus repented
-
If you are drowning and someone throws you a life-preserver would you not still need to put the life preserver on to prevent yourself from drowning? Same concept.
-
I can leave a gift at your doorstep but you must still accept it and open it
-
Because good people don’t go to Heaven, only forgiven people will inherit the Kingdom of God!
He died only for the ones whom Recognized Him as Lord & Savior -
Only Spiritualy alive can repent
-
It’s not just about forgiveness of sins it’s about becoming BORN AGAIN receiving his Holy Spirit into our hearts so that a new person/ new character is born inside of us. We no longer live for the world but for Christ
-
Any Father would like you to ask for their needs. He is greater than us and His ways are not out ways.
-
This is a great question. A true question of someone who is coming close to God. The more you seek the more you’ll find.
I was going to post a simple response but I see you have a lot who have already responded.
If you are truly saved, you’ll only desire to be with God. In order to have that close relationship you’ll find the word of God will continually keep edify it you and revealing what is sin and what is good. There are many parables that God uses like the 10 virgins, the farmer, oh even the wedding feast. Keep digging and you’ll realize that once someone is truly saved tRey will desire to be holy for God. It’s called sanctification. We become righteous because Jesus died for our sins and we believe. But the other part is sanctification -
In my opinion it’s all about our Lord wanting us to choose for Him in free will. He paid the price; we just have to accept in faith.
-
Why are so many people on here answering but have no idea about jack spit ????! YES ITS ABOUT FORGIVENESS OF SINS HE SAYS “ you MUST be born again of the water and of the spirit to enter into the kingdom of heaven “ AGAIN he says through Peter in acts to REPENT and be baptized everyone of you in the NAME of JESUS CHRIST for the remission of your sins and you will receive the gift of the Holy Ghost “ that’s for all sinners to become saints
There is obviously confusion on what repentance is .. it’s admission of your sins asking for forgiveness repenting in word and in baptism from your heart setting your desires on God it’s a heart change and coming up a NEW CREATION again he says “ Behold See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.” That’s speaking of JESUS CHRIST people you can repent because Jesus died for all admit your guilt fess up because everyone of us are dirty yet everyone of us can be saved ! He DIED for ALL one man That’s God who become a feeble man died took on all sins in one actionable rose again anew as God in visible spirit so we can touch feel and see him as he is Jesus Christ . The Lord and savior
-
He is the way the truth and the life No one can come to the father expect through him.
-
We got to seek for repentance because we sin often
-
The same Word of God that informs us of the sacrifice of the Lamb of God also informs us of his command to repent and believe.
The atonement for sin that Christ’s sacrifice achieved is not passively applied to the individual, but is received only through repentance and faith in Christ:
“Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God.” (John 3:18)
-
Because you sin every day. Jesus says repent daily
-
Well 1st John 1:9 states to confess our sins- in other words agree with God about our sins. He then forgives us and cleanses us from all unrighteousness. Sin was paid at the cross and even those sins we commit after our belief in Him for eternal life are already forgiven. BUT our fellowship with Him is stopped until we confess. 1 John is about fellowship with God.
-
Price of admission
-
Yes He died for everyone but He only saves those who truly repent of their sins and those who are grateful to his redemptive atonement and acknowledging Him as Lord and Saviour of their lives. He spoke to the Jews in His day. You will die in your sin unless you repent of your sins.
-
Really!?!?!? Smh
-
What He has done for all must be recieved by each by faith. The only unforgiven sin is unbelief, which is damnable rejection of salvation.
-
His death was also to break the curse of the law that contributed nothing but increase the sin of man and showed his weakness and desperation for a savior and usher in the age of grace in which those who repent and stop their sin are regenerated by the power of the Holy spirit and become a new creature -2 corinthians 5:17-
with a new nature, new hearts and new affection that are sin hating and God lovingOne can’t obtain this new nature unless he repents of his old one,
The sin loving God hating one -
Repent means to turn from you sin( stop sinning) confession is you admitting you are wrong and then God can put you on the right course. You cannot make the change until you repent and confess ( confession is also asking God to forgive).
Grace is not cheap it cost more than we could ever pay. God is not mocked you cannot continue is sin and call it grace. -
The reason why you are a Christian is because you have repented from your sins. Repentance is for Unbelievers. Mind you, no scripture is of private interpretation. It amazes me how some Christians still believe they are sinners. This is because they watch movies more often than reading their bibles. The scripture says,” anyone born of the word can not Sin because the seed of God is in him.”
-
To be saved, you must believe in Jesus. Thereby you should believe what He says:
(Luke 13:3) ” I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.”
And there are other places where He says to repent, or says ‘go and sin no more’. -
-
Yes it is a need for us to repent and ask for forgiveness because “forgiveness” is just like a gift that is given to you. If you just accept the gift and you don’t open it what purpose does it serve. So as the “forgiveness” does, if you accept Jesus as your Savior and God then you must repent to be forgiven.
-
Actually Jesus only died for the sins of the elect…
-
He is omnipresent we are not, we live in the present so we ask for forgiveness and repent of our sins.
-
2 Peter 3:9 God doesn’t wish any to perish but all to come to repentance.
-
Justin Downing, Because it’s whe we repent that we receive the forgiveness of sins, Lk 24: 47.
-
Commanded by God
-
Because he redeemed you, He did not become our punching bag for sin. We still need to be righteous on our part & cooperate with His grace.
