“Older women likewise are to be reverent in their behavior, not malicious gossips nor enslaved to much wine, teaching what is good, so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be sensible, pure, workers at home, kind, being subject to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be dishonored.”
Titus 2:3-5 NASB

I think people need to realise that scripture doesn’t cover every single aspect of life, and that we need to use our brains and discernment.
-
Why does this even need backing up biblically!? A household and what you do in that house is private. The question is would you feel less manly if your wife earned a bigger salary than you? Personally it wouldn’t bother me in the slightest. I see it as though God has gifted and blessed her with a good career, and if anything stand back and be proud of her! A lot of men miss out on the vulnerable years where the kids are young and growing, think of yourself as lucky for being able to spend the full day with your kids and watch them grow as a father!

Read the last Chapter of Proverbs thats what a woman should do.
-
Why not?!
-
There’s no scripture against it
-
With COVID, a lot of dad stay home to work. I have to stay home while my wife goes to work. So I do double duty of taking care of the kids while working. It really depends on your situation.
-
Not providing at all for the family is wrong.
Working at home is providing.
Whatever it may be cooking, cleaning, online and etc.. -
What? You said provide scripture. Provide scripture that first says it not ok.
-
It isn’t our job to provide Scripture for why something is right, it is yours to provide Scripture and proper hermeneutical interpretative practices of that Scripture to display why it is wrong? Here’s a hint, do a study of the term oikodomos… it’s a Greek term that loosely means “Dominater of the Home”

Proverbs 31:10-29
[10]Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies.
[11]The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil.
[12]She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
[13]She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
[14]She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
[15]She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
[16]She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
[17]She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
[18]She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
[19]She layeth her hands to the spindle, and her hands hold the distaff.
[20]She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
[21]She is not afraid of the snow for her household: for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
[22]She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
[23]Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
[24]She maketh fine linen, and selleth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
[25]Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
[26]She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
[27]She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
[28]Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
[29]Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. -
I m seriously baffled!!!; the question and some of the answers. Pls be careful not to be like the pharizees; they knew scripture, but they did not know God. They looked Jesus, the long awaited Messiah in the eye, and were too busy using scriptures to recognise Him. What is your motivation?? Condemnation? Love? Is this bringing you or others closer to the Father and His ways???
-
I’m a stay at home Dad and my wife used to work all the time. No scripture necessary. If you’re one of those who requires scripture for every possible scenario that can take place, then you might want re-evaluate a few things.
-
You can flex it in, but while you’re sweating all of these nit picky rules can I ask if you are circumcized?

Infidel –
“But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel.”
1 Timothy 5:8 KJV -
Sure. They are just one already…
-
Do all things unto the Lord giving thanks always.
-
Some of you need to seriously re-evaluate your view of Scripture. Jesus relied heavily on Scripture. Yes, it needs to be supported or refuted by Scripture.
(Psalms 119:105-106) “נ (NUN).Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. {106} I have sworn, and I will perform it, that I will keep thy righteous judgments.” -
Christ is the head of the husband and the husband, the head at home. The Church is not the head of the home. What ever way, based on the individual home circumstances, let the home be governed. Creating issues out of things scripture is silent about create problems. This is how we become busy bodies in other men’s affairs thinking we are counselling.
-
Never forget that there are works also at home. It does not matter who earns the money as long as the couple is happy with their arrangements and the husband should still be the head of his family.
-
If the wife still remains humble and respectful towards her husband, and yes that would work, and that could still be biblical too but roles just reversed.
-
I think it’s situational.
I really do not think people should worry too much about “who is working”
Obviously the goal is to work if you are able to. I’m not implying it’s ok to not work just fir the sake of not working.
But sometimes life throws us curve balls (surprise!)
Dont worry about who says what. Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do.
If for example your wife has an awesome carreer that she worked hard to get and you don’t, Obviously it doesn’t make sense for her to give that up. Especially if you are making less money.
Always remember:
You are a human with a brain.
You are capable of independent thought and reason.
You are capable of making decisions for yourself every once in a while.

As long as someone is providing and caring its not an issue…
1 Timothy 5:8 King James Version (KJV)
8 But if any provide not for his own, and specially for those of his own house, he hath denied the faith, and is worse than an infidel
God bless

My wife’s job is waaaay more important than mine. I can work part time, and she cannot. So until the kids go to school, she’ll be the breadwinner.

An excellent wife who can find? She is far more precious than jewels. The heart of her husband trusts in her, and he will have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life. She seeks wool and flax, and works with willing hands. She is like the ships of the merchant; she brings her food from afar. She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens. She considers a field and buys it; with the fruit of her hands she plants a vineyard. She dresses herself with strength and makes her arms strong. She perceives that her merchandise is profitable. Her lamp does not go out at night. She puts her hands to the distaff, and her hands hold the spindle. She opens her hand to the poor and reaches out her hands to the needy. She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household are clothed in scarlet. She makes bed coverings for herself; her clothing is fine linen and purple. Her husband is known in the gates when he sits among the elders of the land. She makes linen garments and sells them; she delivers sashes to the merchant. Strength and dignity are her clothing, and she laughs at the time to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women have done excellently, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands, and let her works praise her in the gates.
Proverbs 31:10-31 ESV -
By removing the wife from a joint priesthood with her husband and making only the husband responsible for seeking God’s will in all family decisions, those who espouse the unbiblical position of the man as the sole priest in the home, relegate the wife’s participation to a secondary and subordinate position in the home. This dismantles the woman’s equality as joint-heir with her husband and threatens to limit her spiritual growth.
The ultimate goal of every believer is to be conformed to the image of Christ and to grow into a mature “son” of God. All believers are called “sons” of God because all believers are fellow heirs with Christ. Because we are fellow heirs with Christ, all believers are expected to grow to maturity by learning how to make spiritual decisions that conform to biblical principles. Paul said that in the next life we (men and women in the body of Christ) will judge angels (1 Corinthians 6:3) so it is so important that we all learn how to make mature spiritual decisions in this life.
By believing in the faulty doctrine that men are the sole priest in the home, many women have been taught that their husband is spiritually responsible for them. They think that if they love God and follow their husband’s spiritual lead that they will have no responsibility in the decisions made by their husbands. However in two of the best known examples of a husband not making wise spiritual decisions, Adam and Ananias (Acts 5:1), the wife was judged for her actions equally with the husband. There is no example of a husband called to account for his wife’s actions or a wife freed from spiritual responsibility because her husband made the original decision as in the case of Ananias. God did not ask Adam what Eve had done even though Adam was there with Eve during her temptation (Genesis 3:6) and Sapphira was held equally responsible for her acceptance of her husband’s plan to deceive the Holy Spirit (Acts 5:9).
As joint-heirs of Christ and partners in the holy, royal priesthood, husband and wife have equal responsibility to seek God’s will for the family and equal responsibility to work together to preform God’s will in the home. https://strivetoenter.com/wim/2006/11/11/husband-as-the-priest-of-the-home/

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. The woman in proverbs 31 was a hard working woman. If her career pays more and the family 8s better off with her income than his, what would be the issue.

Proverbs 31 is held as the biblical standard for a woman. It clearly presents her as being an entrepreneur and successful in business. The Bible also has examples of men tending the fields and livestock, which presumably would be at home. So I think it’s definitely acceptable scripturally
-
We should look and ask, “Is there any verse against the wife working and the husband staying home?”
-
No.
Gods Word makes it clear.1 Timothy 5:8
“But if someone does not provide for HIS own relatives, and especially the members of HIS household, HE has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.”Proverbs 31:27
“SHE looks after the ways of HER household,
and the bread of idleness SHE will not eat.” -
Complementarian vs egalitarian. Scripture supports both views and neither have anything to do with salvation. Follow your convictions and engage in study of scripture and context in which it was written
-
It’s ok if that happens, but I hope its only seasonal

sounds like roll reversal or a lazy husband all found in this one word —-(Laodicea Rev 3:14-22

Well, biblical protocol says that it is the woman’s job to instruct the children and young women at home…but many of the ancient biblical males were farmers/shepherd types that didnt go off to work away from home other than short excursions to feed and water flocks in the countryside or examine crops and orchards.
We also see that the bible says of good and godly women, that they make blankets, crafts and wares and sell them in the marketplace…proverbs 31 -
I think what is axmore important aspect is Jesus the foundation on your home. I stayed home until my baby started kindergarten. My husband lost his job and I went back to work ad a nurse and he stayed home. When the kids were in high school we both worked. The main thing is your kids are going cared for, bills are psid, there is food on the table and gifts sre given to the church. It is all by God’s hand. I know I did not give scripture but I realky believe it is God who is the provider and we are the earthly vessel.
-
That’s fine.
She still has to submit. And he still has to love her
-
It could be it’s not a sin but it’s not the biblical model . Remember many woman in the Bible howl had to provide to their families and some of the where shepherds too
-
You poor people. Such legalism! This is another reason why people leave religion. It doesn’t make sense to bring 2000 year old cultural practices into our culture today.
-
Biblically, no.
-
What matters is if Jesus is the center of that family and having the fear of God. Other than that, how can that be sinful, when both are one flesh. God bless.
-
IF that is best for the family. Whatever works in a Marriage. Sometimes there are Dads who are better Mothers.
-
What matters is that your husband is still head of household and you are still able to perform your duties as a mother.
-
Please is it scriptural.for us to drink tea and bread in the morning. That’s what we do.

Very soon you people will ask is it scriptural to break fast with fruit.
I am tired.
Cant admin remove unserious people?

God in Creation set forth basic roles, but like so many.other thing we g have a lotof room within which to wiggle and still have a grood conscience tward Good. Also.remember what ir say in Ephesians about submitting to each other in the love of Christ.
-
It may not be biblical, but I doubt if it’s a sin specially if they exerted best efforts.
-
It does not matter.
