cluttered silence

sits around the room
staring
breathlessly
stealing
my soul
from within my body
endlessly
raging
against
my mind
like an angry dictator

Revelation 4:11   Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created. God did not need to create you; He chose to create you. You were created by God’s choice for the work of His purpose. One […]

Philippians 2:19-23 19 But I trust in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you shortly, that I also may be encouraged when I know your state. 20 For I have no one like-minded, who will sincerely care for your state. 21 For all seek their own, not the things which are of Christ Jesus. […]

Dear neighbor,
The incessant barking of your dog
kept me awake last night.
I laid (or is it lied? Even as an English teacher,
I still confuse the two.) there, for hours,
thinking of how lucky we are
to have a dog keeping us all so safe
at night. I mean, who would even think
of robbing one of our homes with such
a savage beast on the loose out there?
I envisioned him (All dogs are boys, right?)
chasing after a would-be assailant,
and tearing him (I’m assuming most robbers
are men, too.) limb from limb.
And so, I wrote you this note to say thanks.
Thank you for allowing your dog
to BARK INCESSANTLY FOR
EIGHT FLIPPING HOURS LAST NIGHT.
I’m sure we’re all safer because of it.

Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” | Ian Maclaren

I’m so tired
that I can’t even remember what day it is.
Maybe Friday,
or Monday.
I don’t know.
I walk into a local Walgreens
to buy a few items for my wife
who is at home recovering from surgery.
A nice lady shields her child,
giving him a look that pleads:
“Please don’t become a drug head like
that man over there!”
I just need some coffee, ma’am.
And a few hours of sleep.
And for the test results
to come back
saying my wife,

the love of my life,
is cancer-free.
