No Shows

10 Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.  _1 Kings 17:10

It is fascinating to me that God had commanded a widow to provide for the prophet Elijah but she didn’t know it!

Can you imagine it?

In the culture of that day, there was no one more marginalized, abandoned, and vulnerable than a widow.  And to compound the problem, she was a single mom trying to raise a child with no job, no support, and no future, except…

There was a special call on her life, a special purpose and plan that she didn’t even know about.

What if Elijah had failed to show up?

As a boy, I remember hearing preachers talk about “Someone holding the key to the service.”  In other words, if they were obedient the worship service would go well, but if they didn’t then, like Jesus at his home church, that person’s disobedience would hinder the work of God in the service.

But here’s a question for you, what if the person holding the key to the service didn’t even show up?

Where do you need to be today?

Maybe you’re tired of the drudgery and routine.

Maybe the last thing you want is to show up one more time.

But…

Maybe it is not just about you and your agenda, maybe its about the people who will be waiting there when you show up.  And if you don’t show up then they will never know the full plan of God for their lives.

The ONE THING for today: Sometimes just showing up is the most important thing you can do.
