Pastor A.J. Tomlinson arrived in the town of Cleveland, TN,…
Pastor A.J. Tomlinson arrived in the town of Cleveland, TN, on December 8, 1904, to occupy his newly purchased home at 2525 Gaut Street. At the time, he was serving as pastor of congregations at Drygo and Union Grove, Tennessee, as well as Camp Creek, North Carolina. His home became the first headquarters for the congregations that would adopt the name Church of God in 1907. This photo may be from 1913. Tomlinson wrote in his diary on September 4, 1913, “On September 1, Wife and D. W. Haworth presented me with a new desk. I had been using an old board table with an orange crate fixed up for pigeon holes and a few boards put together for shelves. Made the picture of it yesterday.”
