Because Catholicism is rooted in paganism.
-
Also a good way to keep people in line and being faithful to the church since there are things the Catholic Church teaches you that can be done to shave off time in purgatory.
-
Because mot of the have never read the Bible and they just keep believing the false teaching of the Catholic Church
-
Because then your relatives can pay your way “out.” ?
-
Purgatory was invented by the Catholics in the early 12 century. Long after the scrolls, scriptures, and gospels were written.
It’s not biblical and never has been. -
First of all purgatory is not scriptural. Purgatory comes from the Apocryphal books
. -
If purgatory was real, yes it would limit Christ’s sacrifice
-
I can appreciate the concern of it diminishing Christ’s sacrifice but that is not true. In paragraph 1030 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church it says the following – – -All who die in God’s grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven.- – – Does imperfectly purified negate the cross? No. Not anymore than 1 John 1:8-9 saying we should confess our sins who would forgive and cleans. Two respective terms. Also, you do not have to go to Maccabees to see more of an implied reference. – – – 1 Corinthians 3: 12 Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— 13 the work of each builder will become visible, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each has done. 14 If what has been built on the foundation survives, the builder will receive a reward. 15 If the work is burned, the builder will suffer loss; the builder will be saved, but only as through fire.- – How could someone be “saved” that way? In a Protestant understanding if you go through fire in judgment it is hell you are in. And if you are going to heaven then no fire should be there. That only makes sense if there is a purification. But not as a hurdle to the cross but as a fruit of it.

Purgatory is a fraud.
-
But Jesus purifies all sin. We don’t need purgatory. That would mean that Jesus could not atone for ALL sin.
-
The real answer, Catholics believe that the death of Christ at the crucifixion only pays for past sin. When they perform communion they believe that Christ is being sacrificed each time. The communion wafer turns into the literal body of Christ (that’s why they break it on the tongue) and the wine turns into the literal blood. They believe that we play a part in our own salvation and remain in purgatory until sin that were committed before death are paid for.
-
According to the RC, they believed PURGATORY is a place where one suffer for his/her wrong deed but he/she is released from that suffering to heaven when the alive believers pray to God on behalf of him or her.
But, I tell you this is wrong because his/her destination has been decided from their earthly life.
Salvation is by faith but how can one save from hell through others prayer when they don’t put their faith in Christ. It’s a death believed.

John Tetzel money maker…!??
-
What does that mean “when blood of Jesus, cleanses us from all sins.” Blood of Jesus cleanses us from all sins. Purgatory is man created doctrine, doesn’t stand in the light of the Word.
-
Catholism is maybe closer to a pagan religion than Christianity, but don’t be hatin the messenger. ?♂️
-
Purgatory is a heretical hoax. The word says, there is no such thing.
-
i’m so grateful my family is out of romanism. protestantism does not enslave but liberates. thank you sweet Jesus.
-
Saying there is purgatory is saying that Jesus’s sacrifice and resurrection was not enough to save us from sin. Jesus said “I am the way and the truth and the life. And no one goes to the Father except through me.” Not purgatory. Through the Lord. Purgatory is a greedy attack made up by the Catholic Church.
-
Have you missed 1 john 3:1-3? Read it.
Purgatory was not even in the bible i believe. And if it really does exist, ‘IF’, Christ died for nothing because those who didnt accepted Him, if will go to purgatory will be saved. Which is in your doctrine, everyone goes there. It violates what the bible said ‘no one comes to the Father except through Me’ in John 14:6. It should be ‘no one comes to the Father except through purgatory’ if its real. May God forgive me of twisting His words.
Christ is the only answer. And because of Him everything is made pure.
“All is pure to those who are pure. But to those who are corrupt and unbelieving, nothing is pure, but both their minds and consciences are corrupted.”
Timothy 1:15 -
They believe it because of papal fallibility
-
Purgatory is a demonic doctrine of the RCC, why? Because it completely moves the work of Christ in atonement for our sins to the people atoning for theirs without a need of a saviour. This doctrine alone testifies to the nefarious nature of the RCC.
-
Because once upon a time the catholic church thought of ways to raise money.
-
Because they believe the lies of the pope, their priests, and their traditions.
-
After we get saved, we go thru a process of sanctification whereby God purges away all the dross within us. It Takes a lifetime of purging. Purgatory isn’t really a biblical consept but rather an idea of Catholicism. I can see how they View it and it’s very interesting but, not really a biblical idea.
-
“Purgatory” unbiblical and is for people who do not believe that Jesus Christ’s blood is enough to reconcile them to GOD.
-
There is no scriptural basis for purgatory. I think Catholics believe many of the things they do because they simply believe what their priests tells them to believe as opposed to reading and studying the Bible for themselves. It’s kind of like a religious version of socialism. They want everything handed to them, to be responsible for nothing. At least, that’s how I understand it.
-
I have long since try to reason why Catholics believe the way they do? ? Born and raised one, it never totally made sense to me. When I got to finally read and study the Bible for myself, all I could muster from Catholicism was lies, deceptions, twist of words with scriptures and doctrines that make no biblical sense at all.
Purgatory cannot be backed with scripture. It is not in the Bible. It cheapens Jesus death on the cross and resurrection. Just like not believing in hell. Its a scary place to be when you don’t believe what the Bible is very clear about.

People only person can take you out of the the grave is Christ ,He said Lazarus come fort

Purgatory was an invention created in the middle ages along with infant baptism to contend with the trauma of the plague as it struck down thousands of children and infants before the could accept the Holy sacrament of baptism. Grieving families were told that innocents without baptism were sent to an in between after death. This was to allay the fear that they were damned to hell without the chance to accept the lord. Additionally the church change the baptism from an adult sacrament requiring knowledge and forethought to an involuntary infant baptism much for the same reason – to ensure an innocent child’s entry to heaven. The rationale was understanding, but its not Biblical.
-
The evil forces will do anything to keep people away from the perfect & complete work of Christ on the cross !
-
Purgatory is an inbiblical concept. The Bible says after death comes, judgement. The Catholics leaders invented purgatory to make money. After a person dies they said a person goes to purgatory his family had to pay a large sum of money to move him from purgatory into heaven. That’s why they believe in purgatory. Please check out my Apologetics Ministry Facebook group called Defend Him Lynn

If you think of sanctification as a process and one must be completely sanctified to get into heaven because “nothing unclean can enter it“ then purgatory is there because of the sacrifice of Jesus ***no other reason*** to finish the job that the sacrifice of Jesus started in you while you were alive. Everyone who is in purgatory goes to heaven it is not a second chance or an alternative to heaven or hell
-
It doesn’t limit Christ’s sacrifice. Purgatory is corrective and disciplinary only. If it wasn’t for Christ’s sacrifice, no amount of purgatory would ever make a difference.
-
There was no teaching of purgatory in the Bible. Scripture teaches that all believers through faith in Christ obtain (not purgatory, but) eternal life.
-
Catholics write their own Doctrine
-
Catholics wil always try to justify here and there. The fact remains the Catholic Church uses purgatory concept to accept money to pray for the dead to be saved in the afterlife. The only fire mentioned in the Bible is the Holy Spirit fire that tests the WORKS of man on earth, not to purify dead people.
My uncle died never really setting his life straight with the Lord or others, believing he will be saved by family prayers for his soul after he dies. Such extreme deception.

THE ORIGIN OF PURGATORY
There was no mention of Purgatory during the first two centuries of the church. However, when Roman Emperor Theodosius (379-395) decreed that Christianity was to be the official religion of the empire, thousands of pagans flooded into the Church and brought their pagan beliefs and traditions with them. One of those ancient pagan beliefs was a place of purification where souls went to make satisfaction for their sins.
The concept became much more widespread around 600 A.D. due to the fanaticism of Pope Gregory the Great. He developed the doctrine through visions and revelations of a Purgatorial fire. According to the Catholic Encyclopedia (CE), Pope Gregory said Catholics “will expiate their faults by purgatorial flames,” and “the pain [is] more intolerable than any one can suffer in this life.” Centuries later, at the Council of Florence (1431), it was pronounced an infallible dogma. It was later reaffirmed by the Council of Trent (1564).

Because Catholicism teaches false doctrines, why else?

THE BIBLICAL REBUKE OF PURGATORY
God’s Word leaves absolutely no possibility for sin to be purged away by anything other than the blood of Jesus Christ. The beloved apostle John penned these words with irrefutable clarity. He wrote, “The blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin” and “all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:7,9). John did not say “some” sins or “most” sins, but all sin! This soundly rebukes the need for a sin-purging fire. God’s Word also declares, “All things are cleansed with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no forgiveness” (Heb. 9:22). When Jesus “made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high” (Heb. 1:3). Those who desire to have their sins purged need to trust a person, not a place. The blood of Christ is the only cleansing agent for sin! Those who come to the cross of Christ must come with empty hands of faith, bringing nothing but their sins.
Every blood-bought believer is instantly present with their Redeemer at the moment of death. To be “absent from the body” is to be “at home with the Lord” (2 Cor. 5:6-8). This good news was affirmed by the Lord Jesus with the promise He gave to the repentant thief at Calvary. He said to him, “Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise” (Luke 23:43). This habitual sinner did not need a fire to purge his sins.
Catholics who believe in Purgatory need to be asked: “Who is in charge of releasing souls from the purging fire?” It cannot be God because of His promise to believers. “Their sins and iniquities I will remember no more” (Heb. 10:17). After conversion, God no longer counts sins against His children (2 Cor. 5:19).
Purgatory is a travesty on the justice of God and a disgraceful fabrication that robs Christ Jesus of His glory and honor. He alone satisfied divine justice, once and for all, by the perfect and finished sacrifice of Himself. The fatal deception of Purgatory blinds Catholics from the glorious Gospel of grace. It is one of Satan’s many lies which keep his captives from knowing and trusting the sufficiency of Jesus Christ. It is Christ alone that will present us “faultless before the presence of his glory” (Jude 24).

Catholics are idol worshipers who denounce Christs finished work on the Cross
-
-
We need to keep.praying for them to awaken their spirtual senses

Because Catholicism believes the Apocrypha are inspired texts and Catholicism was founded on a mix of paganism and Christian doctrine. Catholicism has never been Christian. Catholicism was founded by Constantine in 312-313AD via the Edict of Milan by merging Babylonian Paganism/Roman Paganism with elements of Christian and non-Christian (Apocrypha) doctrine in order to make the pagan cult more palatable to the masses.
The Mass; The Sacraments; Transubstantiation; Purgatory; The Rosary; Statues in Worship; The Perpetual Virginity of Mary as the Goddess of Heaven; The Idolatry of Mary Worship; calling Catholic Leadership as “Father”; Confessing sin to a Priest; The Magisterium; Indulgences; these are NOT Scriptural and undermine the purity and simplicity of salvation by grace through faith in Jesus Christ as Lord; thereby, leading the innocent millions/billions in the way of deception and hopelessness. http://www.eaec.org/cults/romancatholic.htm

I think the cathlic had some thing here but they put the term purgatory on it
God’s Fire not is not literal.
Cloven tongues of Pentecost turned into the great Lake of fire in Revelations.
When Jesus was Baptized in the River Jordan he got a dove; we christians get fire.
Ps. 104:4 Who maketh his angels spirits: and his ministers a flaming fire.
Baptized you with Holy Spirit and Fire
Isa 48:10
10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction. (KJV)Fire melts spiritual principals until they are pure.
Heb 1:7 And of the angels he saith, Who maketh his angels spirits, and his ministers a flame of fire. (KJV)
Jesus eyes were like a flaming fire; Word of God is a two edged sword/ Flaming sword guarded:
Mal 3:2 But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap: 3. And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness. (KJV)
Isa 9:18. For wickedness burneth as the fire: it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke. 19. Through the wrath of the LORD of hosts is the land darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire: no man shall spare his brother. (KJV)

Purgatory negates it and says his saves sacrifice wasn’t enough
-
Gloria Gloria, Catholics have replaced the blood, sacrifice and death of Jesus, With.
“Baptism, penance, priest remitting sins, works, prayers for the dead, indulgencies and purgatory”.
ALL for,
“Salvation, entering the Church, forgiveness, cleansing, justification and final purification.
There is no such Biblical thing as purgatory. It took the catholics 100s of years to add the erroneous doctrine of purgatory, as a money making scam. -
The Catholic church introduced extra biblical scriptures called the Apocrypha not accepted by the other churches. They also introduced not acceptable practices included in the 99 objections mentioned by Martin Luther when Luther nailed the 99 objections of unacceptable practices to the outside wall of a church. Luther noticed these because he started reading the true scriptures of Romans and others. The lesson here is, Know why you believe what you believe!
-
Catholics believe in purgatory because they are told to. They check their brains at the door and do not read the bible.
-
Purgatory is a man made idea…not biblical.
-
it not only limits His sacrifice, it removes it. The word of God is clear. He is the ONLY way. HIS sacrifice paid the penalty. Once a person is dead, that’s it, they await judgment-Hebrews 9:27
