Looking for scriptural evidence that supports no longer recognizing the 4th commandment.
I understand the Christ is our sabbath rest, but I’m looking for strong and explicit scriptural evidence for this. Thanks.

I think you mean the 4th commandment. I’m here for the comments on this one. I believe I have entered the rest of the Lord through Messiah, but I also keep a weekly sabbath. So, this discussion should be interesting.

Romans 14 tells us regardless what day you set aside for the Lord, the fact you’re setting one aside is good, and we have the liberty in Christ to do so. Saturday church? Fine by me. Sunday church? Great. Just don’t say I’m going to Hell because I go to church on Sunday instead of Saturday.

This question is funny but people won’t see it so. Every one who is a Sabbath or seventh day Adventist struggle with the purpose of Sabbath. Sabbath is not meant to #gather_and_worship but to #Rest. Sabbath starts from Friday evening sunset to Saturday evening sunset. Every Christian government obeys this rest. In my country unknown to them we have what we call week-end where workers are relieved from work starting by 4pm Friday. To resume work on Monday. Therefore it is only a battle from the wrong Jews creating Sabbath for gathering but not the purpose of Sabbath but to rest from the work . Some will still doubt me because I am not a well known apologetic. God bless..

The question is, what is the purpose of observing the Sabbath? For Some insist this is essential for salvation. This issue is adressed by Paul in Galatians 18-9 , and this is what he wrote about obervebing the law in Galatians 2:6, know that a person is not justified by the works of the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified. And in 3:11, “Clearly no one who relies on the law is justified before God, because “the righteous will live by faith.”
Now in Hebrews 8:13, By calling this covenant “new,”(A) he has made the first one obsolete;(B) and what is obsolete and outdated will soon disappear.
Chirstians now are under new covenant of Jesus Christ John 15:10. Moreover; early beleivers or disciples worship together on the firstday of the week Acts 20:7.

Hebrews 3 and 4 explain that the sabbath was symbolical of God’s rest on entry of the promised land, they didn’t enter due to unbelief so God speaks through David a long time after to prove there is a future rest, the author of hebrews then proves we have entered it through Christ, Christ fulfilled the law so that we could rest from our works in Him, something we do every single day

Yes. To observe the 10 Commandments with no reference to Jesus’ death and resurrection would not make you a Christian.

You won’t find any any scripture abolishing it. The best you can do is use traditional arguments like ‘the day of the Lord’ or ‘first day of the week’ resurrection or gatherings.
Look at all the day of the lord verses. They all refor to the day of judgement. The resurrection day was eventually called the day of the Lord, but there is zero scripture for that.
Then; ‘the first day of the week’ as such doesn’t occur anywhere in the NT Greek. It doesn’t exist as stated. The word ‘first’ was a grammatical twisting of the Greek word for ‘one’. The word ‘day’ simply doesn’t exist in any of these phases. It was added everywhere it occurs. The word ‘week’ is a substitution for ‘sabbath’. The original Greek word ‘sabbaton’ always means sabbath, except when you get to the resurrection verses. Then all of a sudden it means ‘week’…
There always were an official word for ‘week’ and that was ebthomatha. Today ebthomatha still means ‘week’ in Greek. Nothing changed through the ages. It only changed when translators struggled with the resurrection verses..In all of Greek literature ‘week’ will always be ‘ebthomada’, except with the resurrection verses..
The lexicons I looked at says ‘sabbaton’ means sabbath, rest, cessation from work and give Matt 28:1 as reference. Then they say it means ‘week’ and give Matt 28:1 as reference..
With that they means the first ‘sabbaton’ means sabbath as usual and the second ‘sabbaton’ means ‘week’, because its theologically correct – or Christian.. -
The words in Greek is mia ton sabbaton. Go to any or as many secular Greeks you can find and give them these words in isolation – one by one. They will always be translated as ‘one’ and ‘of’ and ‘sabbath’. Then go to a Christian Greek and present the words ‘mia ton sabbaton’ and they will translate it as ‘first day of the week’. Christian Greeks are programmed that way. Then also ask both parties to translate ‘first day of the week’ to Greek and you will get ‘prote hemera tis ebthomada’ – or something spelled similar.

Well I can tell you this. First of all the 4th Commandment is the only one of the 10 Commandments which is no repeated in the New Testament. Second the Church was birthed on the Day of Pentecost which was that day on a Sunday, and Pentecost is always comes on Sunday, which happens to be tomorrow 5/24/2020, and third Acts 19:7 shows us that the very early church begin worshipping on the first day of the week, Sunday, also 1 Corinthians 16:2 as well speaks of the church worshipping on Sunday the first day of the week.

There are no good arguments against the Sabbath Commandment, only excuses. Does it mean we are under the law? No. straw man. We obey Jesus’ commandments because we love Him. Sabbath keeping won’t save you, but willful transgression will damn you.

The sabbath debate is based on false prophetess Ellen G White’s so called visions from God in which she says she saw the 4th commandment somewhat enlarged. -

How exactly does having Jesus as Savior provide our earthly bodies with needed rest unless we observe the Sabbath?

In Genesis God rested from all his work. The 7th, and the rest, both are in reference to the Sabbath . Note it wasn’t evening and morning thus the seventh say…

There seems to be a lot of focus on which day is the actual Sabbath. Saturday or Sunday argument aside, how many actually “keep the Sabbath day Holy?” Many go to church in the morning and then spend the rest of the day working or doing whatever they please. I’ve even seen people answering work emails from a church pew. I think the main thing should be the way you dedicate the entire 24 hour period to the Lord and “rest” from your worldly pursuits, be that business or pleasure. If you feel convicted about which day to do that on, then by all means, adjust your week accordingly; but focusing on the day of the week more than what keeping the Sabbath actually means is already missing the mark before you begin. ??♀️

I don’t believe the Bible does teach or allow us to ignore the 4th commandment. Moses was given the law on tablets, but God Himself gave us the example of resting on the Sabbath in Genesis 2.

Man has been given the opportunity to create his own Sabbath day,as a day dedicated to worship The Lord. It might be a Wednesday, Monday, Tuesday. God was telling man that he needs to a day to rest from his labour and during his rest have fellowship with Him. Keeping a Sunday or Saturday Sabbath does not add you points in the kingdom of God.

We are not under the Law anymore ,but the just should live by faith (in Christ) .Christ is Lord even of the sabbath and if you have Him in you by keeping His temple (your body) holy ,then you should worship Him every second of your life because God created everyday equal as rain ,Sun or snow falls on the day you call sabbath ,it also happen in any other day .

The early Christians considered everyday as Sabbath by meeting up always and doing God’s works. They are no longer in pursuits to the flesh but in spirit and in truth, to enlarge the kingdom of God.

That’s why it’s a commandment. It doesn’t say remember church. It says to remember Him by keeping it holy.

UNPOPULAR OPINION TIME:
God uses some pretty strong “forever” language in the OT about the Sabbath:
Exod.31:14-17
15 Six days shall work be done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day shall be put to death. 16 Therefore the people of Israel shall keep the Sabbath, observing the Sabbath throughout their generations, as a covenant forever. 17 It is a sign forever between me and the people of Israel that in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested and was refreshed.’ ”While we are not Israel, we are grafted in, and Paul warns that what is grafted in may be grafted out.
Further, the burnout rate on new pastors is something like 80%, because they never take a day off. God demands they do, but they somehow think they’re immune to that particular commandment.
I’m well aware of Paul’s language about one day over another. I don’t think Paul was doing away with the Sabbath (can you imagine the arrogance it would take for Paul to overturn Moses when not even Jesus had done that?). I think Paul is telling us to get along with each other and not fight over such things… to let one another be in error for the sake of unity.
