I am very leery of those who say they received a message from God. That said, let me ask: does the Lord guide or lead us in any way other than His written word. Since He puts His Spirit within us, does the Spirit guide us into His will for us? For example, how does one come to understand that God is calling them to be a missionary, or preacher, etc.?

Yes, the Lord will direct you if you are willing to listen to His still small voice! I have my wife because of it.

I don’t know for sure. On one hand I have experienced first hand what made me believe God was literally guiding me or giving me direction through situationcircumstance. In the Bible God did indeed speak to people through various means.

I believe He does, starting in November I started to have this fealing that there was this heavy darkness hanging over the world. I told my friend and she said to stop being so negative. It’s hard to explain but I new God was telling me something. And here we are now.

God does speak through scripture but also through other people and situations. And certainly in prayer one can be informed by the Holy Spirit

There might be circumstantial situations that are not specifically referenced in scripture in which God will reveal His will through the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit within us. As we begin to pray and seek God’s will, the Holy Spirit will begin to empower us to discern what God is calling us to do. However, The Holy Spirit will never lead us to do things that contradict God’s written word. Just because a person “feels lead” to do something doesn’t mean that it is the Holy Spirit doing the leading. Quite often we will find that the flesh is really behind the compulsions and some folks just attribute those carnal desires to being the will of God because it is satisfying and comforting to their flesh. If we feel like God might be leading us to do one thing or another, the best way to be sure is to go to the Lord in prayer and ask him to reveal or confirm His will with Scripture. Also seek the counsel of your Pastor or other spiritually mature members of your church. ( Proverbs 11:14, Proverbs 15:21-22, Proverbs 24:6).

The Lord has come to me twice both in very specific dreams, 6 years apart. The first dream he brought me to Psalm 37 and the second dream was recently (3 weeks ago) about covid and that was a message. The first dream was very chaotic but His soft still voice was guiding me to understanding and very clear and more than once told me the same thing because I wasn’t ‘hearing’ it but I did not see Him, I heard Him. The second He woke me up, I saw Him and He spoke. The next morning everything was peaceful and calm. AND I checked my FitBit! I was AWAKE between 2:50 and 2:59!!! ? I am very blessed by these dreams! We can always hear Jesus and His divine guidance if we listen and it’s not always like mine so blatant. They could also be thoughts while in prayer and especially moments of clarity during prayer that is backed up biblically.

Disclaimer! This one I back up and zoom out. I look at it in principle of the godhead/trinity and its offerings.
The Word is a living word of truth!
The spirit IS God!
Jesus IS God!
???? Is The Father Almighty Infalliable Righteous Glorious Loving Father in Heaven and here is the punch line-
-he is Greater even than his Word which is Perfect. And he may speak, show, communicate in various ways.It’s difficult not to postpone a testimony of some of the communications I’ve had with him.
Now, that said…
…I have also been present when someone falsely claimed a message was from God.He gave me a packet of information, which would take hours to write, in a split second. On more than one occasion.

God has spoken to me in many different ways: the Bible, a minister, directly, through prophetical dreams, through changing my circumstances and presenting me with opportunities. And miracles!

If the “message from God” disagrees with Scripture it’s not from God. If the “message from God” agrees with Scripture it is unnecessary.

I pray and follow my conscience. God will lead me, guide me and show me the way.

The only thing you can trust is the Word of God and Providence. ‘The secret things belong to the Lord our God but the things revealed belong to us and to our sons forever, that we may observe all the words of this law’ Deut 29:29…..

Direct Revelation from God is the highest method God uses in my opinion.. then there’s the council of many trusted spiritual people for a commissioning style confirmation.. that’s another.. some have used the Gideon fleece method which I don’t necessarily recommend but it is biblically valid.. and then there’s the Davidic method.. either just remain open to the guidance and counsel of God by asking Him straight out and as He sends it to us.. whether by donkey or by prophet like Nathan, or by observation, dreams visions, or biblically based teachings.. I believe that any calling of consequence coming from God on our lives will be confirmed within us by the Holy Spirit, bu bringing peace and not confusion or uncertainty

The test is if it lines up with his Word. I believe revelation is possible, but it will NEVER go against the Bible.

The combination of God’s Word and the Spirit’s leading is the key. We need God’s Word to guide us concerning the spirit that speaks to us (1 John 4) and we need the leadership of God’s Spirit for daily wisdom.

You cant escape whatever he has planned for you .One day at a time. Don’t think to far ahead. Todays trials are enough. Stay in his word seek to understand him well so you can teach others right
