Like the old spiritual says , “ you can’t get to heaven in a rocking chair, you rock, and rock, and rock and you stay right there. we cannot earn any of our way to heaven, but, at the same time, we cannot get to heaven without making the effort God ask of us. He wants us to try. He will make allowances for our failures, but he will not reward us unless we make an effort. We must have the heart of Overcomers

Galatians is pretty clear that sons of Abraham (those with a full trust in Gods efforts and not our own) will see Heaven…James’ epistle builds on that and shows us genuine faith is accompanied by works of faith. The syllogism is thus: salvation is entirely of faith, faith produces fruits, thus works demonstrate faith. Notice i didnt say works produce salvation…that would be like saying rain causes tree to grow, healthy trees produce fruit, thus fruit causes rain…..No. In fact if your works are done to earn your salvation and not done out of gratitude to Christ, you blaspheme the work of Christ and He will say, “Depart from me you worker of iniquity I never knew you”. Fruit doesnt cause rain, but faith produces righteousness! Blessed truth, and i hope it can be a freeing truth for you brother.
