Church of God General Overseer Ray H. Hughes was born in Calhoun GA on March 7, 1924. Always considering his call to be that of an evangelist, in 1942 he preached an 18 week revival that resulted in planting the Church of God in Fairfield, IL.

In the late 1950s, Dr. Ray H. Hughes, Sr was the speaker for Forward in Faith, the national radio program for the Church of God (Cleveland, TN).
