Ok guys. I am a soft five point Calvinist. I studied the issues extensively in Seminary. I came to the compatibitist view that our free will and God’s election compliment each other. I don’t want to argue about it. We have more important things to work on. If my being part of the group is not welcome; I will happily leave. I believe that on lesser issues we should be able to agree to disagree.
I am not a Calvinist, but that’s ok. Some of my street preaching friends are Calvinists. The important thing is that we agree on who God is, who Christ is and why we need Him.

Calvinism it is a false teaching, it teaches that God loves some and hates the rest, the Bible does not teach this, Calvinism is dead wrong
I’m a big believer that God chooses in advance those He already knows will choose Him. That’s how I reconcile Gods sovereignty and man’s responsibility. The bible teaches both. I agree with you brother. People ask all the time how they know if they are chosen. It’s as simple as this. If you want to know weather or not you’re chosen, all you have to do is choose Him.

Don’t know you and have nothing against you personally. Regarding Calvinists, I’m in agreement with almost all of their theology (not not necessarily to the full extent). What I find disagreement with is the smarmy self assured bravado they project when interacting with everyone including other believers. I’ve never liked people who act like what comes out of their rectum doesn’t stink. Guess that attitude makes sense when you’re certain God chose you because you were extra special/elect.

B. When you were born, is ther a free will , have you done something when you came out from you mother womb, and being born. every man born of a woman what he did was crying upon his birth and nothing else.

for Christ gave an example that clearly showed how to be born. that is why he relate it during birth in the flesh for i am became the son of my father when my mother concieved me, my birth is only a confirmation that i am his son he personally saw me.

Keith Rockefeller – Couldn’t agree with you more. With an Armenian background, I have come to the same conclusion as you. Both the sovereignty of God and freewill of man plays into salvation. How it all works together is a mystery known only to God. My issue is for those who are the extreme in both ends. If you don’t believe exactly as they, you’re a heretic. That borders on another Gospel and heresy. It’s an arrogance of saying you are equal to or above God in that you have it all figured out.
If you were not a Calvinist going into seminary, do you know specifically what “turned” you?
A great way to state those points and I agree largely….I state it like this. I believe the complete sovereignty and election of God AND man’s responsibility to believe and repent are both equally true at the same time and is not a contradiction, but complementary of each other…..

Thanks for the group Keith. I too would consider myself a soft Calvinist. Out of curiosity what is your view of free will as that is a never ending debate amongst Calvinists and non-Calvinists?

I agree .. Depending on what one means by the misleading term of “free will” thosecwith a monergistic view do not understand the misleading term in the same way .. There is where the true controversy lays … I tend not to use the term because the will is not neutral so not truly free .. even God Himself does not havecthe type of libertarian free will the Arminian posseses .. For even God’s will is subject to His desires .. attributes and character … I believe it is rooted in a misunderstanding of how fallen and tainted by sin the children of Adam truly are .. Its more of an error on original sin and covenantal headship leading to misunderstand orther truths built upon this truth .. The natural man is yruly spiritually dead in sin … Helpless unresponsive to the things of God .. the natural man does not jave the WILL yo answer tje gospel call with faith.

Hey Keith, not a problem with me, love my Calvinist, Arminian and Catholic brothers and sisters in Christ, where we disagree I hope we can do so in the love of Christ. I say that as a Lutheran who did all my Seminary at Evangelical and Baptist institutions
