So this question ha probably been asked a million times…

So this question ha probably been asked a million times but I’m new to the group so I’m going to ask it anyways.
Background:
I’ve been a Christian 5 yrs come 8/28/15. I use 4 study bibles…NASB (John MacArthur), KJV(Thomas Nelson), ESV (Crossway), HCSB and when if needed I’ll go to my NIV (Crossway?) for notes. I’ve been feeling that I’m missing something for study and looking to buy another study bible. I’ve researched a couple of bibles but want a fresh look at what others use if different, maybe something with the Hebrew and Greek.
I have the Strong’s Exhaustive Concordance and a bible dictionary….what say you?

    Save your money, check your motives and heart salvation. Use on line resources instead? What is your goal? Dive deeper into Hermanutics, Systematic Theology, Greek, Life of Christ.
    There are so many directions you can pursue.
    Do you have biographies of Godly men, Read, Eternity in Their Hearts.

    You know i have this bible application called ‘MySword’ bible app
    Its very efficient and has nice interface. It has been my bible, my commentary, my devotional, my greek and hebrew reference, bible historical tool since i first discovered it. And it can and may do more if you download resources for free.

    But you know, what ever translation or application you use, it wont work. The word of God is the message and not the bible. The bible is the physical words of God. But the word of God is Jesus. When we accept Christ, the Lord’s Word will be clear no matter what translation of the bible with the language that we know we will read. But yeah, its more efficient to read what translation we prefer, modern or the most understandable english version, but i suggest you to ask the Holy Spirit to reveal to you Jesus Christ and so every translation would be alive in you.

    I would suggest that you don’t use Bibles that have commentary. I would suggest that you use a Bible that has cross references in it. That will help you immensely and understanding scripture. When Paul cite something from the Old Testament you will immediately be able to go and find it in the Old Testament and understand the understanding he had and that he was transmitting in his message. If you don’t do that you are not getting what he was saying. Of course that goes for other people than Paul I’m just using him as the example.

    You’re probably right that you’re missing something if that’s how you feel. But it’s not in your source material. I’ve grown in faith and knowledge tremendously using one ordinary bible. One bible is enough to receive all the wisdom from God via the Spirit that God wants you to have.

    I can’t tell you what you’re missing, but it’s not another bible.

    My advice to find what’s missing, though, would be to sin as less as possible. When we sin less, our relationship with God grows stronger and we become more in tuned with the Spirit. Love God by obeying Him and obey Him by resisting sin.

    Take a course in hermeneutics and just read your Bible. Nothing replaces knowing the scriptures.

    Remember that the John MacArthur study Bible is Anti Gifts of the Holy Spirit and very Pro Calvinist or Predestination.

    Wycliffe or Geneva. I stay away from study Bibles. They tend to contain a lot of man’s false interpretation of scriptures. Just be careful.

    I’ve been using the Complete Jewish Study Bible. I love it and it gives insight into the Bible from a Messianic Jewish perspective.

    Would you consider a chronological study bible? (i.e one that lists all the events in specific chronological sequence). Might be a good one to add to your collection. I added 1 to mine about a year or so ago. Wife bought it for me.

    Your macarthur is a great go to. I would stay away from niv. You have KJV but maybe a NKJV

    I’d caution against placing too much emphasis on study bibles. The pharisees stacked the opinions of the super pharisees to give credence to their beliefs. Jesus always referred them to scripture. If you are battling as the Spirit to reveal to you. Jesus said He’d lead us into all truth

    I would go to PreceptAustin for it has innumerable insights from greats in past present, and goes over Greek and Hebrew words. Lots of practical application. And so much more. Go to verse by verse at top of site.

    I’m literally surprised at some of the comments here. As what you’re aiming for is a more in-depth study, general study bibles wouldn’t be enough. You’ll need a good commentary for that. Here’s to help you: http://www.bestcommentaries.com

    Brian A Dimond, The Hebrew and Greek study Bible by Strong’s is a good Bible, It’s a KJV which is the most correct translation. It’s by Zodhiates and the publishers is AMG.

    Many times I use my knees. As I kneel to pray earnestly the Holy Ghost reveals his word to me. Remember most Christians of yesterday didn’t have all the resources at hand as we do, so don’t forget to kneel and pray

    I use the Blue Letter Bible App on my phone. It has many bible versions(even Wycliff and Geneva), it has Greek and Hebrew inter linear, Lots of commentaries, and cross referencing for verses. Hope this helps. I have several bibles at home; but BLB has been a real Godsend.

    Get Zodhiates AMG study bible if you want to dig deeper. There are OT and NT versions. He covers Strong but goes well beyond on key words. I have it in hard copy and in my Wordsearch program. A good all around study bible is the NKJV study bible. I am a longtime NKJV fan.

    It seems to me that you have it covered, as far as Bibles.

    Nothing against a good study Bible, but you may be at a point where you’d enjoy in depth study of certain topics.

    For example, studying the parables of Jesus in proper context.

    Don’t get stuck in a rut. I am always reading through the Bible for daily reading but often I’ll be studying something specific as well.

    The other thing I’d say is to find a good group men that you can study with regularly.

    Get Green’s Interlinear Bible. It’s indexed to match Strongs and it is the best way to study and learn. God bless you as you journey!

    To study the Greek and Hebrew is not a bad thing. You will learn more while serving and evangelizing than you will sitting and reading. That’s my 2 cents based on experience.

    Try learning the Bible for yourself. Take a look at “Living by the Book” by Hendricks (Amazon). It will teach how to be a detective when studying the Bible, but make sure you pray much to understand it.
